MemberOvomorphApr-20-2012 11:12 PMI (and others) have been commenting on the 2001-Prometheus connection but can anyone tell me, quickly now, in 30 seconds or less, what Odyssey book from Clarke has a specific connection with Alien? And what is it?
T minus 30 seconds until I think you got the answer from someone else.
And if you guess correctly, you win an incredible night on the town. First, you pick me up on any Friday night after June 16th. Then you treat me to a viewing of the new Ridley Scott film, "Prometheus." And popcorn. With butter. Then you escort me home. Prefer female contestants only.
Good luck!!!
And yes, I am being humorous (about the prize, not the question). Unless you really want to take me . . .

MemberOvomorphApr-20-2012 11:30 PMOh, so close . . .
Lucky for the ladies AKAN just missed it!
Seriously, there is one book from the Odyssey series that makes a specific connection. And it ain't Showgirls.

MemberOvomorphApr-20-2012 11:40 PMNope, you're thinking of Childhood's End where the Aliens inform humans that they want to see Elizabeth Berkeley. Privately.

MemberOvomorphApr-21-2012 1:55 AMActually, Spartacus, I did the search and not one thread was found. nada, zilch. Which makes sense as my question pertains to a direct mention of Alien in one of the four Odyssey books by A C Clarke. Unless I may be using the wrong search terms, which is a possibility.
And while I personally received thousands and thousands of hopeful answers, (okay not one) I will keep you all in suspense no longer . . .
2010: Odyssey Two
In the novel, when two astronauts first board the Discovery for the first time since the disaster of the first mission, one tells the other not to go chasing after the ship cat to which the other replies something to the effect that he'd like to get his hands on the person who included THAT movie in the ship library.
So there you have it. And you call yourself Alien fans. Shame.

MemberOvomorphApr-21-2012 1:57 AMI don't think this one has been asked. If so, I do apologize but I couldn't find it. But blame the search engine, not moi.

MemberOvomorphApr-21-2012 5:46 PMI am shamed. But do we NEED to expose ourself to anything vaguely related to the franchise? Spaceballs for example! I appreciate the books, (especially the one when they meet a live Space Jockey) but where do we draw the line? Read everything about bananas as they are the same shape as the scarey ones head?

Lol. You are hereby granted absolution.
But if someone (not here, but elsewhere) can look at me like I am clueless for not playing some Alien video game, then I have to fight back somehow!
