i think the disposition , shape and size of the urns is a bit too similar to the eggs to not have some kind of relation .

@Frantz Maybe the urns slowly transform into eggs? or they could serve the same purpose they used in alien as a means of infecting people with an Alien organism?

The whole idea originally conceived by Sir Ridders was that the Alien eggs were a bio weapon transported by the SJ race to wipe out life on other planets in order to steal their resources. Now that's not to say that is the intention plot wise this time I am merely repeating SRS is all. IMO the eggs were already there hence (as you say) the defence mech (prob to defend themselves) and I always assumed one had somehow managed to escape and latch on to the main SJ hence the crash of the ship. Well part of the fun of speculating is being wrong and I'm just about to have 25 years of that theory blown out of the 'god damn airlock'!

Here is what I think, I think Frantz is real close, I think the only thing is this...An Egg is like a Living Thing, an urn is not but may contain one. I believe like in the same old 2nd leaked plot outline which I loved. The URNS can be programmed to produce an Egg, or a whole lot of other living things...at the whim of any of the Engineers. I think the Eggs were PUT under the Derelict on LV-426 After it got stranded there... by some other Engineers..they put them there...other than the Jockey that is, who HEEDED THE DERELICT'S WARNING SIGNAL MEANT EXCLUSIVELY FOR THEM, traveled there to fix whatever went wrong AND was SET OFF BY THE PILOT JOCKEY TO LET THEM KNOW THE SHIP HAD BEEN COMPROMISED EN ROUTE TO EARTH AND TO SEND HELP OR PROTECTION.

This is a very interesting question. (I particularly enjoyed your suggestion of the alien, “saving people to eat later", by the way). Correlation does not imply Causation: so, I'm going to say, "Made". This whole business seems to be about manufacturing; meddling with things and changing what was, into what it was not - so, I do not think they will be any “laying”, as such. “Laying”, requires you to have something to do that job, which, [while I could be wrong], I get the distinct impression the Authors would want to move this story away from. If that case is correct, why attempt to distance the need for a beast that lays eggs, only to re-introduce a beast that lays eggs? While I say I think the eggs are made, I do not say by [i]whom[/i] they are made, nor whether that creation was by design, or by accident. That would allow for the possibility that the eggs we know are the very first of their kind - unique and unprecedented. Perhaps they are programmed with a life cycle, requirements and purposes that are all of their own - and perhaps not even understood in any sense by the creatures they will eventually produce, whether they are intelligent, or not. Maybe, the eggs are so strange and unpredictable, they are even beyond the reason of those who would have had the power to create them, if they [i]did[/i] create them. That appeals to me more than having it that the eggs, exactly what they produce, what their purpose might be, or exactly what they're good for – are all predetermined or understood in advance. I thought this was gonna be about some of the obsessives here finally getting some real-time gratification outside of this board...... Eggs....fer f**s sake.......

@Sparty, But that fake plot line wasn't even a "fake plot line". It was fan fiction that was first seen here on these forums waaaaay back. I even remember the author that posted it said it was completely made up. He had no intention of it ever being confused with the actual plot. He even came back after his fan-fic plot was posted all over media sites and re-stated that it was created by him only as fan-fic. (Wish i would have saved the page/post.... i just didn't think his fan-fic would be taken this far.)

Well we just may find out in the movie or not. We could go on with the whole Chicken or Egg, which in our real evolution came first? To me the thing in the urns/ampules does look a bit like maybe Proto Eggs. The thing David pulls out has 4 sections, like he was pulling out say a Banana Skin? Now the Eggs in Alien/Aliens open up like how a Banana peels.
