Hi, I'm a big fan of a Polish writer of s-f, Stanislaw Lem. Do you know that in his books, Solaris (1961) and Return from the Stars (1961), appears a space ship called ... Prometheus:)

I read Solaris long time ago and to be honest I completely forgot about spaceship called Prometheus. Anyway, its just a name of spaceship by which the main character, Kris Kelvin, arrived from Earth to the space station studying the planet Solaris. From Wikipedia: Solaris is a 1961 Polish science fiction novel by Stanisław Lem. It is about the ultimate inadequacy of communication between human and non-human species. Solaris is one of Lem’s philosophic explorations of man’s anthropomorphic limitations.

Interesting, I'll have to have a look out for this book. As an extra bit of info I noticed the other day a movie called 'Hunter Prey' on netflix and the ship is called 'Prometheuss' A short description for it reads "When the spaceship Prometheuss crash-lands on a barren planet, the crew must hunt down their dangerous cargo -- a lethal alien prisoner" Not sure if its worth watching though

I strongly recommend book 'Solaris'. It's deep, dark and tells a lot about us, human beings.

Stanislaw Lem's work has been ripped off very often by Hollywood, most notoriously by James Cameron in The Abyss (remember when the ocean mimicked the shape of anything that was in front of it?... well, that's from Solaris. And I don't know why, but I have the feeling that the writers of Prometheus might have borrowed a bunch of ideas from other of Lem's works. I vaguely remember the descriptions of an alien storm-like phenomena much like the one featured on the Prometheus trailer in "The Invincible", a novel about the multidisciplinary crew of a starship on a doomed mission to another planet; "The Invincible" was the name of the ship. And I am currently reading "His Master's Voice", another novel that boasts enough ideas for a dozen of sci-fi movies.
