The title had me gripped, the proof is in the pudding as they say but if I had to bet I'd say it will deliver.

For me, it's a confluence of so many things:
- The first inklings of this film being made already had me dead set on seeing the film. I would have seen Prometheus even if no marketing was ever done, this forum never existed, etc.
- The Alien mythology
- The Prometheus myth and how it would tie it in to the Alien universe
- The director
- The great cast and crew working in concert with this director
- The chance to see ideas and themes that were initially intended for Alien, but cut due to budget constraints, now be finally realized.
And so many more.
Fall down seven times, get up eight.

The fact that this movie ties in
With the original alien movie and
Focusses on the Space jockey instead
On the xenos just gripes me totally.

Over on LV426.com, an article caught my attention. I'll quote something interesting I read:
"With Glimpses of the Space Jockey and the face of the planet of what will become LV426 this makes a lot of people very very excited!!"
Is it true (or just speculation) that the planet Prometheus visits is (will become) LV426 making the sj ship quite possible the derelict ship in Alien?

I think jones pretty much summed it all up for us.
Im a Ridley Scott fan i thoroughly enjoy his work, his attention to detail.
In the past interviews with him talking about Prometheus he actually seems very passionate about this project. He almost seems as excited as we are awaiting its release.
He will convey his passion through the screen. Another point the cast itself seem equally excited even tho they cant say anything about the movie.
It seems clear once you have a devoted cast, passionate director with RS's caliber and skillset we can tell this wont be just another hollywood release. But a film that will redefine film boundaries and will stay with us years to come

I have the same point of view about the caliber of artists.
To emphasize one other point, the retelling of an old story. Someone mentioned Ol' Brother Where Art Thou. It is a movie based on Odyssus, but it was set in the great depression and a comedy. I must have watched that movie more than 10 or 15 times. These old stories have survived for so long because they are good.
Oh, and there is always the simulacrum angle that is cool.

@abordoli....I hate to brake it you, but the 3D preview in London last week confirmed it's not LV-426, but a planet dubbed LV-223....
To the topic.....
'Prometheus' brims with natural potential for a few reasons.
1 - The simple fact of Ridley Scott returning to the Alien franchise. 'Alien' is my favorite movie...end of story...and the idea of Scott directing a second film in that universe.....well, it has the ten year old in me positively giddy.
2 - That fact that this prequel...and it is a prequel...shifts focus to the long mistifying SpaceJockey of 'Alien' and that the film takes its own direction after some rather disappointing sequels....it's a relevation....It's about time we saw something new and that this something new comes from Scott, rather than just another director tossed on to the end of the franchise's directorial lineup is something truly special....
3 - With all of that said, looking at the film's visuals and experiencing one trailer at a time, each instantly absorbing and fundamentally arresting to the viewer, it has been a very long time since any science fiction piece has looked so promising...and, on top of that, the fact that 'Prometheus' is also a horror film....we haven't seen a true sci-fi/horror with this kind of potential since Carpenter's 'The Thing' and that's saying something......

our expectations.....Howdy dooty got wood n balls

Its interesting because its the first professionally backed SERIOUS Sci-Fi/Horror movie to be produced in YEEAARRRRRRSSS!!!
The fact that it also happens to be the "backstory" to one of the most highly regarded Sci-Fi films of all time makes it a must see !!
And thankfully, our glimpses so far do in fact confirm that it is an absolutely stunningly beautiful LOOKING film.
If the story is half as good as how it looks, it will be destined to become at least a top 10 film in this genre.

Well, we don't have to worry about wonky bits, like the cut between real/dummy Ash's head. The CGI looks amazing. I'll be totally shocked if they nailed the director, cast, art, effects and marketing but somehow managed to FUBAR the story. At this point, I think optimism for another classic is warranted.
I do hope they give due credit to Giger, because even though some details have been alterred, there are clearly a lot of art assets in this film which are directly lifted from or inspired by, his creativity.
