I hope Shaw is not the new Ripley

Or worse, that we get two Ripleyesque characters with Theron. The more clips I see, the more I worry. Plastered on an Entertainment mag was a picture of Rapace and "The New Ripley!" I am still not quite sold yet on the movie as Scott has disappointed in everything since Someone to Watch Over Me. Good looking movies but not much else. And while Ripley was great in the first two fims, even by Aliens I never felt all that much suspense when she was running around shooting up Xenos as I knew she was never in danger. I actually loved the idea of killing her off in Alien 3 (as did Weaver). The first rule of a good horror movie (sci-fi or not), according to his holiness Joe Bob Briggs, is anyone can die at anytime. It was one of the powerful things about the original, killing Dallas early. It would be nice to see horrible things happen to our heroines. The whole girl outsmarts everyone is now more cliche than having the girl outsmart everyone was bold in Alien.

Nothing since Someone to Watch Over Me? Gladiator, Thelma and Louise, G.I. Jane, Black Hawk Down. Really? All awesome movies (not just good looking) Everybody is entitled to their opinion, but WOW! Ok then.

Personally I don't think Mr. Scott would clone Ripley, no pun intended. He is smart enough not to do that. I think he will have two strong female characters but no Ripley in my opinion.

Yup. Maybe I was a bit strong . . . decent mainstream flicks but highly overrated. Thelma and Louise is a movie that was rife with the most overused feminist tropes even at the time. In 1972 it might have been a truly groundbreaking movie, but over time, it just doesn't age well. The general consensus on GI Jane stands with me, I believe. Not that the general consensus is always right, or even mostly, but it is a pretty lame flick. Now Gladiator was a great popcorn flick. Basically a decent remake of The Fall of the Roman Empire but awarding it with Oscars and pretending, as some do, that it is making some kind of statement on the masses addiction to violence is the height of hypocrisy. Black Hawk Down I am just not a fan of for its message but am willing to concede it is a great movie. So in the end I am sticking by my original statement. I think Scott's first three movies are absolute classics. Legend is interesting and after that . . . meh.

@dallas!dallas!: i agree with you about the "New Ripley" angle, i think some folks want to project that iconic image on this new one, i for one am not really feeling it - - at all i also agree with you about Scott, although i will say i thought "Hannibal" had it's moments just really glad Scott forgot about his fixation on Russell Crowe's lardy butt for PROMETHEUS

@bigbirdjimmy That's what I am hoping. I think Alien, Aliens and yes, Alien 3 all had great characters . . . I mean Dallas, Parker, Lambert, Hudson, who doesn't love Hudson?, Vasquez, and even the prisoners of Alien 3 were all so atypical, believable, and I guess ultimately contemporary. I am just hoping the characters and actors are on the same level.

@dallas!dallas!: Dude, BlackHawk Down was based in real events. Is not fiction... that's what makes it an awesome modern war film for me...

@Kronnang Yes, I know it is, I am very familiar with the actual events. I just don't like what Scott is saying about them. But you are right, it is a great movie.

Does anyone suspect vickers is droid sent by the company to insure a specimen is brought back. She sure throws David around in the IMAX trailer like she has super strength?
[i]Does anyone suspect vickers is droid sent by the company to insure a specimen is brought back. I thought for a while because of her posture in this still: Also her mannerisms throughout the trailers, as well as the way she speaks when she tells Holloway and Shaw 'if you go down there you'll die.' And mostly, because in this interview from last year when asked if there are androids in Prometheus, Ridley Scott says "maybe even two." http://youtu.be/5LeIce4lc8s

I hope neither Vickers or Shaw are new heroines - Ripley wanted to make a much darker film, I know you may not like to hear this but, how much darker could you make this film if there's no survivors, no "air punching" when the alien is defeated, no snuggling up to some furry critter while a happy getaway is made. Maybe, just maybe, the film also ties in with the Pandora myth, where there's nothing left but Hope. I would like to see a shock ending that we're just not expecting.

It does appear that Vickers is an android as well, just don't know her intentions. I must have missed the clip showing her throwing David around as someone stated. She does have a more aggressive tone than David in the trailers. Maybe she's more of a soldier type android.

I don't think that the ending would be so easy (only the crashing, only two survivors until one of them dies, booom) and I don't even think that the crash is going to be at the very end of the movie. I'm certain that there has to be something we don't know or something we wouldn't expect. Or maybe it's just me. Also, I don't think Elizabeth is the new Ripley. It's only marketing. Her characteristics seem to be different from Ripley. I don't see her surviving this journey. Or at least staying in her human form.
