Those are just Winamp visualizations. The crew loves techno and trance music.

Im assuming you mean the bottom left image of the main screen. I could be anything at all, it couls some sort of partice image of what happening inside the reactor of the ship or the engine matter / anti -matter mix profile or if they are traveling at several times the speed of light then it might some sort of extrapolated view out the window. The center image looks a bit like a nebula.

@Juston Yeah, you can be part of the trip mechanism and @"thereyouareJonesy" yes, I recognize the ambiguous nature of the image, in fact it could be anything as you say, the reactor, or extrapolation of the velocity product of light . But anyway it is still interesting .... and LMAO @jones Yeah! Maybe they're dancing trance music before landing LOL

im not sure if using a worm hole can be described as a way of traveling faster than light because your really exploiting extra spatial dimensions and traversing through rather than over the curvature of space-time without having to break the light speed barrier, your actual speed would remain sub-luminal.

@"thereyouareJonesy" in this case that would only be a shortcut, and if we know that the prometheus cieramente travels at the speed of light.
On the other hand maybe they hit a planet at the speed of light but then they encounter a black hole (obviously unplanned) but is only a speculation and IMHO.

@Shambhala,
Just out of frame, David is doing the robot.

Yeh the ship breaks the barrier using matter / anti matter reaction ! i read that somewhere or another. I dont think that this film will get all time travely it can be a easy fix solution, i would hope for a more cleverly constructed script than that.

@"thereyouareJonesy"
Can you remember where you read that?
I'm really interested to know how they address the velocity issue as Scott is so into plausibility and they cover this distance, somehow, in about 2 1/2 years.
My understanding is that they suggest they will exceed Light-speed, while in Normal Space.
I'm curious to know how they plan to [fictionally] do that.

LOL @jones very funny video, I hope that we can see David at a party before landing and @"thereyouareJonesy" yeah certainly it is very unlikely that it is a wormhole, just was curious about the photo and that's all.

that matter antimatter thing was written in the fake script that even AICN reviewed ...fake script confirmed by Lindelof itself
April 20, 2012
@Frantz Yeah, If indeed this fake script was denied for a long time, just felt curious about the photo image but certainly could be anything (very ambiguous)

Hey they might go the Mass Effect route being able to alter the weight of matter with element zero. The investors page on Weyland site shows some strange elements not currently on our table.
April 20, 2012
@MidnightHorrors Interesting point, LOL in fact I hope that Mr. Ridley Scott is played Mass Effect sometime in their life.

FTL doesnt necessarily means they're actually traveling faster than light ala Mass Effect or Star trek. It's also used as a term for any kind of travel that covers distances farther than those traveled by light. But its interesting you mention ME because I saw the Science behind Mass Effect and Dr Michio Kaku mentions that there is something similar to element zero called negative matter, which allows the creation of wormholes. The closer you travel to the speed of light, the more mass you acquire. There is nothing that can prevent that. A matter/antimatter might power a vessel to the speed of light, but without a way to alter your mass to normal, you will be crushed by the pressure like in deep sea. Mass effect solved this with the fictional element zero.
As for the time travel, If they go that route they will kill the movie. That would mean that all the vessels travel in time on the alien movies. It would also mean that the timeline for aliens makes no sense; Ripley would've returned far later than just 65 years, or decades would have passed at earth while months passed to travel to Hadley's hope. In other words, a FTL that causes time dilation to the point of time travel will not create the type of world seen in the alien universe, a stellar society sustained by extrasolar colonies.

Landing Sequence info or just the computer monitoring outside of the ship - who knows - it is a movie

I don't think it's got anything to do with being a navigation control panel ... on another similar image it shows Shaw on the bottom LCD display ... so it could be Crew information or even Medical Data ... plus it IS Davids Desk :) ...

"im not sure if using a worm hole can be described as a way of traveling faster than light"
Using worm holes counts as ftl travel, at least according to physicists. I'm not sure about Hollywood scriptwriters...

In reference to FTL theories Star Trek got it right. There is a theoretical model for a warp drive where a space ship would sit on a piece of "flat" or normal space and basically ride a wave of spacetime. Thereby never locally breaking the universal speed limit of 300000 km/s. Anything with mass cannot ever reach the speed of light in a vaccum. Therefore anything that would theoretically reduce mass would have no effect on this universal speed limit. It is a function of space-time itself.
If you google Alcubierre Metric, you will find the mathematical model for a "warp Drive". It does however require massive amounts of something called negative mass energy. In fact even the "normal energy requirements are so great that you would need to convert the entire mass of jupiter into pure energy to make a "warp Bubble" large enough for a tennis ball to exist for a fraction of a second. ( sorry its just the way the math works out).
That means matter/antimatter annihilation is out. You need to start looking and Zero Point Vacuum Energy as a viable source.
Anywho sorry for the long babbeling post, Im a graduate student in theoretical Physics working on just this type of thing.
