want-to-see-prometheusNOW!
MemberOvomorphApr-04-2012 9:44 AMI only have 3 wishes before the end of my life. One is that I can have kids, two is that we discover life on another planet, and three that I can see Prometheus.

MemberOvomorphApr-04-2012 10:00 AM"We only have to look at ourselves to see how intelligent life might develop into something we wouldn’t want to meet," Hawking said. "I imagine they might exist in massive ships ... having used up all the resources from their home planet. Such advanced aliens would perhaps become nomads, looking to conquer and colonize whatever planets they can reach.”
Stephen Hawking on Alien life. And I agree with him.

No matter how much one may mean well, in the end, a life form's first priority is his own survival.

MemberOvomorphApr-04-2012 10:29 AMalien life yes i think there are possible hundreds of planets out there with life on some maybe humanoid possible even speak a laungage we could understand !
but the issue is they are billions oof years away so even if we sent a signal to them or they to us but the time it got here we or them would be extinct !
faster than light travel? maybe
I remember reading some where that id we accelorate as fast as well can , coping with the g forces involved it would take a hundred plus years to get anywhere near light speed .
g force dampeners ? are a posibilty but how many thousands of years away are we from having the technology to create them ?
worm hole technology ? mmmm I have yet to hear a working plausably theroy on that
but !!!!!
the speed in which the human race has evovled over the passed 100 years is beyond all belief so theres always hope ;)

MemberOvomorphApr-04-2012 10:32 AMSnapper is right. Discovery is one thing. Getting there is another. If there is a species capable of traveling to Earth which hasn't allready made itself obvious we should hope that we are not important enough for them to even take notice.

MemberOvomorphApr-04-2012 10:37 AMwhy do i have a feeling that aliens are not going to be monsters... even if we ever found life on alien land (which is like going to take us thousands of years) what would we do next? talk to them ... steal their technology ??? phew just asking

MemberDeaconApr-04-2012 11:27 AMWell for a plannet to support life as we know it, even simple life like say a Cockroach it needs a fair amount of criteria to be checked off.
One other big important criteria is a satilite body like our Moon.
So i dont think we will find any proof complex life anytime soon, unless they visit us.

MemberOvomorphApr-04-2012 2:49 PMA simple statement of Einstein's relativity is that the laws of physics are the same everywhere in the universe. The chemistry of living organisms will be that same as they are here on earth so it makes sense that other planets will have similar life forms. The basic building blocks of life, as the exist on the earth, have been detected in interstellar gas clouds. As above so below. It is reasonable to think that the universe has a fractal structure.

MemberOvomorphApr-04-2012 2:52 PMI think that a sizeable moon is required to create the tidal forces that keep the core of the planet liquid so that it can have a large magnetic field to shield the planet from the solar wind. Mars does not have a magnetic field so its atmosphere was blown away by the solar wind as its surface is blasted by high doses of radiation.
