MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 6:01 PMAfter watching the trailer i have to say i was shocked to see that the space jockey as we all know from Alien is just some sort of suit for another life form to get in to,dont get me wrong i am still looking forward to watching the film, but after all these years being led to belive it was an alien and having so many questions needing answered,what/where they came from for example i personaly feel a bit let down as this was one of the most unanswered questions from the original film imo.

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 6:07 PMI agree with you - for years I thought the SJ was another sort of alien. But from what I've seen of the trailers, I'm thinking that it still IS a an alien, but a humanoid type. From what I've read and heard, R. Scott is exploring the aspect of 'alien astronauts', beings not too dissimilar to humans, that were responsible for man discovering fire, tool making, etc...

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 6:09 PMMovies can be difficult for purist (I include myself in this group) who find Hollywood's lack of respect for the fans a disappointing too. Watching Dallas examine the remains of the SJ and the outward bent ribs seemed like it was more than just a suit. Like I mentioned in another post, like everything associated with the Aliens / SJ, there is a true melding of organic to the inorganic that forms the basis for the Bio-Mechanical that is evident everywhere in the various scenes.

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 6:10 PMThe SJ's ARE an alien life form. In the trailer, you can clearly see how much larger they are than the humans. The more trailers I see of Prometheus, the more I'm inclined to believe that the leaked synopsis was, indeed, real. Not going to make me want to see the film any less, though.

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 6:12 PMThe way I viewed the SJ in relation to the Aliens, is like the way a human might be related to a bear or any other animal. Relative connects will always exist between the two, but at a higher level they do become separated in a intellectual way.

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 6:16 PMWho's to say that the pilot doesn't biologically merge with the "suit", essentially *becoming* the SJ? I mean, horrifying physical transformations/mutations seem to be a running theme given what we've seen so far...

MemberFacehuggerMar-20-2012 6:36 PMIt is interesting that the configuration of the "helmet" makes it difficult for a facehugger to do its thing. I would also agree that the suit is a separate organism that symbiotically melds with its wearer.
Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 6:36 PMI watched the original Alien movie last night and paid a lot of attention to the Space Jockey when the scene came up sitting in his seat. It is definitely bigger than humans and it is not some type of suit. Also, it is not the same vehicle as from the new trailer. If you notice in the trailer, there are four sleep/cyro chambers where the space jockey is, all with holes in them, if you watch the original movie, there are no sleep/cyro chambers, so hinceforth, not the same location or same ship.

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 6:47 PMDoes the slimy eel have anything to do with the SJ/suit morphing?

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 6:53 PMI was thinking the same myself. The organic look in the first movie imo was the goal in that movie. We'll see what's going on. At this point, it's all speculation on what is going be. Ridley was very tight on this movie so time will tell regarding the enigma of the Space jockey. Plus, I'd think that Gieger would be vocal about that, seeing that he too is about control and look of his works in this movie.
@Alien Drone, I believe that this is the same ship. There are too many coincidences in the shape of the ship and the seat where the Alien sit. Perhaps it's a different ship and species from the same planet? That's possible too seeing that we humans have different looks etc. But I do strongly believe it's the same ship. This one is attacked and crashes. The one in Alien more than likely crashed too.
