That image was seared into the subconscious of millions of fans and to just peel it open and say surprise, that's possibly one of the biggest artistic injustices I've ever imagined.

MemberOvomorphMar-23-2012 2:05 AMI agree, there's many questions to be asked when it comes to Giger's designs and style. Very unique and abstract to say the least. I would love to have a conversation with that man.

MemberOvomorphMar-23-2012 4:35 AMIt may not be what he had imagined; but I suspect he would 'get off' the idea. When you see a lot of Gigers artwork there is a common theme of machines using/abusing humans/humanoids... Is the machine an extension of the humanoid or is the humanoid and extension of the machine? Facinating artwork though

MemberOvomorphMar-23-2012 5:35 AMI wonder if Ridley Scott & Geiger had conversations about the SJ when making Alien? It was only a very small part of Alien but it raised a lot of questions. I just wonder how many were asked at the time? Ridley certainly has some ideas about what it was & what the ship was. He talks about this in the Alien documentary on the DVD. But I wonder what Geiger makes of it? Was it just another design he was asked to do or did he have more developed ideas about what it was?

MemberOvomorphMar-23-2012 5:47 AMReally a good question, though I think when he designed it, I think he did not thought about it that intensely but just started to create that design through his inspiration
to look creepy.

MemberOvomorphMar-23-2012 7:21 AMWell, according to Ridley Scott, Giger likes everything a lot (fourth paragraph down).
Also, I'm not so sure the guys with the money would care what Giger has to say, just as long as everything is on schedule and under budget.

MemberOvomorphMar-23-2012 7:29 AMDid Giger have any involvement in this film what-so-ever if naybody knows?

MemberOvomorphMar-23-2012 8:59 AMHe may be involved more than we are led to believe. For Ridley to say he designed creatures in this film would let the cat out of the bag on some monster designs, I think.
At least I would not be surprised if Giger is on the director's cut BD talking about his "new" monster.
I can dream, right?
