MemberOvomorphMar-25-2012 8:33 PMJust thought I would ask if this movie is a "remake" of the alien franchise. A sort of "reboot" of everything.
The reason why I say this is the fact that there are alien like creatures in it, but do not appear to relate physically to the alien species its self.
With that being said, there is a statue or a frozen original xenomorph can be seen at 1:37 in the new U.S trailer.
Maybe this is not a true alien prequel after all.
Or I am completely wrong and Ridley Scott has successfully fooled us and he kicks all of our asses into a pure alien prequel!
I hope these creatures are early forms of the xenomorph species.

MemberOvomorphMar-25-2012 8:52 PM"I think this film will be seen as a masterstroke by Ridley Scott...a single film referencing Alien And Blade Runner, but, as Scott as said repeatedley, it's a film that exists as it's own. What we're going to see is a prequel to Alien, combined with a sequel to Blade Runner...a two-for-one containing elements of what Scott has always portrayed in the his vison of the future. So many people want to... see aliens and space jockeys and the public focus has been led that way, all the while more or less forgetting about Blade Runner...what we will see will be the combination of those two films....it's going to be more badass than anyone can imagine. This film will serve as foundation for the film Ridley Scott has waited 2 decades to make, "The Forever War", the original third story of Scotts intended trilogy. Well, thats coming folks, and its going to hit the world with the impact of this generations version of "2001".

MemberOvomorphMar-25-2012 9:05 PMIf they combined Blade Runner and the Alien universe I will ask for my money back.
There is no need, or reason for those worlds to be combined. Hell, Blade Runner Replicants don't fit at all with the Weyland timelime. To put all of them together is just....stupid.
So all this to tie it into an adaptation of a classic novel? Jesus that will never happen. Forever War is a classic and Ridley trying to work his ideas into it is ego beyond fucking ego.

MemberOvomorphMar-25-2012 11:13 PM"Hopefully, it’s a hybrid in tone between the original Alien and Blade Runner"....Damon Lindelof speaking about Prometheus TED Blog February 2012.
As far as The Forever War, the film rights were snapped up at enormous cost shortly after publication. Scott had well publicized problems with Blade Runner and could not get backing to make The Forever War...and the property remained with the buyer who also tried to get it filmed and couldnt...despite having 2 Oscars to his name. Scott intended all those years ago to make The Forever War the third installment in his sci fi trilogy. It never got made by anyone BUT...who's got the rights now? Ridley Scott...and thats why he came back to sci fi now....he's going to get that made the way it was intended to be made, the way the guy who owned it all these years wanted it made and couldnt get it done and wouldnt let anyone else do it.

MemberOvomorphMar-25-2012 11:16 PMYeah, this may carry similar themes to Blade Runner, but will not be related. At least not by setting. They are seperate worlds. Synthetics and replicants are totally different. (structurally speaking)
I may work for the company, but im really an OK guy.

MemberOvomorphMar-25-2012 11:50 PMThe creature we see in Alien gets its DNA from Prometheus. I think in both metaphorical and literal senses.

MemberOvomorphMar-26-2012 3:13 AMI'm beginning to stop reading "Alien DNA" as meaning prequel/origin story of Alien, and more as meaning, "we're going to rip off some bits of Alien to start this new universe and franchise". A kind of Alien lite - for the kids.
I know Ridley is pushing on but to mix Blade Runner into the soup is going to over season it. I want the Alien origin story damn it - to hell with Von Daniken and Greek mythology.

MemberOvomorphMar-26-2012 4:10 AMCould we get a comparison shot of the original alien star map room and the prometheus one, because I'm sure that's changed. Seems to be about half the size.

Gehirn
MemberOvomorphMar-26-2012 4:26 AM@Derp, from what I recall that shot was taken using kids to give the illusion that the room was much bigger.

Mattoo
MemberOvomorphMar-26-2012 2:31 PM@Gehirn, that's true, but then why not make the new star map 2x as big to fit with the original? While in real life it was smaller and made to look bigger, in the movie universe it really is considered that big. Now that they can easily make it look that big, they choose not to...

MemberOvomorphMar-26-2012 3:38 PMI hope they dont mix blade runner too. But I think one of the themes of prometheus is going to confrontation between creator and creations, probably on several levels. As I think as been suggested already. SJ to human, human to synthetic.
