MemberOvomorphApr-21-2012 10:16 AMI was curious about your thoughts on the deleted scene from Aliens, where Newt's parents find the derelict spacecraft and one of them is shown with a facehugger attached. How is it that this colony existed on LV-426 for 20 yrs and only just discovered the derelict spacecraft once Ripley is found? My assumption is that the 'homing beacon' from Alien was still active, therefore, it would've been discovered a long time ago. thoughts?

MemberOvomorphApr-21-2012 11:17 AMThat deleted scene is corny; JC has the stereotypical overworked and overweight supervisor eating donuts while a circa 1979 Big Wheel petals through the shot! Corny and dumb all at the same time. The Jordan parents are out of place too..mom has a poofy 80's perm and the British actor playing Newt's dad has an accent that sounds like a mix of NYC-meets-Chicago-meets Jerry Lewis. Hate that scene. Regarding your post about the timeline, again, out of place...yeah, a Weyland Suit (Burke) sends the "mom & pop survey team" to investigate the signal when it's been known about well before the "deep space salvage team" finds Ripley. JC blew up all continuity to satisfy his, er, "vision"..LMFAO!!!

MemberOvomorphApr-21-2012 11:19 AMSome theories may suggest that the company may have found a way to disable or disguise the signal from being picked up on "company" equipment. Probably to give time for the colony to be set up and be optimal for infestation. It was revealed later that Burke gave the colonists a grid reference where the derelict would be without disclosing that there was in fact anything there.

MemberOvomorphApr-21-2012 11:24 AMCameron explained that the ship had been damaged from a volcanic eruption thus also damaging the warning beacon. Newt's mum and pappy enter the ship from a hole made by the eruption. No signal. Info about the original Nostromo disaster hidden and over time The Company had forgotten about the ship's existence until Ripley.
It is the Company just forgetting about the alien ship that I find harder to swallow. Also, I think they should have kept the scene from O'Bannon where Dallas/Standard turns of the device. It would have left little question in Aliens as to why no one else happened upon the ship.

MemberOvomorphApr-21-2012 11:28 AMI just always loved the expression..."Van Louen" scarfed up To "Ripley" !!!
In answwer to OP's query I would have to say that it seemed they ventured out to a remote part of the planet pretty far removed from Hadleys Hope. They had to go their in one of them tractor truck "thingys" and the Planet had all these dust storms going on at the time. I absolutely LOVE all of the deleted scenes from all 4 original films...But never the less you raise a good point ya figure during 2 decades of being there someone would have found it before Newt's "Daddy" did.

you both are idiots.
colonelangus: the signal was picked up by MOTHER, the synthetic brain of the nosomoto. it wasnt picked up on the crews cell phones or walkie talkies. its not exactly common knowladge.
burke worked for the company and would have sent newts parents to investigate. you would have to imagine the scope of the planet is huge, 100 colonists wouldnt have enough time to map every nook and crannie. seems like common sense
giger - in the future are all accents american? if so god help us all.
america sucks. just ask the rest of the world

MemberOvomorphApr-22-2012 4:29 PM@GeddyGiger you basically just described the entire movie...

it's the 'NOSTROMO' not the NOSOMOTO, you {choose your own expletative}
Yes, Burke sent the Newt's parents to the grid coordinates, but it still doesn't explain why it took 20 yrs for them to find the derelict spacecraft. the colonists were sent to LV-426 by the company for a reason

MemberOvomorphApr-23-2012 2:23 AMyes. they had been sent to LV426 to make the planet habitable. you would figure the reasons they had been sent to this planet will be answered in the coming film.
looking at it from a logical perspective, if they had interest in harvesting the alien species or the technology from the engineers they would first make the planet habitable. second set up a basic infrastructure, then militarization.
personally i think they had waited until they had got the plant up and running before they sent the location of the SJ's craft, why? at that point in time, they knew nothing about the creature, it's habits, the moves it would make, how quickly they would repopulate and how fast the nest would grow etc. so they used newts parents as the Guinea pigs to see if the coast was clear, apparently not off the back of this they used it as just cause to send the marines in. obviously burke went to survey the situation and see if the planet was a write off and to report the facts about the create / or obtain one to the company?

MemberOvomorphApr-23-2012 12:53 PM@ Mr. (or Mrs.) swatzii...
If you understood the jist of my post (which you obviously didn't) I'm criticizing the accent, not praising it. I'd rather it would have been British or Dutch but it's what JC wrote for in his script and/or direction of the actor.
...and who gives a shit if "america sucks"? That's a subjective opinion which has grown stale and old. "[insert here] sucks" is the typical response of a small mind.

MemberOvomorphApr-23-2012 4:45 PMNazi...I mean swatzii....YOU are the epitome of the hopelessly lost. There is a thing called a script, which delivers the story and dialogue with enough plausibility to communicate the films intent. The rest is made up in your own xeno head. As for America? Pray to GOD that we remain a force for good as we have been over this past century. As we go, so goes the world as we know it, along with your delusions of civilization. Humanity exists in a state of controlled chaos more so than any so called, civilized manner. If humanity was civilized, we would not allow the suffering that occurs on a daily basis on this remote, precious bastien of sentient life.

MemberOvomorphApr-23-2012 4:53 PMF you buddy, "America" doesnt suck.
its the same as any other continent, many parts of it are VASTLY different from the others including cultures, races, laws, political interests, as well as landscape and flora and fauna.
America is a continent, we have 2 of them. north and south America with a nice lil central America in the middle.
which continent did you mean?
if you meant north America you are insulting the USA, Canada, and parts of Mexico.
read a book.
