the blinking star from the Weyland Industries website corresponds to the famous "WOW" signal.
On August 15th, 1977, such a signal was received at the Big Ear radio observatory in Ohio, though the ensuing drama was considerably more subdued. The volunteer who spotted the pattern on the paper logs circled the data and wrote “Wow!” in the margin. The signal came from the direction of the constellation Sagittarius, and lasted seventy-two seconds at about 1420.456 MHz before it faded away.
What if Weyland has intrest in the WOW signal and the Sagittarius constellation for the FTL (Faster Than Light Travel) we've been hearing about. Sagittarius A is a complex radio source located in the milky way it contains a super massive black hole. This "worm hole" could be used for travel as well as a means of sending messages long distances faster.
What if Weyland Industries uses this for their FTL or perhaps the Jockeys use wormholes for their space travel more likely. Anyways, just some thoughts.

MemberOvomorphMar-10-2012 3:51 AMWormhole 'travel' would sidestep all the hard science doubts I've read about
FLT travel being attained in the time period that this film is set in.
Call me whimsical, but I think that would be wormhole discoveries could possibly be
harnessed in the next 70+ years and would be convenient and somewhat mystical
- but still sci-fi, lol.

MemberOvomorphMar-10-2012 3:55 AMThat 'Wow' signal sends shivers down my spine evertime I hear
about it and I only became aware of this in the last 10 years or
so. Very eerie. It calls to mind allsorts of wondrous possibilities out there
in the Universe and makes good sci-fi all the more believable now.
