accent it should be edited out why did he not just use his
real londoner accent its a international mission to space.

Ugh, I do have to admit that it doesn't 'sound' right to me either. And when he says, 'It's picking up life form'. You don't even hear that he says ... picking up "A" life form. It just sounds like he's saying 'It's pickin' up life form'. What? LOL
edit: he is talking about Idris Elba's character when Prometheus lands on the planet. It kinda sounds like he has a lisp.

just watch the trailer and youll know what im talking about
silly fake accent prometheus has landed its comical its
only in the american trailer.
March 26, 2012
What if that's part of the character, who cares...if that's what the role calls for then so be it....yeesh
March 26, 2012
So what if he has a fake American accent. what's the big deal? Maybe he portraying an American character.
March 26, 2012
I'll try and not take too much offense at your reference to a "silly American accent" and answer your question.
Firstly, Idris's Elba accent is impeccable, while starring in The Wire practically no viewers knew he was English. Secondly, The US is the biggest and most important market for this movie, the audience need to identify with the ship captain for his role to work. Its about commerce.
Question for you Musab, why do you think David uses a fake English accent instead of his native accent? Did you even notice?
March 26, 2012
@Enderwiggin, i'm with you on that one. Musab's remarks kinda rubbed me the wrong way. good point about david.

One thing I will hate about this movie if as the rumors are true and this turns into The Thing in space with a bunch of Norwegian hooligans running around trying to clean up their English...
March 26, 2012
I was hoping Elba's character would retain his native London accent too.
Shame. Maybe not gung-ho enough eh?
March 26, 2012
you go Musab! fake accents suck it, hard. how dare Edris!!! Who does he think he is, Austin Powers? Please, for god's sake chime in with something awesome, Takka!!! Lets all fight!!!
March 26, 2012
but is the fault of the norwegians ?? The fact that other nations actors submit themselves to talk in english should be viewed as an act of courtesy ( and to be able to work ) ..not to a lack of skills . And anyway hearing norwegians talking a perfect english would have been a bit silly .Accents , languages and even errors ( me !! ) are part of the sharing of cultures , lets not fall into provincialism .
Regarding Janek ..i think that first they did write the character and then they did search the actor ... so i dont see the motive to complain .

Awight guv, Prameeffeus 'as laaendid, Gawden Bennett! Ave yow seen any xinnne-momoawffs rawnd ere or wot? This ain't bladdy Ew Vey foar taw six!

Feel free to bash Elba's attempt at a real southern American accent. I agree, it is pathetic- at least the parts of it that have been released so far. The comical aspect of this is his failed attempt, and not the actual accent.
Just don't make fun of the real thing, nor the Americans who actually have it. WE are not amused. We think you sound funny too, but we have the decency to keep that opinion to ourselves.
March 26, 2012
Crew man: Captain! collision course set for alien ship!
Janek: I only said to blow the bladdy doors off!!
March 26, 2012
actually, I'd rather he did not...I can't stand miserable, fake, aggressive, cocky Londoners...so yeah stick with the southern accent
one weird accent is the way Noomi says 'what is that?', she sounds bloody Mancunian or some gross midlands accent
March 26, 2012
@ the coming
Thats Kate Dickie - and she sounds Scottish..... which she is.
I know you only joined today but easy on the abuse, no need for it.
March 26, 2012
I think it would be kind of badass if he used his Stringer Bell voice.
Noomi sounds Australian in some scenes. "an invitation!"
March 26, 2012
could be worse , you could have a Canadian at the Helm , ,,,
Prometheus Has Landed ,,EH
March 26, 2012
"Prometheus has landed"....thumbs down on that line in any accent. Recalls too much of the US space program. Early fears of Lindelofism that were calmed are again poking their head up....
March 26, 2012
I can just imagine jockey-boy in a slouch hat being confronted in the orrery with a prissy little handgun and saying, "that's not a gun"...
March 26, 2012
WTF?!?
trashing lines / scenes before you've seen the actual film
and it's scene contexts....? let's hope you aren't sitting ANYWHERE
near me talking that smack, cuz you just might get smacked
better yet - don't go see the film, just wait for it to air on SpikeTV in 2014
