Sorry if my opinion offends but I still say if you haven't seen Alien watch it first before this if then post your thoughts on here.Still loads of unanswered questions regarding the space jockey for me.

Totally agree. This movie is rubbish and is a let down. 35 years and wat a dissapointment. Where can I start. First he should have hired jos to write the script and not Damon. John original daft was far better. I can believe they go back and forth to ship then temple. Ship then temple. Ship thm temple for god sake stay in the fucking temple. The story is slow and slightly rubbish. The 2 main things that carry the film David and 3d. If not this film will be scored a 1 out if 5. £13 to watch in 3d don't waste your money and watch avengers. Ridley is 74 he should hang up his gloves and let tony direct instead. OMG 35 years and I would rather of watch alien. Never mind good try and it was entertaining to a degree but not a classic and not. Good movie but just an ok movie. If you would like to know what happens please respond

Yep, have to agree wholeheartedly.
The ultimate missed opportunity to pull together the greatest sci-fi movie ever made.
Not even close to it.
I won't see it again in the theatre but I will hold out for the Blu-Ray where hopefully I'll be able to adjust the soundtrack so it's basically not there and also prey for a slight stretch edit of the final act.
Obviously, this won't happen and I'll be disappointed AGAIN!
I actually liked the fifield/millburn pieces as they were bumbling fools and bumbling fools are everywhere, even in space! Right?!?

I agree this is definetly a phantom menace for the alien franchise.. I dont get how ridley could talk shit about the avp movies, and then come out with this its a mystery to me.
ive let out alot of my frustration about the movie in this thread

Would like to hear some more deep thoughts about prometheus

Here are a few of my personal grudges:
1. Most of the scenes only seemed to be there to create a stage for the effects. Half of them made no sense what-so-ever.
2. Overblown soundtrack. Even when someone was picking up a cup of coffee you had a fucking orchestra exploding. Seemed really silly and pulled me out of the experience again and again.
3. Really badly written script. All the "great" and "provocative" ideas presented seemed like they had been lifted straight from a Wikipedia page. Ridley threw a couple of really trite concepts in there, but totally failed to discuss them.
4. The worst dialogue in a Science Fiction film since Event Horizon. Charlize stresses how this is Weylands most expensive expedition ever (trillions of billions, whatever). A mission that can't fail. Yet they have hired the most retarded crew that seem more like "dick in yo mouth" Jocks than real scientists. They don't seem loyal to the company either. What could have been great discussions about scientific and existential questions is completely ruined by stupid lines like "So you just wanna throw 300 years of Darwinism out the window? lol".
5. David seemed to be the only averagely intelligent and educated person on the Prometheus. They try to make him look smart by having him learn several languages in no time. But he honestly doesn't utter anything more complex than how to make a cup of coffee. Yet he does it with a sort of cold elegance that I could appreciate. He really stole the stage.
6. Why did Charlize have to be Weylands daughter? This is the kind of bullshit that just made the script even more incoherent (point 1.). It didn't support the main story in any fucking way. It just made for a really silly scene.
7. The horror and suspense was very badly directed. The scene where the two geologists (though they seem more like teenagers working at the local gas station) loose their lives (at least one of them does) in the "ampule room", is just... Man I was so disappointed. Seemed more silly than horrific.
I did on a positive note like most of the designs. Especially the insides of the Prometheus. Loads of cool gadgets. The outside design didn't do anything for me. Much too messy.

I too have Just seen Prometheus and have unfortunately came away sad, dissapointed and frustrated.
Don't get me wrong there were good parts in it but it could have been so much more...
The descent sequence to the planet was very good.
Ridley has created a far away believable world in Prometheus but has failed to deliver the shock and horror that was promised...
Ridley did quote that he was wanting to scare the livng shit out of you..
I am afraid Sir Ridley you have failed...
The so called monsters were laughable at best.
Is it just me or did the SJ/Engineer's skin remind anyone of a really cheap crappy blow up doll ? (must be just me then, and no i haven't before you ask...lol).
As someone has stated earlier Michael Fassbender really does steal the show and i enjoyed the part with Fifield and Milburn encountering the snake like Alien however they did remind me of the Thompson Twins from Tin Tin (But this ain't Tin Tin is it).
But these moments were few and far between.
The so called horror scene with Shaw's infant was imo not that horrific as anyone who has had children delivered the same way (Allbeit not the same species..lol) will probably agree.
Noomi rapace also did quite a good job if not a little cheesy.
Come to think of it the whole movie was cheesy...
Having to play a tune on a fuckin penny whistle to activate the star map..
OMG..
Come on Ridley..
You can do better than that..
Logan Marshall Green's character was not as dislikeable as i thought he was going to be and at one point i found myself feeling sorry for him so i guess Ridley Scott did manage to stir my emotions with elements of this film.
Charlize Theron i thought did quite a good job but her death could have been better.
Idris Elba and the other two pilots did a good job although again with plenty of cheese.
Unfortunately the Ford character was instantly forgettable as were the others including Mr Weyland although i thought Guy pearce did well in the role..
The Music score was good and dramatic but very uneccessary in places..
I was contemplating going to see it again Today to see if it gets any better but do you know what, i am going to save my money.
I don't think i can go through the dissapointment again.
Reminded me of AVP all over again..
If there is a sequel Ridley...
Please don't let Lindelhof or Spaihts any fuckin where near it.....
Please don't take my word for it...
If you haven't seen it go and see it and make your own mind up..
But be prepared to be dissapointed and let down....
This is Pikey.
Last surviving member of the Starship "Oh Dear Ridley, You've fucked up this time".
Signing off...

Some great thoughts here. I'm just hoping for a completely new sci-fi horror done right so that we can forget about this weird film.

With everything that has been said so far and from watching the movie, I really think ridley f'd up by choosing lindeloff's script..
And some of his statements really shows that he himself kinda underestimated how beloved the Alien is..
Ive read earlier somewhere that ridley said the "Alien in its original shape is worn out".. which I think is just ridicoules.. Ive seen the alien appear really nice in 3 movies so far, and im talking apperance only, the way its animated or shown.. Alien rescurrection shows the alien really nice, I love the sounds and screams from the aliens in that movie, eventough its definetly not my favorite Alien film. The first avp also showed some nicely animated aliens, and also showed us the alien in combat which was awsome, eventough the first avp also suffered from a terrible script.
The alien Queen in Aliens speak for itself, its the most dark and creepy feeling when ripley first encounters it..
With all that said, im still reflecting about prometheus after watching it yesterday.. And so far it is really starting to bug me, that all the designs of the creatures and monsters in prometheus look like things ive seen before in other completly different movies..
For example the squid like monster in the end, reminds me so much of the creature in "the thing", almost felt like I was watching "the thing" when I finally saw the creature in full scale.. And the scene where shaw gets it removed from her stomach in the medlab, did'nt seem scary like it was meant to, and when the thing is finally pulled out of her, I was so disapointed to see something that looked so much like the little creatures in the movie "splice".
Even fifields mutation dident seem so scary, cause you never really find out what happend to him, besides from that fact that he got one inside of him, but he just goes nuts, kills a few and then get killed himself, and then it kinda seems like its all forgotten.
The space jockey itself, well.. I dont want to sound like a hater, but if anyone has seen blade 2, then notice how he look and reminds alot like the old leader vampire in blade 2, they could have been brothers is all im saying.. The alien in the end is not even alien worthy in my opinion, it looks way to much like some of the b movie creatures that have been trying to copy the succes of the original alien creature over the years..
Im just saying that the creature designs of prometheus does not seem original and unique at all.. It all reminded me about something that ive seen before.. And that sucks, cause in my opinion we havent even seen half of the original Aliens capabilities, and how cool it could look with todays cgi.
I hope someone in hollywood is wise enough to know that the audience wants to see more Alien. Im personally crossing my fingers for a future installment of avp, nothing like the first two. But with a nice epic script and the horror and adventure level we saw in aliens by james cameron.. But its highly unlikely that anyone will reboot avp at the moment, sadly

I saw it last night at BFI IMAX and vented my feelings of betrayal in a few posts last night.
I decided to take the plunge again this afternoon in 3D, non-IMAX.
I was actually better second time around!
That damn soundtrack is absolutely atrocious though!
I feel better for watching it again but it could have been such a better film than it turned out to be.
I'm not holding my breath for potential wonderment
of the sequel!
