Prometheus vs Avatar

Avatar is great movie, but I just prefer Prometheus universe and its genre a bit more:)
If question was, which director is better, Ridley or Cameron, I wouldn't have any doubts at all. For me Ridley!

Avatar : emo teen movie loaded with CGI.
Prometheus: fast, different concept and good CGI movie.
Honestly i am going to ignore any new sequel movies of the following
avatar
spiderman
ghost rider
wolverine
iron man
aliens 4, 5, 6 etc.
predator vs alien 3,4,5 etc.
Uncertainty is the only certainty there is, and knowing how to live with insecurity is the only security.

I'll put it this way, "I'm a real fan of both, for their own nuances."
:)
2013 sci-fi horror novels 'Custodian' and 'Tandem' available from Amazon, B&N, iTunes etc...

The Prometheus universe is more compelling than that of Avatar (and certainly more believable and less cartoony).
I'd hate to say it, but Avatar has Prometheus beat in terms of story. This is even with Avatar's 2 dimensional characters and simple plot. At least Avatar has a complete plot with 3 Acts.
Prometheus has illogical characters who don't behave like humans. The plot is all setup and no payoff. I know people talk about "leaving questions unanswered", but Prometheus never addresses its questions in a sophisticated way. For example, Blade Runner's question "Do replicants have a soul?" is indirectly answered--and answered beautifully in the Final Cut--by the end of the movie. Prometheus just feels like random scenes strung together in a sequence.

I have room in my "I can't bloody get enough SCi FI movies in my life time"
for all comers... silly, forgettable, terrible, popcorn fun, OMG great, and finally...Alien.

I found Avatar to be an amazing film from a technical standpoint but the plot was far too simplistic and overt. You just didn't have to think. But, I guess that wasn't his goal.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the film and what Cameron did with it but Prometheus was thought provoking.

I'm not going to ignore Avatar 2. I'm really curious what James is going to do with next part.
I agree with Xenotron about Avatar plot. Everything in Cameron's epic works perfectly. The thing with Avatar is that itz running time is nearly 3 hours long when Prometheus will have something like 140 minutes (120 minutes + 20 minutes in extended edition). That makes huge difference. I don't understand why Fox didn't release longer version at the beginning.

AVATAR --> born on the 4th of July + An Inconvenient Truth + The Smurfs
---------
PROMETEHEUS --> Alien + 2001 + Lawrence of Arabia + Blade Runner

Avatar better characters, story and CG. Prometheus connection to Alien is what helps it from sinking.

As a successfuly executed story, from beginning to end, Avatar hands down.
Actors and characters were about even. No, the Prometheus characters were a bit more stupid. The Avatar characters were a bit more preachy regarding contemporary politics. Both were cartoons.
Avatar's action sequences win easily.
Wish I could say Prometheus has a more interesting darker vision. But it was an uninteresting dark vision.

My opinion...
Prometheus isn't as good as Alien and Aliens, but it's much better than Avatar and plenty of movies with higher IMDB score (eg. Inception is highly overrated).
Opinions vary...

Well yeah they are hard to compare, but if you insist.
Avatar hands down, not only because the obvious it had a start, middle and end story, but the character building was good.
I actually felt sorry for the poor smurfs when their big tree got blown to pieces, and when some good humans died.
Prometheus I loved the look, the feel, but that's all it gave me.
It made me feel like a wound up spring ready to pounce out of my chair, but it never happend, it didn't get any better than just a feel.
I'll always remember in the cinema when watching Alien when Captain Dallas died, I was ready to jump out of my seat and scream at the screen saying THE HERO CAN'T DIE!!!!
When someone died in Prometheus, it was like meh I don't care.
