@Neurion ->Nice to see you and happy Easter/Passover to you and yours and also, did you read this ENTIRE thread.? Just curious if you read my initial comment? You were disappointed in The Star Wars sags...?... I was too...but NOT at all with regard to the FIRST 3 FILMS.. Same for the Jones Trilogy...?...I thought the first 3 Films were ALL WICKED, number 3 went over the line a bit though I agree and 4 was ridiculous. BladeRunner was absolutely stunning the first time I saw it, think it has a deplorable replay value though and the more you have seen that directors cut the more BORING it gets. Just so you see I am a fair and impartial guy and call 'em like I see 'em. Had a crush though for many years on that actress he kills in it who he chases through the streets while she dances around the city in her freaking stupid plastic ballerina outfit. Think she did a bunch of bit parts I have seen her in including some Stephen King Film roles. Lastly If all of your wishes aren't fulfilled X-Mas morning, I will redeem your price of admission to the film.
Edit: I agree completely and totally with everything you sad about Kingdom of Heaven, have watched it over and over again and my observations are EXACTLY THE SAME AS YOURS ON THAT ONE. Found it to be so UNLIKE Ridley to release a film like that and think he was using it as a major experiment in the end to test the responses of theater goers!!!

I don't think its possible to create a historically accurate film from events that happened that long ago despite what historians say most don't agree with each other anyway .The historians that reflect on the film on the extras seem to think its a good portrayal of the period with a few inaccuracies but then again what film does ?. I never get my history lessons from hollywood . You could say the same about Brave heart but its still a reasonably good film.
the comingApril 07, 2012
yes but the films that 'blew' were in my opinion the non sci-fi ones...hannibal (due to Julianne Moore more than Ridley)...robin hood...and as someone else said, he made Alien, my favourite one of the lot
saying that I do have concerns over the minority report graphics and archaeology angle, as it is done to shiit, and I feel Ridley thinks he is being original when simply he has not kept up with recent sci-fi movie trends...but hey, I believe the man is a genius when it comes to executing mediocre ideas...
Put it this way, I will not be surprised if it is a 4/10 movie, nor if it is 10/10

alteredstate.April 07, 2012
Hannibal was a pretty lame book as well in comparison to red dragon and silence of the lambs, good for three quarters of the book but the last quarter was absurd.

i saw blde runner when i was still a kid ....we went to the drive in to watch "Raiders of the lost arc".....wich i loved....but we got their a bit early and I saw the last half of blade runner....their was a scene where a guys head gets squashed by presumably an android....that really kinda freaked me out as a kid...and i also remember Darryl Hannah as some person with lots of white makeup...that's all i can remember about blade runner ...unless i am confusing it with some other movie...I just remember that i thought it was super weird and a bit disturbing...that along with the guys head melting in Raiders later that night....those scenes gave me nightmares ..lol
ShaneApril 07, 2012
If it is awful I'll just get my money back. Most blockbusters around here have a "You will love it or get your money back" deal.
I've gotten my cash back for a few things. I figure if a movie wastes my time I might as well get something back for it.

Biehn_BanditApril 07, 2012
I watched the Robin Hood director's cut. Another one where the criticism didn't sync with what I was seeing on screen. It wasn't brilliant, but I watched it with 3 other people and, yes Maximus, we were entertained.
I don't know, something about Ridley Scott sword movies just clicks with me. I'm pretty much bored by all of his movies set in modern times, except for Black Hawk Down.

RuhaniyaApril 07, 2012
YOU KNOW...This movie is not going to Blow. It can't with enough snorks from the Maxi Toke....If it does I QUIT. They won't get another cent out of my wallet! I will never watch another movie again. Eh hey EH! No really I'm tired of being let down with movies...

Hi Spartacus,
Thanks for the Holiday wishes…same to you.
Yeah, I absolutely love the original STAR WARS and EMPIRE STRIKES. Didn’t care for RETURN OF THE JEDI much, and was thoroughly disappointed with the prequels. I did however like the concept of Darth Maul, thought that Ewan Macgregor did a pretty good young Kenobi…and enjoyed Ian McDiarmid’s portrayal of Palpatine in Episode III.
I adore Raiders of the Lost Ark, thought TEMPLE OF DOOM was too childish and cheesy. Last Crusade was a slight improvement, but Crystal Scull killed the franchise for me.
The BLADE RUNNER woman I think you’re referring to, is Joanna Cassidy as Salome…the snake dancer. Yeah…she was kinda hot. BLD RNR is not a perfect film…but I just dig it. I Probably have seen it too many times. But, I really have to be in the right mood/frame of mind to watch it…so much atmosphere.
I hope you’re right about PROMETHEUS. I’d love for the ALIEN universe to be redeemed by it. That would be so FUCKING BITCHIN! A worthy companion to accompany the original ALIEN…as I mentally cuddle up to both pieces, like a warm blanket…in my imagination.
Peace,
~N

LOL hilarious.
If it ends up being held up to the standard of some of those on this forum, well I don't think it will, or even COULD satisfy everyone. There is so much hype attached to this film now that RS could give us Lawrence of Arabia in Space and someone wouldn't be happy with it. In end it's only a movie. Hopefully, a damn good science fiction movie that will give us patient fans an entirely new canon to follow and fill our dreams with. That's really all we will hope for. Those of you that have decided to settle on nothing short of a semi-religious experience on-screen, I hope you get what you want.
We will see! Nothing but time will tell.

HellFieldApril 07, 2012
I think it will go either way for the audience. Some of us are so completely in love with the bits of mythology in the first Alien that Prometheus couldn't possibly live up to it unless Prometheus was 2 hours of amazing out-takes from Alien that we all never knew existed as a parallel movie. Then there those of us who really want something new and flashy with different actors looked distressed and sweaty. So, I say it will really please only half us us anyway. Get ready to be pissed off or blown away - and nothing in between.

enceladus_is_aliveApril 07, 2012
“What if it blows” is a very legit concern.
From the trailers you have the same old…
Jump in a ship, fly to another planet, in hypersleep. (We’ve seen that over and over in sci-fi)
Spaceship flies through an atmosphere and lands. (Seen that one many times before).
Flame throwers as weapons. (nothing new).
Nasty creatures chasing humans. (ok that’s expected for sci-fi horror).
Things growing in bellies. (Watched that one a few times).
A company that cannot be trusted. (Not new)
But wait..we have cave hieroglyphics and ancient cultural tries. (Very deep? - Not new)
And more of the same from 150 seconds of trailer bits and pieces.
And a dark disk over a waterfall with a changing arm super imposed. (2001 attempt there?)
I sure hope this movie has something new and not just the same basic plot, but for a new generation of viewers and a small piece of meat for older viewers.

Just watched the interview and the trailer for "snow white" Juxtapose!!!

@ Neurion
Thanks jujst for taking the time and getting back to me, "Love your suit"-spoken like Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lector and I say it that way t maKe you laugh but what I mean is I loved what you wrote again, all of it.
@enceladus_is_alive I respect your opinion as I do MW3's and perhaps you are correct maybe I was too rough and I could have worded some of it much better, I meant no offense but at the same time I am entitled to my own opinion as well.
Also I very much agree with you on the "2001'ish" intro.

alteredstate.April 07, 2012
Its the older viewers that will be the hardest to please because they have seen so much before and i for one want something fresh and stimulating to rekindle my faith in hollywood's ability to create unique and original stories.

One word for those that say Ridley is unable to make a shity movie.---->G.I Jane. LOLOLOLOL!!
That said, I think his reputation is riding on this movie and he won't let us down, hoepfully. xx
Bishop is Bae <3

Biehn_BanditApril 07, 2012
G.I. Jane still had those great SEAL training scenes. Viggo Mortensen owned that shit, as they say.

SvanyaApril 07, 2012
OH god yes, the training was sexxi as hell BUT it was a terrible movie. Black Hawk down was breathtaking tho.

Glad u watched that snow white trailer and interview and also enjoyed it....it's no Prometheus but it certainly looks like a very high budget popcorn-lord of the rings-inspired dark retelling of the tale..promising to be a thrill ride .....nothing wrong with that ....and their is no question that Miss Theron will own that movie......she is so wickedly spectacular!....now i cannot wait for her portrayal of the weird and enigmatic Meridith Vickers!

jenskarlssonApril 08, 2012
i dont think it can "blow." it might not be the same as expectations etc, but i have no doubt it will be great. already i am dissapointed by the possibility that the alien pilot/space jockey/engineer could be a more human like creature in a space suit, but
im not worried about things like that - i am very confident that it will be great even if it does things that i dont personally agree with. i think, much like Alien, it has the complete picture - great writers, one of the best directors in the world, what appears to be an excellent cast, excellent visuals etc. i think no matter how it turns out it will be something wonderful. i dont care if it has time travel, or if the space jockey turns out to be mickey mouse, or if eric the red brings alien eggs to earth in a flying viking ship with madonna onboard singing lucky star- somehow this team will make that work ;)
its clear from the trailers that this will be fantastic. it looks a little more action adventure than i would prefer but i will be very surprized if i dont enjoy it no matter what the plot elements are. also i think the very concepts that are being delt with in the story are far too insteresting for a great team like this to make a poor movie of it.

I bought the new issue of EMPIRE magazine; awesome holographic cover and great coverage of Prometheus. The cast give their perspective on the movie and Sir Ridley Scott answers all the questions you could ever ask! Definitely worth the cash:
