next time please read what you wrote before posting it because that was tough to get through.

If it blows, you get up, leave the theatre, and wait for the next movie that looks like it coud be something special. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Simple huh?

If it blows I will still have my VHS/DVD/Blu-Ray collections of Alien movies to drown my sorrows in.
On the bright side, there would be a new trend of discussions on how bad P was and how much comparable to AVP:R it was, and a wealth of new reasons to start trolling forums and youtube.
At least we will remember a great viral campaign and we'll share good memories about the anticipation it built.
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born.
Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.

@mw3
your grammar blows!....their is a little spell-checker...it's very handy...use it.
But I get what u saying...though i seriously doubt that it will blow....at the same time i don't think everyone is gonna be pleased....some are gonna walk out of the theater in absolute awe and praise the movie and some are gonna be disappointed... I think the latter will be in the minority....
Lost was a great show when it started out....but it just carried on for to long and the plot got completely lost....I don't think Prometheus will go in that direction...I think with Ridley as director.... he will know where to steer it....i am expecting a few twists and surprises and a slightly more complicated plot than most movies....but i don't think it will be another inception or Space Odyssey...those were'nt bad movies...but those plots was a bit too confusing IMO....

@Biomechanic
hahaha quality
Never watched 'Lost' or was even interested in seeing it but I'm putting my faith in Ridley, Cast and crew.

I know Cameron and Scott have mutual respect for each other,but there is ego involved here on a professional level.Avatar was a huge success,so I doubt that anyone would want to risk a bad film.But one other thing,Ridley wanted to do the prequel for a long time,and as an artist,I doubt he would abandon that because the suits told him no.It is possible that the distance he is letting on about a new movie is more or less a smoke screento the studio.Director's of his stature can get things done in private on a film.

Mark CawleyApril 07, 2012
Course it wont blow............theres that much hype the whole world will go see it........bums on seats remember.
Plus we get a little bit more info about the origins rather than the queen alien and bloody predators.
The INTENDED origins.

Disappointment is the gap between expectation and reality,Hope is Faith with a track record.RS has a fantastic track record,and he made Alien.I will say that again ,he made Alien.Anything that even gets close in any way to that film has got to be worth the price of a ticket.If it turns out to be a replicant so be it,the suits won.
RSANDApril 07, 2012
After all of these years I seriously doubt RS would put anything substandard on the screen. He waited a long time to make this one and I think this was well thought out.
Will it satisfy our individual expectations? Who knows?

DutchApril 07, 2012
Ridley Scott has been storyboarding this film in his mind for more than 30 years. All that talk in the past about not doing science fiction because there weren't any good ideas...made me smile then as it does now.
He's not coming back for simply the money....he's back to reclaim his vision and crank the world.
Hard.

"Biomechanic: James Cameron I know it's you”.
@Biomechanic
Man, that really made me laugh.
@mw3
You actually make some very interesting points and express what I think are fair concerns - but I'd say you should really think about the way you treat your language and the language you use?
I wouldn't normally get into this space with someone I don't know and I apologise for doing so - but I have actually interpreted the meaning in what you wrote: and it seems clear from that, that you actually owe it to yourself to express your ideas better - because, on this basis, those ideas do have value, and it's a shame.
Scott tends towards visuals - but he has a passion for trying to convey "realism", or plausibility. He, perhaps more than many Directors, does seem to require the help of a really, really excellent script to prevent everything being about the pictures.
Lindelof tends toward fantasy - but he does knows how to spin a yarn and he produces superb, natural and realistic dialogue. He seems to require someone with a firm grip to steady him, just a bit.
If they both work to their strengths and play down their excesses, that could be an excellent combination.
It's a shame you thought Bladerunner "boring".
I just think it thoughtful - as rooted in ideas as the book it was based on.
Personally speaking.

Lost Template:
A team runs off into the forest unprepared.
Another team decides to go rescue them.
Both teams encounter unusual/creative things, although you will seriously question whether the writer made the effort to go beyond shock, unusualness, and creativeness, and tie these findings together in a remotely coherent way. You will ask hundreds of questions about the few seconds of what the audience was shown with few answers provided and millions of tangents made. You are at the mercy of the writer’s disconnectedness and the limited amount of camera time.
Eventually, you reach a point where it is not is no longer interesting and has become a pile of spaghetti of visual and auditory scenes, which you just don’t care to waste mental energy on and find better things to do.
Hope this one is better.

All Opinions are always welcome and mine is that personally I find it wildly offensive and no less so than racism or prejudice given what we know are facts and assuming everyone who is smart enough to register and get on here is smart enough to consider and understand, even if just a little bit, what the film making process entails. The Late Dan O'Bannon, Ridley Scott, H R Giger, and others to numerous to enumerate here have spent the better part of their lives dedicated to the universe in which this film is set to take place. It's Director, is now in what some say is the "twilight" of his career. The truth is he has never been more sound of mind and body and at around 70 he could probably skate circles around 23 year old NHL superstar Sidney Crosby. As far as his credentials go in this genre the man is the definitive single most acclaimed director in mankind's history, and ONLY ONE other has ever come close or surpassed this perceived level of expertise at which Scott now finds himself...and that was the late Stanley Kubrik. For someone to say these words...to even consider their meaning in a phrase linking them together..."What If It Blows?" IMO, you have to be kind of lost !!! There is zero chance of that. we have been proven this OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN. The most recent the other day when what is undeniably the single best science fiction movie trailer in the history of cinema was released to the public. The Full Length HD Trailer for Prometheus!!! After what is rumored to be the largest budget for any science fiction film in history between 175 and 225 Million Dollars was alotted and it's progress tracked across the internet for the past 18 months with millions hanging on every update, it is unfathomable at this point that a director with the knowledge and appreciation for film such as Scott would review and then still allow what was essentially a misguided or bad film project to be released to the public with his name on it. before first being severely adjusted or dumped all together.

I bow my head and give a slow, generous clap of appreciation to Spartacus for his brilliant response...could not have said it better.

SpartacusApril 07, 2012
& MW3...I have absolutely NO Hatred for you, just think you just have been a bit confused to write what you did...I do not think there is any reason what so ever for you to worry so much you felt you needed to make it official, your concern that is, by announcing it. To me that's "stinkin' thinkin'"as Stuart Smalley would have said.
He is not a licensed therapist as you probably already know.

@ Sparky
Nice to see you so passionate again....actually I suppose u have always been...there is so many new people on here i lose track....nice to see some old timers like myself...got a new job and it's murder....too much to do!....so I have not been coming here as often as before...
Anyway what is considered a large movie budget these days?.....Read a recent interview with Ridley where he said that it was actually quite cheap to make the movie....he tried to steer clear of to many cg effects....unlike James in Avatar...not that he blasted James....he sounded almost like he was in admiration of his patience....but 225 million....i doubt it was that much?.....i think that fox cut the cost to 150 million after they basically rewrote the plot or expanded on it with Damon...
....but anyway if the trailers is anything to go by...their seems to be plenty of spectacular effects involved...plus i read that the people who cut the trailers was not even allowed access of the last 12 minutes of the movie....thats where the Alien DNA is supposed to play a major part.....I seriously cannot stop watching all the trailers...even without those 12 minutes...it looks.....I dunno words cannot describe.....but just goose flesh all over....every-time....lol

craigamoreApril 07, 2012
I get the same goosbumps Juxtapose...I play them so much that I think my family is ready to kill me....

SpartacusApril 07, 2012
amazing info on the whole thing Juxtapose thanks so much and thank you for sharing that info...amazing tidbit about the last 12 mins man. Incidently Now here is something from the Alien Franchise I think "Blows", and Ridley Scott had 100% of NOTHING to do with it. LMFAO.

I actually close the door so they don't hear me playing it....AGAIN!!!...it's like I cannot go threw a fucking day without watching it.....is this behavior abnormal?....witch is your favorite trailor....i love the one with Charlize in the beginning about the king .....thats my favorite and for some reason that TV spot 3 add with Noomi screaming at the end ......DIIIEEEEE!....that bit....i love it!

alteredstate.April 07, 2012
the derelict craft itself and the appearance of the sj in the trailers is enough to justify the quoted dna of alien.

JuxtaposeApril 07, 2012
@ Sparky...well i also just read that somewhere....dunno how accurate it is....i mean about the last 12 minutes....tho it does make sense!...and yes that picture of the alien-baby thing in resurrection.....so not a good concept...it's a fucking deformed zombie ....not an alien...sigh!...;)

SpartacusApril 07, 2012
you guys are giving me goosebumps by just describing those moments. That's it, pouring a beer and Jacking up the surround, watching it again.

JuxtaposeApril 07, 2012

craigamoreApril 07, 2012
I love that full length trailer, but I think it's day to day for me; there's this haunting elegance to the UK trailor and of course, there's the spine tingling BRMMM..BRMMMMM....BRMMMMMMM of the teaser that just gets me giddy as a school boy all over again..

SpartacusApril 07, 2012
@jextapose will do, have been meaning to, read an article online about it the other day.
@Craigmore, the other trailers are really really good too, I particularly love the International one.

@mw3
I think you ask a valid question. Contrary to some other opinions, I think that PROMETHEUS could very well end up a stinker…especially for what’s being expected of it. Obviously, just about every member of our little club here, is a serious ALIEN fan…to one degree or another. The problem is that people have different tastes, plain and simple.
For instance, I think that KINGDOM OF HEAVEN is a bad film…that’s beautifully shot, costumed, and cast. It was pretty well made. However, when compared to the actual history, it’s unrealistic, corny, and fraught with politically correct lies and agendas. Plus, it’s kind of a snore. And the score…scavenged together from other films like THE CROW and THE 13th WARRIOR. But, many other members of this site enjoy and even love that flick. I wish I could…as not to tarnish Sir Ridley’s record.
BLADE RUNNER is one of my favorite films, yet bombed hard in the box office.
PROMETHEUS might end up being “right up my alley”…but be crap in somebody else’s opinion.
To actually answer your question, I will be very disappointed...as I am with the direction the STAR WARS, INDIANA JONES, and MATRIX sagas went. Oh well, it's only a movie.
We’re all gonna go to the theatre that day with our own personal wish lists…and as you know, not every kid is satisfied on Christmas morning. I just selfishly hope that at least I will be.

...for me the international one is the best....i just wish i can get a download with slightly better quality...." a king has his reign.... and then he dies....it's inevitable"....what does that mean?....and the "cut it off!!!!... cut it off....!" part always gets my hairs standing on end.....when Noomi is standing their all sweaty in her underwear and she blows a saliva bubble threw her mouth while she clamps her hands together....darn she reminds me so much of Ripley....she even looks like Ripley in that scene ...I am beginning to see why Ridley chose her as the heroin...or the new Ripley as many has described her character....

JuxtaposeApril 07, 2012
@ spartucus oh u must check out Snowwhite....it really is the only other movie I am truly anticipating this year.....with Prometheus being the main big one of-cause!

Biehn_BanditApril 07, 2012
I think the director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven is one of Ridley's best films, and I didn't even care for the theatrical version. Besides Orlando Bloom in the role, I saw nothing corny about it. Whether it's historically accurate or not is of no concern to me. That's not the purpose of drama. As far as the 'historical' fiction genre, it beats the pants off of any other Hollywood film in the last 10 years, although I heard the director's cut of Alexander is a similar leap in quality over the original release.
But that's besides the point. I have a very good track record at assessing something's' quality or appeal based on a few previews, and I have no doubt Prometheus will be awesome, and the most sophisticated and important of the summer blockbusters. But if it sucks, then it sucks. There's always Cosmopolis and Django Unchained.
