MemberOvomorphMar-19-2012 1:26 AMAmazed that everybody here has missed this,
The opening shot of the new trailer is quite obviously David, infected by the SJ virus.
Hence, he is outside without a space suit.
What could this mean ? An Android infected, mutating into an SJ ?
There were rumors about David mutating to have red blood, ie. become human.
But this looks like more than that... ie. A sequel...

MemberOvomorphMar-19-2012 1:36 AMOr, it could be the Engineer in ancient Earth's past creating life in the primordial waters.
Remember set reports how Ridley went to Iceland to film "the beginning of time"?

MemberOvomorphMar-19-2012 1:52 AMI would still argue that it's probably the opening scene. You probably don't see much; probably just the back of his head and his hand.
Yes, there does seem to be something going on with David. It's very possible that he may turn into a form of Engineer, or at the very least, help the Engineers in some way.
Who is the guy that's standing over a very freaked out Shaw in the smoky hallway in the trailer? Is it an Engineer? David? Or maybe something else?

True, True ! I like it...
But there is definitely something going on with David, the whole "small things" comments.
Also I can't see Ridley showing us the unmasked space jockey at the beginning of the film, it would destroy any mystery...
I think it's David, mutating into a hybrid Cyborg / Space Jockey. A new lifeform ! (Cyber-Jockey?). Later picked up by Weyland ??

"Who is the guy that's standing over a very freaked out Shaw"
My guess would be the mohawk guy, fully mutated into an SJ. Since he seems to be stalking and attacking the crew. Maybe he spares her because she is carrying a proto-face hugger, or maybe he is about to impregnate her...

MemberOvomorphMar-19-2012 2:08 AMPlease don't take this offensively, but I'm 80% sure that's 100% incorrect.

latinhypercube
MemberOvomorphMar-19-2012 2:16 AMProve it then !
Shaw definitely gets impregnated by an infected crew member, then has the thing removed (my guess = proto facehugger, which then attacks someone else...).
So that could be the scene.
Anyway, this is not the point of the thread I started, which is that it is David in the first shot, not some ancient ape-man !!!

MemberOvomorphMar-19-2012 2:26 AMIf it's David, then why would he be telling Vickers or whoever he is talking to that the ship plans on returning to earth? He seemed concerned.

MemberOvomorphMar-19-2012 2:29 AMNice tactic! That's called "shifting the burden of proof". Unfortunately, it's impossible to prove the non-existance of something.
First, ok, jump in my DeLorean and come with me to June 8th, 2012.
Second, Shaw probably has something extracted, but we don't know what or who is responsible. And we certainly don't know what she had extracted.
Third, how would the last shot of David becoming an Engineer be the end of the movie? If that were the case, how did he get off the planet and where did all that water come from? If that were the case, what does that have to do with the rest of the story and why should we care? Why would they shoot a "beginning of time" scene in Iceland?
I'm sorry, my friend, but the odds are stacked against your specific and unproven theory.
You don't know any of this stuff any more than anyone else.

MemberOvomorphMar-19-2012 3:16 AMI agree with hypercube that David becomes one of the SJ's. Why? Because It adds to the mythology of Prometheus: a race of engineers/titans who create life and other worlds -- who even after their inevitable extinction may become resurrected via their DNA infecting other potential colonizing species (i.e. humans). The irony will be David becoming a GOD and fulfilling a more chilling realization about sentient beings and the progress which their civilizations create. The questions we're left to ponder regard the nature of progress and creation -- and the recursive relationship between creation and destruction...And yes, I'm also drunk.

MemberOvomorphMar-19-2012 4:31 AMAlso, the last shot "big things have small beginnings" is where I think David sees blood on his finger. Not the milk blood of an android, ie. He is changing...

MemberOvomorphMar-19-2012 4:37 AMlatinhypercube,
yes, probably his DNA is already altered like he is a living experiment.
@ beginning scene
I´m quite sure that is a beginning shot of the movie, in an ancient world, where the SJ already have their reign. It seems that their DNA is somehow damaged, so they spread their seed into other worlds, ergo ancient astronaut.
Ridley placed this footage extra in iceland, so this must be different from other locations/ time.

I get your point. You are probably right, but I just don't think Ridley would start the movie by showing a humanoid SJ. It spoils the surprise (that they are humanoid). Also, it was shot in Iceland, but it may not be portrayed as Iceland. I'm sure all the alien world stuff was also shot in Iceland, but it is meant to be an alien world.
The water and the ufo, could be the SJ temple switching on it's terraforming...
Love to hear everyone's thoughts, and I am not professing I know the 'truth' or anything...
Also, it doesn't break what Ridley said. The shot is the start of new life...

MemberOvomorphMar-19-2012 4:49 AMThere is of course no real proof yet that David become the SJs ( and in general we cant be 100% sure that the SJs is a mutated human ) ...lets say is a three people race ...him .. the mohawk guy ( i think not because is a secondary actor ) ..and expecially Halloway ( hes surely infected and hes very probably the cause of shaw's baby )

latinhypercube
MemberOvomorphMar-19-2012 4:58 AMAnother reason why I don't like the idea of the SJ's infecting early Earth, is...
If there is already an infected SJ on Earth, what is the point in leaving cave paintings, or even waiting for human's to reach the SJ planet ?
ie. If the SJ's infect (all) humans, their job is already done.

MemberOvomorphMar-19-2012 11:23 AMNone of the shots in the trailer come from the end of the film because the cutters didn't have access to the last 10 minutes.
David magically turning into a robo-jockey just sounds hokey.
