MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 6:10 AMU know like in the trailer the words about "The King" etc have any of you thought that this could infact relate to Weyland himself?
Sorry im new to the site if its it been discussed before i apologise.
Just that going off what we see and the theories, time lines etc and having watched the Ridley Q&A u cant help but feel that it may well relate to Weyland..

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 6:16 AMI feel is related to the Space Jockeys race ....for how much Peter Wyeland can be powerful i dont find him fit to play the role of the "king"

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 6:26 AM@Stay Frosty: i think the "King" that Vicker's is referring to is David
David is an advanced android, and sort of king of his time,
but with the discovery of the Engineer's species, Vickers senses that David
has designs of his own, in regards to wanting to become more than what he
is intended to be, hence his "reign" is now over, and is "dead"
at least that is what i have deduced from the IMAX trailer,
where Vickers seems to have a physical altercation with David near a bulkhead
i could be wrong,
but that is what i am thinking was the voice over at the start of the new trailer

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 7:04 AMI'm thinking Shardy is maybe onto something with his David theory, as quoted in the UK trailer: "How far would you be willing to go to get your answers? what would you be willing to do?"
This does suggest that David has a sort Machiavellian revelation in terms of his goals of becoming something more....... AND would tie in with the themes in Blade Runner which are reported to be shared with Prometheus.
So instead of Niccolò Machiavelli's "The Prince"
we now have Ridley Scott's "The King"
Or else I could be spouting complete crap!

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 7:09 AMI too agree that David will play a very big role in the trying to advance the found alien ampules and himself; that he will get carried away. Hopefully he doesn't turn out to be just a controlled bad android like Ash, as we've seen that before, but I'm sure there will be more to him than that.
I think the whole King concept is very intriguing and cool, as whoever the King is we can see he's been infected by something, although he seems completely at ease with it (as I'm sure David will be as well).

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 7:20 AMI think ´the king´ is preferrable more kinda ´lyric´term used, for the advanced, regarded as ´kings´ or ´demigods´by ancient, early mankind. The whole plot has to have a convincing ´ancient astronaut´ beginning otherwise it wont work.

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 7:27 AMIf you look at around 2:00-2:03 in the non-UK full trailer, when the Space Jockey rises from the floor, you can see "The King" (the bald guy from the opening) or someone resembling it at the right of the chamber. Could be David or another infected character trying to take the Space Jockey's power or to take control of its ship.

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 7:39 AMThe whole "King" speech may be symbolic. The "king" here may refer to the megalomaniacal Weyland who wants immortality, or the Space Jockey who wants to rule the galaxy once more though available human hosts, warm bodies. Shudder at the thought. This is going to be an excellent science fiction.

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 7:42 AM@Shardy
I don't think Vickers refers to David as "king" since he is only just a lowly android for the longest duration of the movie. He only presumably turns megalomaniacal when he encounters God's technology. Unless...David is Weyland reconstructed through his advanced research facility & technology (!). This is suggested in another forum.

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 7:45 AMI think "the king" reference is to humanity as a whole, not any individual. In other words, our time may be almost up.

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 9:04 AMPersonally, I see it directly for what it is in the trailer.
Some type of humanoid being, who happens to be a leader(or his race at the top of the evolutionary process), coming to its end. The "what if" is where extrapolation comes into play:
1.) The humanoid being who happens to be decaying at the beginning seems to be on Earth in the past. What if this humanoid is at war with the Space Jockey civilization for the resources on Earth. The Space Jockey lose the war. As a last act of war, the Space Jockey infects the planet. One day vowing to return to Earth for its resources.
2.) What if in the cosmic evolutionary process two races of alien are at the pinnacle of technology and achievement. One scientific and peaceful (advancing life through out the universe-the humanoid king). The other, advancing via means of war and destruction-the Space Jockey. It's an arms race like we see here on Earth with predator-prey systems. The humanoids are serving to preserve life from the destruction of the Space Jockey. The humanoid king one day arrives to Earth and warns civilizations of Earth of the carnage of the Space Jockey. However, the king's reign comes to an end like all evolutionary processes. This is what Shaw sees in the ruins and misunderstands. It's a warning. Furthermore this is why the Space Jockey doesn't know where Earth is. It's hoping for misguided souls that forget or ignore the warning. "I was so wrong"-Shaw
I tend to see this in this context of evolution of species within the universe because Ridley Scott states Prometheus is about everything.

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 9:12 AMmy lord why do you guys complicate things so much for yourselves? Itw as pretty clear from the trailer.

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 3:06 PMIt is obviously a reference to Elvis Presley. Weyland digs up Elvis, restarts his brain with their magical device, puts him in a hypersleep chamber (as detailed in the timeline) and launches him towards LV-426 (which is without any doubt the exact same planet in all the movies because there aren't any other planets. The main threat is that Elvis is coming back to Earth to RULE US WITH XENOS!
There, I just figured out the plot. End of discussion.

MemberFacehuggerMar-20-2012 3:51 PMVickers is talking directly to Wayland or about Wayland if the line is dialogue from the movie.
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 4:24 PMHello people,.
"The King" in my reckoning is the dude at the beginning,.
Who happens to be immortalised in sculpture after his death,,
With all that either belonged to him,.
Or his creations,. Surrounding this massive idol,.
To be worshipped or remembered after his passing,.

MemberOvomorphMar-21-2012 6:57 AMHi,
i had to dig to find this topic, i think that's the king reffer to an ancient Assyrian poem that claim that he hope tha when his king dies, may pass away to "the land of the silver sky".. I found it in an old book "Babylonians and Assyrians: life and customs" from writer Archibald Henry Sayce ( P. 242/ P. 243)
The entire chapter about religion is interresting and could open the gates of the project prometheus website, as there is a lot of reference to the city of eridu :)
