Ripley Clone 8
MemberOvomorphApr-01-2012 3:22 PMEven though Ridley Scott’s hugely anticipated sci-fi epic ‘Prometheus’ is months away from release, looks like 20th Century Fox is already looking ahead with the franchise. And no, that doesn’t mean that they’re in talks with Ridley Scott to develop the sequel. In a bizarre move by the studio, they’re in talks with director James Cameron to direct the sequel in development.

A representative from Fox has said that the idea is to ‘replicate the success of ‘Aliens” after Ridley Scott’s ‘Alien’ was a massive hit and Cameron was able to provide a sequel that was ‘highly regarded and is arguably better than the original’. What the studio is referring to is the fact that James Cameron directed ‘Aliens’ as a sequel to Ridley Scott’s ‘Alien’ decades ago and it went on to receive an Oscar nomination and is heralded as one of the greatest action movies ever made. Not wanting to risk Scott being back for a sequel since ‘he’s never done one before’, talks have already begun with the ‘Avatar’ director to helm a sequel to the film after he’s done shooting Avatar 2 and 3 simultaneously.
Damon Lindelof has been hired to write the screenplay once again, but there are reports that him and the returning cast members aren’t happy at all about the fact that the studio is shutting original director Ridley Scott out of the equation.

An insider reports that the Scott camp is ‘furious’ about how this situation is turning out to be and the director himself has threatened to stop promoting the film to fire back at them. Fox chairman Tim Roth refused to comment further on the development, but did not deny the fact that they’re in talks with Cameron for the sequel.
There’s no information about the plot or what the title of the sequel will be, but sources report that the studio is looking at the working title of ‘Prometheuses’.
James Cameron said, "I’m not sure if Ridley changed his mind, because Avatar turned out fantastic, but it was during those early talks when he brought up the idea of me stepping in to direct a follow-up. This is why there’s a gap of a few years between ‘Prometheus’ and the original ‘Alien.’ That gap is meant for me to answer all the questions raised in ‘Prometheus.’ Ridley was eager for me helming a sequel to Prometheus, to continue the unraveling of the questions Prometheus will bring up. FOX is very serious about bringing me on board and exploring further what is left to be said about the world of Prometheus.”

MemberOvomorphApr-01-2012 3:57 PMi actually would not mind if James directed it. aliens was great and he is not always action, ever see the abyss? that movie is amazing, one of the best science fictions ever in my opinion, and he probably should not write it, i would like the same writers who do Prometheus to write the sequel but James is a very good director and visualizer.

MemberOvomorphApr-01-2012 4:06 PMNo way I think Sir Ridley would definetly do a sequal himself look the man is not that young anymore and if it were me , I would most def check out with a cool legacy like Alien and Prometheus and people still raving on about my works through the ages.

MemberOvomorphApr-01-2012 4:08 PMNice one. I wouldn't get too terribly upset unless there was mention of a Fincher-helmed Promtheus3, featuring a SJ ship crashing on a remote prison planet. Unfortunately, 3/4ths of the survivors from Prometheuses perish in the crash, leaving only a re-impregnated Shaw to lead the prisoners (all of whom for some reason are from the UK, except one) in a desperate struggle against a Prometheuses Xeno (or whatever) that somehow (no matter how unlikely) spawned from one of two facehuggers (or whatever) the first of whom nocked up Shaw, the other who survived the crash, and impregnated a local billy goat, setting up a fourth installment- Alien: Goatsurrection.

MemberOvomorphApr-22-2012 3:35 AMIn a related story, FOX plans to botch Prometheus 3, but hopes to tap Fincher to attempt to repair the damage. Fincher declined to comment.
