I'm surprised no one mentioned this frame from the Russian featurette, since it is quite obviously the most important... Is it David's blood and hence his transformation into living lifeform, or SJ biomechanical black liquid ?

There's nothing obvious at all about that...we don't know yet that it's his blood...we never see him prick his finger...it could be fluid from the ampule....you could be absoulteyl right or absolutely wrong......therte just isn't enough for it to be obvioud is all...

We don't know for a fact that David or anyone else transforms into an SJ. Unless the SJs were waiting on humans to come up with synthetics, cuz it only works with them.........but IMO, that would be waaaaaay too close to George Carlin's take on why 'Gaia' had to come up with us. She wanted........plastic.

@latinhypercube This image is the only image I've seen from the footage you're talking about. And since I believe that David is what this film is all about, I'd have to agree...it is the most important, probably the "transfer" moment, or at least a stage of evaluation the liquid is making of David to determine feasibilty.

david handles the alien materials without gloves - like when he opens the urn. it implies he's got basically a pair of rubber gloves for hands.

Since this picture and its connected footage is related to David's all-so-famous words "Big things have small beginnings", I'd say this liquid is packed with non-human Biotech i.e. 'Microbiomechanoids' and it makes perfect sense that he doesn't wear gloves. He's a synthetic and therefore most certainly immune against intruders of this kind. I agree with nostromo77, I don't want to believe this movie goes any more crazy than those invasive life forms need a host of organic origin in order to transform it.

You can also see some of the urns overflowing with what I believe is the very same liquid David investigates/admires on his fingertip. 'The Oil of Life'

although he is not human, I do not think he is totally immune to the black oil. It might affect him somehow. did anyone else noticed he is the only one wearing sandals...........and also even knowing he is a robot, is funny how he sits really straight and well mannered compared to the rest of the team at the briefing.

I do not think that David transforms at all. However, he probably causes the transformation of Holloway from human into SJ. I believe the key scene here is when Holloway is at the pool table chating with him and David asks what would Holloway be willing to do to achieve his goal, which actor Logan Marshall Green said was to "stand beside his maker" in some interview...

That image is conclusive proof that David transforms from an android into an android with a drop of black fluid on his finger. Shocking stuff.

Juston, that was a good one I'll admit. If I didnt beleive that David does transform, I'd want to say that too, or at least think of that.

The "big things have small beginnings" shot which precedes this close up is the last shot in the previous full trailer ie. it's important. Also, the mutating figure at the start of the full trailer "A king has his reign..." looks a lot like Fassbender... Just sayin' ! (I assume the king is Weyland, and he is mortally ill / searching for immortality.) I hope this doesn't end up with some b.s. time travel ending where David is back on Earth spawning mankind... (because it would make some weird kind of sense, David would need to leave clues to where the alien planet was to fulfill the paradox). I'd hate that since it is an anti-evolution concept.
