Why I think Prometheus will suck

LOL but you will still go and watch it just like the rest of us......why? because, if nothing else, it's going to be a fabulous and visually entertaining 2 hours

Well... I've been lurking here for a while and I had to create an account to respond to this... Firstly - most stories have been done multiple time... very hard to find a truly original story anymore. Second - the look of the movie is not as "clean" as some claim... the Prometheus is supposed to be a new scientific exploration vehicle NOT a space tug like in the first Alien. Consider the look of the Space Shuttle or the Lunar Lander.... these craft were well maintained and pretty clean - i'd say the look is actually a bit more realistic than the filthy look of Alien based on actual examples. Third - No one really has any idea how good or bad this movie will be based on 2 minutes of footage from a trailer... Ridley Scott does run a bit hot and cold in terms of output - but his 2 science fiction movies so far have been groundbreaking classics in every sense of the word and so I suspect this movie will at least be "good" or entertaining enough to be worth my 10 bucks. IMO of course.

this movie smells of bland sci-fi aka John Carter...pretty yes, CGI plenty....but lacking soul...an empty shell I predict a rt movies/imdb rating of around 67%....ok, but overall dissappointing, and lacking soul...I will be bang on the money mark my words now

i think some one is wanting some attention , so lets go on a site where people are actually HAPPY about some thing and then trash talk it to stir up a hornets nest and feel better about themselves.

I don't like what I have seen... you accuse me of being immature, yet you are the ones calling for banning because I don't like something...Ok Himmler, calm down, you will have a stroke I have been on this forum for a good 6 months, it's not like I am making a snap decision...from what I gather so far, this movie is heading towards Alien Ressurection level disappointment...I may be wrong, but Im probably right

Jeystone, I respect your opinion, although I do not share it completely. I am hopeful that as "clean" as it looks now, there will be a part of the movie when the proverbial you know what hits the fan and it gets dark, gritty and visceral. And just from my observation on other posts you've put up, I think some of the issue is they have a fair amount of negativity in them and I think that probably catches some people on here off-guard.

i was the only one i knew as a kid that watched alien and aliens, let alone being a huge crazy fan that collected merch from the movies. still to this day my bf laughs at me if i go on a rant about anything xenomorph. if you don't think this movie will live up to your expectations just do what i did, you get down and NERDY and make some fanfics. anyways, some things i have seen in the trailer i don't care for. the main one being the very poor CGI space jockey suit and other scenes. but i have hated CGI ever since i saw it so this movie isnt dissapointing me any more then any other movie that uses too much CG. i am a huge B movie fan and cant get enough good ol' stage make-up, puppets, and costumes. (star trek nerd much?) no matter what ive ranted online, resistance is futile and the big companies will never stop with the computer crapfest, so ive grown very tired of complaining about it. all i hope for is a good enough story line to make up for the few poor looking effects. still going to watch the movie in the theater no matter what ^__^ im going to bring a flask of rum just in case to spike my soda if it turns out as bad as the wolfman remake. that movie made me want to hang myself in the bathroom.

The trailer alone is better than alien ressurection. I dont think there is anything to worry about as far as this film goes.

The trailer is edited for PG / U so that it can be shown on TV; it has been noted by others on this site that there seems to be alternate edits for the trialers in the US, UK and International. E.G the UK trailer has Shaw splatered with red blood whereas in the US trailer the blood appears black in colour

Jeystone, if you've been on here a while you've certainly noticed the uncommon level of civility among the posters, whether they agree or not. That is the nature of this forum, discussion of ideas. You have low expectations for the flick, fine. (In fact, I'm TRYING to keep mine low, so I'll be pleasantly surprised.) But please don't grind an axe and don't let your posts get personal. There are plenty of people who think the movie will be amazing. And there are plenty of folks who've been waiting 30 years for someone to transport us back to the universe in which one of our favorite sci-fi horror stories took place. Lots of folks here might even enjoy a good debate about that, but please just keep it civil.

PG? I'll eat my own shorts if it is. At least I will be able to take my 8 and 10 year old boys to see it, right after I have made them watch the original! Then we'll go and see Friday 13th part 28 which I'm sure will be a "U".

I cant wait to see this movie. I don't like the idea of a PG rating but if that's what happens then so be it. It would of been nice to have another dirty film noir scifi but its been done already and one of the reasons alien and especially bladerunner were so dark was to help hide the fact that they didnt have enough money. Ridley used smoke and low lighting to his advantage and if he did it again he'd only be accused of repeating himself. I agree with Jeystone about CGI, I believe its ruining movies and someone should bring back old school techniques and only use CGI when really necessary. But who knows maybe that's what is happening with prometheus. Alot of the trailer and screen shots help support this idea.

I am sick of people spouting off the old "this movie will suck if it's PG/PG-13/etc". I am fairly sure that if Alien was to be released today it wouldn't earn an 18 rating. Apart from a single chest bursting scene, once the alien is knocking about on the nostromo I don't think we see a single drop of the red stuff. A film doesn't have to be gory to be scary.

while i dont agree with jeystones opinion of the trailer and i dont think the film will suck i have to defend him, unless someones deleted one of his comments i didnt spot him attacking anything anyone said he just stated his opinion , people jumped on his case staight away calling him a troll which is more insulting than anything he said, chill out peeps. on a more positive note i thought the trailer was awesome and i think the film will be equally so.

Scott uses practical effects whenever he can. He doesn't like cg either. We can expect less cg than most big budget releases just because he did it.

To get back to the original post: If you think the movie will suck, then save your $10 and our time. No need to post in a negative manner. If it does indeed suck, then all we will have is our little forum and the time prior to finding out. Let us enjoy it while it lasts. Ridley is too old? You'd better hope you can stand as well as he does at his age. Wisdom comes over years, and he can still use it to whatever advantage he wants. We should all be so lucky.

I saw a Prometheus trailer from "pop up trailer" that gives trivia and if it's to be believed Scott wanted an R rating for Prometheus. A PG rating would get a larger audience, but I think everyone involved in this movie is taking (for lack of a better word) chance with this film and making the movie that they want to make, meaning an R rated film. Honestly, if you told me 15 years ago that they were gonna make a prequel to Alien and Scott would be directing I would have said NO WAY would Scott have ANYTHING to do with it and look what is coming out now. My money is on an R rating @jeystone

Jeystone, I respect anyone's opinion. However, the attack on Sir Ridley Scott and his wife is what was unnecessary. First off that comment is rude addressed to anyone. Secondly, you are knocking a man who has made some of the most iconic movie of YOUR life time. Thirdly, this man has been Knighted by the Queen of England. An honor again that earns him respect. Lastly you don't talk about another man's wife! So I wonder what are your major accomplishments that puts you in a position to cast (personal) stones at this man???

its only gonna be a pg cos that what fox wanted but ridey said he filmed a r rated movie so he will bring it out on dvd as an 18 plus i dont think it will suck think it will kick butt and we not had a gd syfi movie in ages if u dont like the look of it dont watch it remindfs me of the starwar 1 2 3 hates i love all the starwars movie and all the avps

Let's not be too hasty folks. Ridley has stated that he prefers to use practical effects wherever possible so I doubt the film will be a CGI fest. Also we may be seeing partial incomplete CGI so the finished product may look better. I personally have no ussue with the CGI the trailer. @ jeystone: I appreciate your thoughts but i think its a little unfair to say Ridley is too old to be directing the film. I for one could not think of anyone better to do it. If he chose anyone younger then it would certainly would become a CGI fest.

The "clean" look is an attempt by scott to do something different and I think is in line with his love of european sci-fi comic book art...It is also a necessity for 3D ..It will all make sense when the glasses go on.. I'm not worried by about the certificate because sooner or later you will get the unrated cut... This movie is a practical movie...In camera effects...Models...Huge sets.... CGI is minimum in this film... The composite process is so good these days people don't know what they're looking at..

Jeystone. I know you want this to be a R rated movie, and you're let down like most of us as this is your second post concerning the rating of the film and you're just venting, but try and remember not to vent on the other members of the forum, Ridley or the movie itself. Fox is the one making the decision, and I don't think you would be upsetting anybody here complaining about them directly.

Whilst an honour from the queen doesn't instil any kind of respect from me (I'm from Wales, and not a royalist) knocking our Ridley is indeed below the waist. However, I have to say I am not a fan of CGI. CGI movement STILL doesn't look realistic to me.

Well, not everyone watches PROMETHEUS because they expect a gore orgy like many zombie movies etc. The only gore scene in ALIEN was the chest bursting. Any other kills by the Alien were shot so fast that you barely could see the splatter when the Alien bites Brett and Parker. I'm rather more concerned that they leaked so much in the current trailer. Hope the best things are yet to be seen in the movie. I'm really wondering what the Space Jockey does with Shaw as she is on the floor and he is approaching her. Also, what does the ALIEN mural mean? That the Space Jockeys already created them before the Prometheus crew landed?

Trailers can be deceitful in both ways. I remember swearing never go to see "Robocop" after seeing the trailer _ but this was because I didn´t get the irony of the movie. I only went to see it after word of mouth from friends. Conceivably most directors would want their trailers to be deceitful in the other direction: convincing most people that the movie is good, when actually it isn´t. From what I see, Scott and Fox´s suits would have to sweat a lot to wretch this project. At least I can´t remember of being deceived in a big way from trailers lately. To me the bigger enigma is the rating. Of course there are a lot of perfectly enjoyable PG-13 movies. I can´t remember none of them approaching the level where one can confidently say, "this is entertainment but also art". I think "Alien" and "Blade Runner" are as close as you can be to this level. Let´s see if "Prometheus" reaches this heights.

Bring on the new blood, ridley could never make a stunning film like sucker punch, or transformers. Lets face it the guys a novice, a complete waste of space, and experience of a lifetime counts for shit. Yeah this film will be a disaster full of Clichés and bad acting and loaded with appalling cgi . zack snyder i love you.

Ok forgive the sarcasm but really i would never go anywhere near a site or forum for a film ( and lets face it there are hundreds of them) that i have no interest or faith in and feel the way you do jeystone. I mean get a life you may as well be on the next jennifer aniston film site and slag that off. I just cant for the life of me imagine that you cant find something your really into to have something positive to contribute to .
