MemberOvomorphFeb-25-2012 2:35 PMSorry if this has been discussed to death already but: In one of the official movie stills released by Fox there is an image of two of the female Prometheus crew members crouching over the helmet of a space jockey. They are studying it with their flashlights as David continues on into the Big Head room with the ampules on the floor. To the lower, right-hand side of the still, one can see the rest of the space jockey lying on its back. Now in the trailer we have seen the SJ helmet being scanned by David and Shaw back in the Prometheus. My question is: what about the rest of the suit? Was that brought back for analysis? More importantly, how did the SJ die just outside of the Big Head/ampule room? To me this mirrors the scene in Alien where Dallas, Lambert and Kane discover the dead space jockey in its navigation chair. Thoughts?

MemberOvomorphFeb-25-2012 5:43 PMYou've done your homework GreatBoosUp. Yes, that is an SJ. I don't think we'll know if the whole suit was brought back. As you said, what caused this SJ to die? The head is some distance from the rest of the body / suit, so unless it rolled downhill with decay, I think the SJ had a 'bad encounter' with the creatures we haven't seen yet...IMO...

MemberOvomorphFeb-25-2012 7:28 PMHello. This is my first post. I looked at the pic of the dead space jockey on the ground and made a comparison to the one in the chair in the Alien film by looking at google images of the Alien scene where they are around him. In the pic the poster is describing above, this jockey's body and it's head seems smaller compared with the humans inspecting the head where as the jockey was much larger in it's ratio size to humans (Dallas) inspecting him in Alien. It's obvious when we see the head being scanned in the Prometheus trailer that it's smaller. Anyone notice this? Maybe he was a juvenile space jockey. I also zoomed in to 400% looking at the jockey's body on the ground and it's clear his arm has been severed right at the bicep.

MemberOvomorphFeb-25-2012 7:38 PMWelcome to the site shilliam yes the jockey is smaller i think but since we know little about the prometheus film its hard to say if its the same one as the original alien film i guess time will tell sorry i cant enlighten you anymore maybe other members can.

MemberOvomorphFeb-25-2012 7:45 PMi would take a wild guess and say it is not the same since its a prequel to alien, the sequel i assume is alien, therefore the sj in that was intact so no its not the same jockey.

MemberOvomorphFeb-25-2012 8:28 PMThere is the possibility that the giant head and the cylinder vials are all from the original derelict its just that the nostromo crew had little time to investigate the entire ship due to the fact kane was in mortal peril so it could well be inside the same vessel.
just more wild speculation but a possible theory.

you know all this talk about the jockeys engineering the xenos..maybe they just fall prey to them just like the humans by stumbling across them

Yeah, i agree with you there, or at least it would be a good twist for the story. To find out that the jockeys didnt create the xenos, but found em and fell afoul of them while trying to use them as a weapon. Just the same as those silly humans :P.
The film could then leave us with another cliff hanger even worse than the space jockey issue in the first alien.

MemberOvomorphFeb-26-2012 6:38 AMOk, bear with me here...
The first point here is that the expedition did not expect to find any of the stuff that we relate with the SJs (the SJs themselves and the 'gigerish' architecture). What they did expect to see is a civilisation much like our own. This is apparent from what Scott has said, the saucer in the trailer (that somehow leaves a clue to their homeworld on Earth) and the different architecture seen in some of the media which is more akin to Ancient Earth cultures. The Ampule room is buried inside that rock structure, it is rougly egg shaped and has a door at either end which means is can be sealed off from the atmosphere outside (which we know is not compatible with humans and presumably SJs). The expedition enter the Ampule room from the door behind the Head Monolith and explore, whilst David investigates the Ampules Mudow and Shaw venture to the far door where they find the SJ's head. Whilst inspecting it the door opens upwards (in one of the first look teasers you can see Shaw startled by the blast of steam/gas as it opens) revelaing the body of the SJ outside the Ampule room but inside the outer (large stone) door. It looks as though the SJ was decapitated by the steel door suddenly sliding shut.
As to why they did not bring back the whole body - Something happens to one or more of the expedition which means they have to leave in a hurry, we know that something happens to Holloway don't we? The SJ body is huge but Shaw puts the head in a bag when they exit the structure. I have a feeling that Shaw is the last one out of there and is probably the driver of the last buggy, she possibly drops the head on the loading ramp, goes back to collect it and then gets blown away by the storm/explosion.

MemberOvomorphFeb-26-2012 7:01 AMShoot me down if you like but i`m convinced were looking at a xeno here, it looks the same as one.what we see lying on the floor with missing head looks nothing like the image of sj on right of chair room in trailer image.Maybee the sj and xeno are actually the same entity .

MemberOvomorphFeb-27-2012 2:51 AMAlso folks, is it me, or is the right arm also missing from the 'suit-on-the-floor' too?

Biomechanic
MemberOvomorphFeb-27-2012 2:58 AMSo I was thinking this poor Jockey was an ampule technician and was surprised by the human intruders while handling an open canister. He makes an aggressive move and one of the crew freaks out and uses some kind of archeological laser cutting tool and cutoff his arm and head in self defense.
