MemberOvomorphFeb-29-2012 1:45 PMYou get more than a few hints of the movie's plot under IMDB PROMETHEUS Parent's Guide listing. As always, take it with a grain of salt
"Since the film deals with theological themes such as mankind's origin, religious beliefs conflicting science theories, loss of faith, transhumanism and posthumanism, religious audiences could find highly disturbing or even blasphemous some of the concepts dealt in Prometheus."
Transhumanism & posthumanism. This may be more BLADE RUNNER than ALIEN, folks
"A woman is shown suffering from injuries due being expose to an unknown pathogen. She dies in a matter of minutes."
Katie Dickie character? Most likely.
"A raging man violently attacks another man."
This should be the Mohawk Guy going berserk from the Teaser.
"An almost naked woman is shown doing push-ups"
Nuff said. I told ya it's gonna be the Summer of Theron.

MemberOvomorphFeb-29-2012 2:07 PM"A raging man violently attacks another man." lol Well of course there's going to be violence in this movie. What did anyone expect?
And of course, some of the religious stuff catches my interest. I never did mention that I'm a Presbyterian Christian. Doesn't mean I'm close-minded or a zealot, of course. I'd think that transhumanism & posthumanism have sort of a role in Christianity, if you take into account the recently-oversimplified statements of eternal life after death (becoming an angel when your body dies, that sort of thing). But I can slightly understand people being freaked out over the revelation that that which we know as God is just, in fact, some gigantic alien with an elephant nose (real-life equivalent being that God could just in fact be a little grey alien). Nonetheless, it's a movie, and here's to hoping that it doesn't start an unwanted uproar all because of what it is.

MemberOvomorphFeb-29-2012 3:11 PMTranshumanism, abbreviated as H+ or h+, is an international intellectual and cultural movement that affirms the possibility and desirability of fundamentally transforming the human condition by developing and making widely available technologies to eliminate aging and to greatly enhance human intellectual, physical, and psychological capacities.

MemberOvomorphFeb-29-2012 5:49 PMI think the IMDB PROMETHEUS Parent's Guide list is just based on the trailer and not the complete film.

MemberOvomorphFeb-29-2012 10:48 PMYou all realise that if this film is considered blasphemous and controversial
it will up the publicity ante enormously? Not a bad thing in my opinion in this
excrutiating age of stale n' safe/stupid.

MemberOvomorphFeb-29-2012 11:12 PMThat's uncalled for @20thcenturybuick......personal attacks are not tolerated here and I must say I take personal offense to a statement like that...you can disagree with a persons beliefs and still argue fairly and respectfully...watch it, because I'll be watching you......

Where in the trailer there is a single hint of android concept?
Anyone unfamiliar with ALIEN franchise would think PROMETHEUS is CONTAGION in Outer Space after watching the Teaser.

MemberOvomorphMar-01-2012 8:01 AMYes, IMDB's parental guide only covers the trailer images... not the whole movie.

Here is what was said that I noticed was wrong in it's intent.

Ok it's ill intended but it is NOT a Personal attack per sey in that he mentioned no one by name and is responding to his disdain for the ill be gotten tendencies of "Religious Zealotism" if you will.
Now as a fellow staff member I do not wish to undermine your authority in any way but I DO think telling some one to "Watch it cause I am watching you" is a little harsh here. And is making it personal in and of itself. So how but weall agree to talk about this wiht a little more respect for eachother and less drama?

Ah yes, but that's based on Eastern theosophical beliefs. For us in the West, this is about as close as we get to His physical manifestation. Though if you stop and think about it, the Abrahamic faiths have some commonality with Dharmic beliefs; it's just that the Abrahamic beliefs tend to oversimplify some concepts, and of course there aren't too many depictions of deity-like entities as there are in the Dharmic beliefs (there is no true physical image of God, because He just is).

One medium of transhumanism and posthumanism I learned about years back is the ability to digitize yourself. Such a technique is far off at this point in time in real-life, but digitizing yourself could tie in with androids in this movie, no?

MemberOvomorphMar-01-2012 7:08 PMI was always under the impression that the world is made of syntax and language and collective consciousness. we all project elements of our own imagination out into the ether and like bubbles colliding we experience the world that way. Each bubble represents an individuals point of view and unconscious projection and these bubbles constantly integrate and separate .
In my humble and personal journey i deduce we are all gods thou not omnipotent we are eternal and we have the ability to experience the world, the universe, and everything in the space between all contained within your own mind .
The eternal question am i in the world ? or is the world in me ? the answer i believe is both.

MemberOvomorphMar-01-2012 11:40 PM@CrazyDave55811...Hmmm interesting point i didnt seem to catch that one. So would it be similar to TRON (for lack of a better example right now haha) or they create a copy of themselves out of data?

Well, to tell you the truth, the concept of digitizing yourself was something I derived from The Patriots in the Metal Gear Solid series. The Patriots are an extremely-advanced network of AI's that secretly rule the United States & pretty much the whole world from behind the scenes. They would eventually be able to control every man, woman, and child through the use of a nanomachine network called SOP (though this plot is eventually thwarted, not to mention that The Patriots have been destroyed in MGS4).
The real shocker, for me, was near the end of MGS2, when The Patriots were speaking to the main character. Honestly, it felt like a human was talking, not a machine, yet in truth it was an entity without shape or form, a neural network designed to be "norms", rules with which to govern the world, inspired by an interpretation (or misinterpretation, really) of "the will" of a legendary soldier known as The Boss.
A lesser example I can come up with is an episode of Batman Beyond, when some ex-CEO lives on as an AI.....but I forget how that all goes.
As for Tron........well, dare I say it, but I still need to see that movie some time.
