Ripley Clone 8
MemberOvomorph12/14/2011As its been mentioned, Prometheus is not a direct Prequel to Alien (1979) But a film "unto itself", As Rothman CEO of Fox put it. Ridley Scott also mentioned the fact that Alien fans will notice "Strands" of Alien DNA within the film and that Prometheus takes place in the same universe. What do you think Ridley Scott will include in his new film Prometheus that relates back to the first film in any way or at least somewhat ties in with the first film "Alien"?

Undoubtedly the Space Jockey. I think we're going to find out what that fossilised being from Alien was all about and how it ended up where we last saw it in Alien. I think Scott's early comments about this being the story of 'engineers of space' is basically what this is going to be about. Obviously the Space Jockey/s are the engineers. I think it's going to be about what went wrong when Humans got involved! I think it's also possible we will see somehow that the Alien/Xenomorph was created as a result of Human intervention. I don't think that we're going to see the Alien as a product of the Space Jockey directly. Not without Humans getting involved and throwing a spanner in the works somewhat. Hence 'they went looking for Earth's beginnings, what they found could be it's end'. The theme of the Alien films has generally been about Humans/corporations trying to exploit things that they don't understand and can't control. I think that theme will be continued in Prometheus.

MemberOvomorph12/14/2011what we have saw until now are a bit more than DNA strands ..of course we dont know if the plot will link in some ways to Alien ( derelict shop , xenos , the company etc ) even if Scott hinted that in the last 8 minutes the story will have some pretty solid Alien DNA .
We can assume that the story is a prequel but with not many evident ties and that in the last 8 minutes the movie will give a "base" for Alien to happen ( ship crashing on the lv426 for example )

MemberOvomorph12/14/2011Well from what we've seen in leaked pics and of course, the leaked trailer,we can assume we will see very familiar elements featured in Alien(1979)
The Space Jockeys-dead and alive
The Boneship/derelict before its crash
The 'company' element
its been hinted that the Xenomporph we know and love/fear will be there too
I believe its more of a Prequel than their letting on
I was thinking also (dangerous I know, lol) that on the leaked trailer it begins with someone talking- WE WERE WRONG,IM SO SORRY ETC.
Im starting to think this is the original transmission the Nostromo picks up?
Which would also hint at the Space jockey been a possible human mutation, which there has been a lot of speculation about?
Just my thoughts, what do YOU think?

Intriguing.

MemberOvomorph12/14/2011I guess they can retro fit it to that yeah..But wasnt the code that Mother "Intercepted" (Of course we know she intercepted f@@k all they were always headed to LV-426) just binary..01010111010101..? I know we never heard anything in Alien not even when Ripley checked it out so yeah this could be what she heard..

MemberOvomorph12/14/2011And on this DNA thing....no matter what they say this is a prequel.. be it 2 hours of one or just the last 8 minutes. Ridley even says as such ..Origin of the Spacejockey in the liner notes to the blu-ray. Look at the way the trailer was presented...the noise in the soundtrack to hark back to the classic original trailer.

MemberOvomorph12/14/2011Its like if you notice at the start of the PROMETHEUS trailer as the camera is panning downwards towards the planet its falling and turning to the left. Almost makes you want to tilt your head then follow it back up to its "natural" view..looking straight. In Alien the same thing happens as the Nostromo decends onto LV- 426...on the computer screen its doing the same action
Then the noise in both the 1979 and this trailer....The image of what looks like the Derelict landing/falling, and the Spacejockey rising through the floor all visual links to Alien ....we recognise them and associate it all with this...
Same thing was done on AVP-R. One of the leads was called "Dallas" and if you listen to the sound the missile makes as its approaching Gunnison to get rid of the infestation the sound on the computer is the same sound as the device used to track the Alien on the Nostromo, noticeably when The Alien is making its way towards Dallas in the air shaft. Although in this film these "Links" were used to try and make that film better by associating it with the film we know and love.. We hear them and somehow link it to Alien....

MemberOvomorph12/14/2011Of course you have the typegraph of the name PROMETHEUS....and how it appears!

MemberOvomorph12/14/2011I think the end of this will setup the basis for Alien, however I'm curious to know how else they'll end the movie that leaves room for a sequel? I remember seeing Ridley suggesting there may be one.
Will they continue the same plot from Prometheus or will it be an entirely new story that excludes xenos?

MemberOvomorph12/14/2011usually ridley have never done sequels to his movies ...hard that start now at 74 ...and with the bladerunner sequel that will take almost the next 2-3 years .
i dont say that he will be too old ( i think one can film until 90 right now ) but is a matter of willing , strenght and other projects .

MemberOvomorph12/14/2011I think there are going to be prequels to Prometheus not sequels. I think Prometheus just might leave us with more questions than answers. The next movies if any would probably keep going back in time explaining the previous one.

MemberOvomorph12/15/2011I don't think this is as much a prequel as it is a side-story that takes place before Alien.
You can have new movies with different plots, different characters, and different creatures and have it based in the Alien universe.
A good example of this would be the movies Blade Runner and Soldier. Both movies take place in the same universe. Ridley Scott will probably do a much better job than Paul Anderson and I think Prometheus and Alien will be similar.

MemberOvomorph12/18/2011OK am going to ask the question, i saw the trailer as everyone else has, are we POSITIVE that's the space jockey rising throught the floor? because i don't think that leaked footage is anywhere near clear enough to tell. And don't say clearly or obviously lol because to me anyway, it's just not
