MemberOvomorphMar-30-2012 2:53 AMIf you look closely at the grid pattern in the Orrery, on the little orbs, they seem to have the same symbols as the wall of the temple.
Any ideas on the significance , if any?

MemberOvomorphMar-30-2012 3:05 AMHi,
i noticed this, it is also present on the picture showing the red door of the derelict or cavern...
For the writings, i think that it's Ougarit/Ugaritic alphabet exept for one symbol:

by the way, UGARIT is also a location where they found artefacts :

the coming
MemberOvomorphMar-30-2012 7:10 AMI'm sorry but I absolutely hate this 'minority report' scene...Ridley said he wanted to do something fresh but this idea is so overdone that it's getting ridiculous...
also how is it exactly they get a map from the composite of all these artifacts? is it like some Contact-style key?

In this thread 2fray2 posted a a great close up pix of the tablets shown during the crew meeting.
Of particular interest was the Hittite tablet. I don't recall the word 'Hittite' mention in the dialog scenes. and wondered if there was an historical reason for the oversite.
When Holloway was introducing the carious tablet discoveries he mentioned that the civlizations did not have contact with each other because of different time periods locations.
THis seems kind of hard to believe since several tablet were found arounf the North/East/South of the Mediterranean Sea.
THere might not have been direct contact but thru the cultures trading, heritage, folk lore there must have been some trading in the knowledge dept.
I begin to suspect some sort of coverup by Holloway and Weyland Corp to get not only the funding/support but also gget the crew fired up for the exploring coming up.
The funy thing I don't think this crew briefing did that job.
It didn't change anything in Shaw/Hiolloway mind as they were already gung-ho.
Millburn/Viickers/Fifield were never fired up about this moon.

MemberOvomorphJan-14-2013 3:53 PM@indy - I've just mentioned the Hittite mistake in a couple of threads including one post directed at you. Naughty boy.
Of course, there is continuity between four of these civilizations, especially Sumer and Babylonia but also the Hittites (which invaded Babylonia at one point) and Egypt. The Sumer language died out as a language of the people but remained a language of science and religion up until the 1st Century AD. So Holloway is wrong about the "no contact" line. Archeologists are always looking for two things in general - change and continuity.
Remember, part of the scientist theory is that the space jockeys are still speaking some kind of Sumerian language despite not even being on the planet for 1,000s of years. So he is basically contradicting himself when he implies no continuity on earth.
He also mentions Mesopotamia (in place of the Hittites) as a civilization when it is a region. Very basic stuff.
Add this to his other mistakes when talking about the planets and the moon, his inactivity in anything scientific (including not really understanding what a thesis is) and his complete lack of interest in the temple and jockey head and there's only one conclusion to draw.
Holloway is not a scientist.
Once that is admitted then every character is in the spotlight, especially Shaw.

MemberOvomorphJan-14-2013 10:56 PMHolloway is not a scientist is very good thought. I commend you for that observation. Other than being Shaw's lover he must be bringing something to the table.
Why did Weyland appoint him co leader of the mission?

Believe me I would not have associated Hittites with our movie except for your mention.
When I saw the sceen shot i realize i had only heard the audio and actually looked at the screen in detail. I sometimes think I am detail minded but somethings escape my seeing.
