MemberOvomorphApr-14-2012 8:08 AMJust wondering if anyone has any further info on this. I know the fake APC in Aliens was actually built around a working Airport Tug, and it got me thinking just out of curiosity.
I suppose there is also the possibility they spent millions to make these from scratch from the ground up, but I think the RT01 has actual real world APC written all over it.

I know some of this was filmed on sound stages in Canada. I first thought that perhaps they had acquired some former Canadian decommissioned armoured vehicle chasis. Our DND has recently been donating some older obsolete stuff to African Union countries for UN type peacekeeping work, and I know that some have even gone to local police forces such as the RCMP.But then I thought that does not make sense as I dont the government would give any to a Movie production!
But the more I looked at, I am pretty sure these things are built on the existing chasis of surplus old Soviet BTR's.

Anyone know for sure?? Has any other info on the RT01 been released anywhere?
Edit.. Oh.. found another pic on Google. Wow, look at this old hulk somewhere in Poland I think. Yep.... I think that is it. Looks like basically same proportions and spacing of road wheels and axels....

So BTR series it is then?
Hmmmm... That could be a good lucrative future gig for whatever fabrication outfit put it together I think.
Find some old Soviet crap for 10 grand or less ((they made tens of thousands of them over the course of 40 years!)).. cut off whats useless with a torch.. Bolt and screw on "Prometheus" Recreation Vehicle "Coach".. and sell to very wealthy geeks.
What about Asking Price??... $500,000 & up??

It's exactly the same.

Maybe one day after this movie's release, someone will have the info to put together something like that on what went in to creating the vehicles for Prometheus.

MemberOvomorphMay-27-2012 5:44 AMIf I'm not mistaken it is a TATRA 813, to be sure I need to see the suspension , other other vehicle could be the SKOT OT64, with TATRA engine, Wilson semi-autogear box from the London Routemaster (red) bus. But I bet its an 813....

Whilst at work at the airport i did notice someone had put a notice up about what they think it is,... unusal i know but there was a prize :L
Well i have to say i walked around and saw another airport vehicle that looked like something they used. As we all know previously a tug was used to make the vehicle in an alien film but this time i saw a vehicle which with a little modification is it as follows
