Prometheus an actual being?

My thought- If the dude at the beginning is Prometheus and he stole the ability to create life from the Space Jockey's, created life on Earth, why would he leave the coordinates to his "home" with the humans? If we eventually showed up, obviously he would get in trouble and so would we. The contradiction is, that if Ridley Scott said that part of the trailer is the beginning of time, and the being looks kind of infected with something, then by the time we arrive out there, its all ready dead. So, if the Space Jockeys punished him, I would think that they would have tortured him to get the coordinates of Earth a long time ago, instead of waiting for us to show up to get the coordinates thousands of years later. You'd want to squash the bug before gained enough knowledge to advance its own race right?

I like your idea Xeno Jockey....that Prometheus is a being...... However, I've never quite understood the assumption that there are two sentient alien races involved here.....After the recent EMPIRE article, it would seem to me that our Blue fellow is 1) a SpaceJockey 2) an engineer and 3) the SpaceJockies and the engineers are one and the same race..........I think that the term engineer is just a term meant to describe this race of aliens we fans have come to know as SpaceJockies (I wouldn't lose that fan term though, I love it)...... OH MY GOODNESS.............I've had a eureka moment and it's all thanks to you Xeno-Jockey.......Prometheus is the blue fellow we see standing at the waterfall. He steals fire or knowledge from his fellow engineers/SpaceJockies and gifts it to humanity at the dawn of OUR time.....He is punished by his fellow enigneers, hence the affliction we see him dealing with above the falls and the origin of the Greek Promethean myth... If Prometheus is an actual allegorical character in this film, then my bet is there is a Zeus too. Another, more powerful Alien perhaps. And in the original Myth it was Zeus that tried to wipe out the HUMAN race, and Prometheus stopped him...

Exactly Necrofan...I believe that part is played by the other members of his race and we humans would have seen them as the Zues and Olympians of Greek mythology.

Maybe it's this Zeus that killed those other SJs, including the decapitated one. I believe the bald blue guys are actually benevolent based on evidence in the Why O'Bannon Was Right thread. We see one in the orrery with David, and I think it's assisting him.

Well i never heard or read the Ridley Comment about a Scene at the Begining of Time. But i can take your words for it, as i have not read or heard every comment made by him. And as such this does shed even more light, as it binds the Water Fall with Space Saucer Scene and SJ/Engineer and the words by the Female "A King has his Reign, and then he Dies" Your views could be interesting, could have good points and could be wrong and right, we just dont know all we know is the plot is going to be very intriguing. As you pointed out that begining scene would to me also indicate that its set on Earth, which could mean that the Planet in the movie could still then be LV 426 after some kind of apocalyptic event... or not. The Blue Man indeed looks to be suffering from some kind of deasease, that statement about a King and Death could indicate indeed this guy is dying. Could it be as punishment for using the SJ's special ingredient for life to create life on Earth? Or maybe just Man? That would imply that the SJ/Gods knew what he did at the dawn of time, and if they had a problem with that they would just come and cleaned up years ago. But maybe this SJ Stole some of the Special Stuff and went off to colonise a world for himself of which the other SJ/Gods know nothing about, but then how if they did not know to he become afflicted with that disease? I think that the SJ Race may have had different factions maybe some had tried to kill off others and some have fled the System to somewhere the others dont know about. Maybe he was not alone and a group of them fled, but became infected or maybe they only have a curtain lifecycle or need something to maintain their health. Maybe then the last surviving one used the Special Stuff not to heal himself but to create himself Children, to create a new Race in his image and thats how we was created. He and others would have ruled over us untill they died and that would explain the passing of information that led to cave drawings. Years latter we find the System they come from and this then means the other surviving SJ's find out that the SJ's that vistited Earth had done a very naughty thing in create a Race in their Image which these Jockeys are not very happy about. Thats one idea.

Thats kinda ties into maybe what i put, something had hapened to this race a Disease a War who knows if they mess about with Genetics and create Bio Weapons. Some SJ must have fled to set off to collonise another planet and use their DNA to create a Race in their Image so if and when they die out, at least they can live on in a way though Mankind their Children. Maybe the Star Charts was left, thinking that their Race would all die (maybe by Disease?) and so that maybe by the time Mankind learns to travel Space, they can find and then populate the old SJ Homeworld, or maybe the Blueguy hoped by then Peace would happen in his homeworld? Or maybe they knew they was dying off and left Star Chart so when we find them, the few surviving ones would be in some kind of hybernation and they need us to go there for some reason?

The other angle i had, was that again the SJs left over do not know about Earth? Or maybe they do, regardless... The other idea is that we find their world, but they find out we have a hidden agenda to Steal the Special Stuff, or we steal some of those Pods to take back to Earth to Study. The Space Jockeys can not allow that to happen, in this instance whats in those Pods is the Forbiden Fire that is Stolen. But then why wipe out Earth? Maybe we transmit a Signal to Earth to tell of what they found? Also once We discovered their World and set out our first mission (Prometheus) if that fails, we would potentially send out a rescue mission or indeed another one at some point in future. When time comes for us to try and land a probe on one of Saturns Moons if it fails, years latter we would try again would we not? If the first Moon Landing was a failure or the crew was never heard of again, Mankind would have sent up another mission surely. Maybe thats the case here, now Mankind knows about their System they know we potentially wont keep away and so instead to stop us they have to wipe us out.

BigDave I think, even before the trailers, we have pictures alluding to us stealing something, taking something back for research, something besides the jockey head. Could be an urn, and/or whatever we see David pulling out of a cannister. I think they know that Earth exists, but maybe not the particulars of our situation. I said elsewhere that maybe we are the "bad guys," that our hubris is a danger to the universe, which is fully realized once we see the star map and discover all sorts of different habitated planets. And the SJs are trying to get rid of us, for the greater good of the universe. I think, ultimately the SJs are not evil or hostile, but they have to stop us. They may also have some psychic ability that can see our plan to send a message back to Earth or such.

@Dave ... F*ck me you just wrote the script for a Sequel ;) ... nice ... @Xeno-Jockey ... I'm liking that part about Prometheus being a being ... could work ... Therefore the Zeus creature (or being) could then be the owner of the second lot of Hieroglyphics (that are found on the Pods/Ampules) ... maybe? ...

I don't think the movie is going to be following that closely to the mythical story. I'm willing to bet that the entire Prometheus crew will be filling the role of the Prometheus character (why else would the ship be called Prometheus), the crew probably attempts to steal something and in return is punished. I'd also like to note that the character we see at the beginning over the water fall is definitely a space jockey and I don't think he's infected at all even though it appears that way, he isn't showing any signs of pain and he seems to be very aware of what's happening to him. I would wager he's manifesting something or manipulating something about himself. If the Prometheus crew does not fill the role of the Prometheus character then my second bet would be Peter Weyland himself. Unlike everyone else (including the space jockeys) Peter will not settle for anything short of greatness or he will die trying, he is the only character bold enough to sacrifice himself for something greater.

@Goodkat Thats a good point i was thinking simular (we go to steal or find something they dont want us to have or our actions on that planet have profound implications). @Biehn_Bandit I think maybe just maybe what is pulled out is what becomes a Alien Egg? It does look kinda like a Split Banana and when you think the Eggs open up it has four splits in it. But then could those 4 points, point to four tenticles of a Squid? We just dont know, there are many possibilities and this movie is as intriging as the Question of really what is the Truth of our Creation and Existance? We may never all know the answer to that. But at least its not long to wait to find out what the Movies Plot is all about. I think it could throw a few suprises in there that we just dont expect.

This idea is very similar to my own thoughts. Only the blue humanoids are Atlanteans, all the myths turn out to be true, and we were left clues as to where they got their advanced technology from, and we were assisted along the way. Engineers and Jockeys are the same thing, but gods and engineers aren't the same thing. Furthermore, Weyland gives the Prometheus its name because of his obsession with mythology and intention to fill that role in the present. In my theory, by the end Prometheus the myth will have multiple meanings, and represent a being, but mainly have 3 applications story-wise: past, launch/present, and future/punishment/interactions with the two classes of being. In the myths the Titans are engineers in a sense. Creators of life. The gods are much different and are truly less godly than the much more ancient Titans who were called the Elder Gods. If the myth relates in more ways than the ship, as Ridley has said, then why would the human crew represent the Titans who are really the subjugated Elder Gods? I think Weyland just thinks he's a god/elder god taking the power back from the gods.
