MemberOvomorphMar-10-2012 9:08 AMHi everyone. Long time lurker, first time poster here.
I've started this thread to pay homage to Jean Giraud, aka the french artist Moebius, who died today, aged 73.
Among other (brilliant) stuff, he designed the space suits from "Alien"...

MemberOvomorphMar-10-2012 12:33 PMThat's such bad news. I was watching a documentary yesterday called Other worlds .
Its about Ayahuasca and ancient traditions, but had a great interview with moebius in it. He described a mushroom experience and how it took him a lifetime to assimilate it into his art .
The film/ doc is by a french director called jan kounen who made a psychedelic film called Renegade / blueberry, ..an adaptation of a comic book also known as the psychedelic cowboy.
his work was an inspiration to so many including ridley who has cited him for alien, and heavy metal, where his work was brought to the attention of many fans.

MemberOvomorphMar-12-2012 3:51 AMThat's sad news. Has anybody seen the documentary 'Moebius Redux - A Life in
Pictures' on BBC Four? Excellent programme.
I've familiarised myself with his imagery over the past 30+ years through
'Heavy Metal' magazine issues courtesy of the info in the 'Book of Alien'.
HM was and still is a superb and visionary source of inspiration for me too
as an artist. The content within is how great sci-fi should be depicted.
R.I.P. Moebius - he's keeping that other great futurist company now -
Dan O'Bannon.
