if there was a theoretical red button which would erase all prints, blurays and dvds of the movie everywhere on earth, would you press it? and which of the below would you choose for eternal termination: 1)AVP 2)AVP:2 Requiem 3)Ressurection 4)Alien 3 (bonus)

AvP was a fun movie. Plus, it wasn't intended to be taken seriously, so IMO, no harm done. It obviously wasn't intended to fit in canonically to the Alien stories (although say what you will about the Predator films. Predator 2 DID have a Xenomorph skull in it). AvPR was an atrocity though. Completely terrible, with no redeeming qualities, except maybe the Predators didn't suck so much in it, lol. Now, in terms of the actual canon, I enjoyed Alien Resurrection, but I personally discredit the legitimacy of anything that happened after Aliens. My personal belief is that Space Jockey's create Alien Queens based on their advanced biology, and Alien 3 discredits that by putting a queen in Ripley. I'm hoping that Prometheus proves me right (the description of the aliens featured in this movie gives me hope that I might be), but I'll admit that it's still a longshot. To answer your question, the only movie I didn't find a little bit enjoyable in your list was AvPR. However, Aliens was the last "great" movie xenomorphs were featured in. If a type of them appear in Prometheus, then maybe that'll change.

I dont think we have to do that. Those who dont like can ignore them. The AVPs have not been taken serious and as Cannon so they do no harm. I think AVP could have rocked if done right and if it was set in same timeline as Aliens/Alien 3 (well a little latter). But what you have when you make a film that contains two of the most iconic Aliens in Film you really have set a high expectation. A movie based around the PC Games especially the 2nd one released in 2001 with Primal Hunt Expantion pack (first see Pred Alien) then it could have worked. Prometheus is going to have its work cut out aswell, because it can have a effect as being a let down or have a plot that may not go well with Alien/Aliens. Some thought the idea of Ripleys Pregnant DNA being cloned to make Resurection was a bit of a let down idea. Well Prometheus's potential think outside box plot could also be risky.

1) The only interesting bit was Bishop's alter ego Charles Bishop Weyland (the first time Weyland-Yutani axcquired a face, and a very unexpected one, but the character was totally wasted, an interesting idea rendered worse than useless. He deserved a better and more thoughtful movie. everything else, OBLITERATE. 2) No redeeming qualities whatsoever. OBLITERATE. NUKE IT TILL IT GLOWS. 3)pretty bad, but not as much worse than Alien 3 as we are led to believe. THe Ripley/Queen hybrid and the room with failed versions of the first seven ripley/queen clones are truly creepy (even if they somewhat resemble the cocoon scene, back then still cut from Alien. MAYBE...NAH, OBLITERATE. 4)At the very beginning the Alien egg materializes aboard ship in a demonstrably impossible way. OBLIT...but wait, is it not Alien 3 that created one of the coolest ideas of the whole series, that aliens receive a genetic imprint depending upon which species they use as host? Otherwise, it was such a fest of nihilistic cruelty without hope that it would be the first choice movie of many suicides. After Cameron's cheesy 'family hope' conclusion, this was meaner than a skilletful of Beelzebubs. But it was boring in the banality of its roughness, just as Cameron may have been overly cheery

I only saw a small portion of AVP and never seen a second from AVPR, so for me they truly dont exist. For me, the rest of the movies are good.

No need to do that...Leave the 4 Alien movies as is. But GET rid of... Predator 2 (the Danny Glover abortion) AVP AVP2: Requiem Then you would just have Predator & Predators (w. Adrian Brody which is really a proper sequel to Arnie's movie) Then you once again have 2 separate franchises with their own mythos that doesnt interfere with the other.

First time posting... I hated the first AVP but actually liked the second. I laughed my ass off. It was the perfect bad movie you watch with your friends while getting drunk. I think it was harmless fun. The first tried too hard.

No need to nuke anything, they're not as bad as everyone here makes them out to be. Could they have been better? Sure, but they have a bad rep that they don't deserve on the forums. And why bring Predator 2 into it? Do you really think Predators was better than Predator 2? Predators is good but it didnt really expand on the mythology rather than haut mirror a lot of scenes from the first. All of the Alien, Predator and AVP movies are good. Some are classics and the rest are a good watch regardless of their flaws. Just my opinion though.

I always liked the second more too, but I went back and watched them both a few weeks ago and actually found the first to be the better of the two. The first feels a little closer to the original series. I think inhad high expectations for the first one going into the theater to see it. I think that's why they get a lot of hate more so because most people were expecting a whole lot more out if it and it fell short of those expectations.

That's the problem though if sequels are done to great films and turn a piece of classic cinema into fun popcorn they become parody's and lose all the respect they have built up over the years hence ridley 's quote that the xeno belongs in disney now .

I'm sure everyone has read a book and seen a film based on it that didn't live up to their expectations. I read first two Aliens comic series and first AVP comic series and thought they would make great movies. Unfortunately Aliens and AVP went in a completely different direction from the comics I loved and were a total disappointments. If anyone else has read these original Dark Horse comics I'm sure you feel that same way?

As much as I don't recognize any of the *vP films as part of the Alien franchise, if Alien 3 were to disappear, David Fincher's filmography would look all the more better...

Think for a moment how good ''ALIEN'' and ''Aliens'' are, then take another moment to think about ''PREDATOR'', got it , cool, the rest are bullshit, simple as that!

Edit: Predators SPOILER ALERT! I thought PredatorS was the worst of the lot. The god-awful homages to Predator aside, the film completely trashed the material. Splitting the species into two was stupid and the new species just looked stupid - and yet another dumb-ass human/alien alliance. P-lease! And what the hell was the point of the Larry Fishburne character, and now that I mention it, what the hell was Danny Trejo doing in that film. Oh oh and a barefoot yakuza dude draws with a fully laden predator??? Give me a gun. Predator 2 is Golddust compared to that pile of smouldering crap. Just erase Alien Resurrection, rewrite and reshoot Alien 3, and arrest the writers and directors of AvP:R for crimes against cinema. AvP 1 was almost OK. As mentioned, I hate human/alien alliances and the trailer had the best scenes of the film but I really bought the Charles Bishop Weyland character.

I enjoy all of them for what they are. I don't particularly care if they are not canonical.

It amazes me when people say "Alien is a classic, a masterpiece, but AVP is one of the worst films ever made". You do realise they were both written by the late, great Dan O'Bannon, and if it wasn't for him none of us would be here, discussing Prometheus.

Sure Snorkle... but I think of AVP as a good "popcorn" kind of flick to be kept separate from everything else. It works well as a short 90 minute stand alone story. Cheezy, sort of fun. I EVEN OWN IT. (But I dont own Predator 2, AVP Requiem or PredatorS) I think the problem for these movies is that it COMPLETELY DESTROY's any mystique the Xenomorph may have had left. It basically likens them to be nothing more than corn fed deer on a gated preserve being chased by big hillbilly hunters with big frikkin lay-sers.

@snorkel true but I don't think a writer can be blamed for how a movie turns out...I bet if you read the original Alien script it sounded like sheer B-movie nonsense (the character then gets attacked by an egg and something attaches to his face), it's all in the execution I really think these Strause ass*oles need to be banned from conventions and the such, the material was treated with utter disrespect, I don't care if they even meant well Im really happy Ridley is back in the driving seat even if he does mess up, at least he respects the alien and film making in general

both AVP's would go. Alien 3 and and 4 I would allow to live, but only as their own entities, never to be referred to as "Alien" canon again...

I would take AvP and Avp 2 and have them taken to the harvesting chamber where facehuggers would deposit drones into their bodies. After their merciless birthing, they would hunt down Alien Resurrection and butcher it with as much torment as possible. Alien 3 would be just fine.

Well Snorkelbottom, I think me and you are the only ones on here that would like to see AVP stay in the canon somehow and don't disown the films. I've said before in other threads sbout AVP thst I own both on Blu-Ray and give them a watch once in a while. Heck, i even have My digital copy of Requiem sitting in my iPad. The rest of you guys suck LOL. Really? Nuke them out of existence? Cant you guys show some love for the franchise? Haha (Jk, I respect your opinions, I don't like them but I respect them LoL) Seriously.? Nobody felt some joy when the Blonde chick got pinned to the wall by the Predator shuriken in the hospital? So much for getting the girl at the end of the movie.

Funny, I thought Alien3's remastered and extended cut was absolutely stunning !!! A Masterpiece even. I also LOVE what Cameron said to Fincher... at dinner with Weaver and Scott..."Dude, You Killed Hicks & Newt" ????????????? LMFAO !!!

If he hadn't killed them I don't think there would be so many people complaining about the film. I think Cameron summed up what eveybody was thinking. I haven't seen the remastered 3. Is it comparable to Highlander 2 and the Renegade Version of that movie, it's a totally different film and experience.

There are some brutal scenes in A3 (Newt's autopsy, Hick's smashed face from the EEV and the dog and/or ox chestbursters). Fincher's Zodiac film makes me lock the doors...creepy as hell.

@Alien DNA It is a very well polished and expanded edition of the original film that when viewed on a decent enough system will leave you breathless in just how beautiful a film it is. It explains so much, they filled in all the holes, made some fantastically wonderful changes and actually did it as a tribute to what Finchers original vision was in respect for the man and in light of the theatrical release which he refused to attach his name to and The suits at Fox did anyways.

I saw it on HBO when I was a kid back in the day, it's the first in the series that I saw. I liked it and had no complaints. I've seen it a few more times, but not as many times as the first two. Is the remastered version on the blu-ray set of the quadrilogy?

its so well made that if you have a copy from the Quadrilogy set and play it in surround sound with a good LCD you will be amazed...The Death scenes were expanded and enhanced and contain some of the best footage IMO from all 4 films! The camera work in the tunnels is awe inspiring, and the story is much more complete so the entire experience is far superior to that of the theatrical release and the better your system the more you will notice.

I wouldn't destroy any of them (as much as I despise AVP:R). They should be left there as an eternal mark of shame (especially for the Strause Bros). But in order to do justice to the orginal canon and creatures, it would be awesome if the red button replaced the aliens in the AVP movies with Freddy Krueger clones, Edward Cullens or Gummi Bears, as it would make much more sense. My greatest desire, though, would be for the red button to turn Alien 3 into what Fincher was envisioning.
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born. Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.

@Alien DNA...the fact that you have a useless gadget such as the iPad says it all...people who like fads like iPads tend to also like Michael Bay and AVP:Requiem...
