This an excerpt from my review...craigamore reviews Prometheus - I LIKED, but DID NOT love this film....SPOILERS. I wanted to repost it as a particular thread concerning my feelings on what occured with the affect of the trailers and especially the music that accompanied them: "From as far back as Thanksgiving, with the leak of the original teaser trailer, following through to March and the release four other trailers as well as several featurettes, we were, as an audience, sold a film with an emotional aesthetic that harkened back to the terrifying, skin crawling, ominous horror of Alien by way of trailer music that was beautifully conceived, recorded and edited alongside visuals meant to excite and unsettle. The score of the actual film carried with it an emotional aesthetic of an entirely different kind, one of awe, grandeur and romanticism that none of us were prepared for given the nature of the trailer campaign. Emotionally, tonally, aesthetically, we as an audience were set up for an experience we were not to have. I think that element alone hurt Prometheus' reception tremendously."

I tend to agree with you on all of your points. We were sold "Alien 0.5" (or Alien 2%) in the catalog, got the package and received "Alien 0.1" (Alien Skim). ...and we'd bought all those cookies to dip... Thankfully, the "awe, grandeur and romanticism" added a bit of chocolate flavoring so, in the end, it was still enjoyable....just not what we thought we were ordering.

I felt there was continuity between the modern ad and the actual film. I was not disappointed, and I think you're way off in this regard.

I know. It was like getting a table at a fine restaurant that has a six month waiting list only to discover the meal was cooked by microwave. I did feel cheated. It was a good movie but certainly wasn't the second comming it portrayed itself to be.

I got the same feeling. I was expecting a 'Horror Movie' and got an 'Action Movie with an Edge' instead. So, not completely disappointed, but a little disappointed. I am enjoying all of the implications the movie raised, so that's a bonus.
