MemberOvomorphMar-16-2012 11:39 AMThe whole premise of the film is that a team of scientist go searching for some origin of man. Their expecatations are this mission is deemed "safe" and, the notion of the evolutionary process of sophistication in intelligence and organism evolution is positive progress. Hey, it's what we all would think because it's all we know as humans.
I would put forth that the above ideals is the premise of what is "wrong", and this is where the big "what if" comes into play:
What if humans are created by the Space Jockey as an ideal cattle for the original aliens.
What if there's something more sinster about the Space Jockey. There's an evolutionary arms race in the universe of the strongest survive. The Space Jockey is not evil but it's just following the dictum of how nature advances. From the Space Jocky point of view we're just ants in technology/evolution.

MemberOvomorphMar-16-2012 12:42 PMMe likey a lot! I hate to sound like a immoral deviant. But after seeing ALIEN, the idea of the SJ being indifferent to any species or life form sounds like a capital idea. The "we come in peace" concept is nice and all, but if a outside culture requires another's resource, there will be trade, or conflict. Now if the idea is that humans are like insects to the SJs, then our trespassing will be dealt with by extermination.

That means the prometheus crew actually did something wrong that may lead to the end of the human race (stealing or activating something). So I disagree with the "What if humans are created by the Space Jockey as an ideal cattle for the original aliens." statement.
Maybe they do something that can endanger/kill the sj himself, the human race depending on him/them somehow, it will be a catastrophy for us (are they contamining the sj with a xeno when they enter the derelict? either by getting infected themselves before in the temple, or by releasing it, or by "creating" it by mixing dnas? etc...).
Or more simply, by stealing that blue thing (sort of essence of life) in the temple, they provoke the wrath of the sj and have him/them want to wipe out all of us (maybe by infecting the crew with xeno and send them back on earth). Obviously that didn't work as we see the derelict crash and of course the following alien movies (I know this is not a prequel, but well...;)

MemberOvomorphMar-16-2012 1:36 PMThe idea that the SJ is anything but a Intergalactic Railroad Baron would be questionable. Advance technology breeds contempt of others, just look at us and the recent wars we have involved ourselves in. I see the movie starting out all "starry-eyes" and ending with a scream...

I see where you are pointing in your last sentence there.
But ignore for a moment the fact that we recognize the SJ in the trailer, and that you and I know this is a movie tied (however tangentally or not) to ALIEN.
Is there anything or anyone in the trailers so far (except for a line or two by Shaw) to suggest that the outlook or intentions of these explorers is at all altruistic or starry-eyed?
I'm interested in how the movie will play against our presumed EXPECTATION that the motivations of "The Company" (As WT was referred to in ALIEN) are less than admirable.
(Ex: Ash's comment about "dillusions" of morality.)
I wonder if the average movie-goer is expecting some vague, mysterious even intense shocks and that all us insiders or fanboys (Sorry, I hate that word) are expecting shocks to be on top of (and surpassing) the bad behavior we EXPECT from the company.
What say...?

MemberOvomorphMar-16-2012 2:49 PMLike all explorers, the beginning of any journey is always full of hope; hope of answers to questions lost to time, hope of gaining insight to the mysteries of the unknown, and finally hope of surviving the journey it's self. Corporations are fueled by greed, and energized by new technologies... no they are starry-eyed for the wrong reasons, and those reasons will burst from their chest in due course.
