MemberOvomorphApr-22-2012 10:29 PMJust rewatched Aliens and Alien3, at Moviecity channel here in Mexico's cable system; its announced that all 4 movies will be aired through May.
So..... prequel or not.........
1.- Are there any other countries with a similar campaign???
2.- Is there anything you recently discovered or got your attention in any of the Alien movies that hasn't been discussed yet?? ( it may happen )
3.- My recent questions that aroused after watching 2 of the movies, what does LV stands for???, and ( in ALIENS ) the marines mention getting laid with an arcturian, what the hell might that be????

Well Weyland Yutani have already done countless "Shake and Bake Colonies" all over, I would assume arturian is just one of those settlements and having not much else to do, getting laid by Marines was probably the highlight of their day

MemberOvomorphApr-23-2012 12:33 AMthanks abordoli, although it isn't really explained the 2 main directions were:
1.- location vector
2.- no particular meaning.......just sounded right
thanks anyway

MemberOvomorphApr-23-2012 12:36 AMGrindolf, actually they also mention that they could be confused if an arcturian is a male or female; they even say " I do not care if he is a male, as long he is an arcturian. kind of funny
sorry fo the double post.click accident

MemberOvomorphApr-23-2012 12:37 AMI'm pretty sure the US will air the Alien movies as they normally do periodically and prior to new sequel/prequels, but most of us here, I'd imagine, just pop in our DVD/Blu-Rays since the Alien set of films is a must have, like Bladerunner and Star Wars.

MemberOvomorphApr-23-2012 12:51 AMI did learn something new from watching each movie twice over the past few days.
The scene in Alien where the second guy dies in the chamber where it appears to be raining condensation. I used to always think that that was some part of the refinery they were towing, but in-fact it is the room that holds one of Nostromo's retracted landing feet and what the guy is walking on is actually a door that opens so that that thing hanging in the middle can lower and turn into a four-toed landing foot. I assume that the door that he enters this area through automatically seals so as to not allow atmosphere into the ship.
I also believe that the Nostromo crew never leave the Nostromo (except for when they land of course) and enter the refinery that they are towing. The crew of seven are just hauling a piece of equipment that they themselves do not operate. Just hauling cargo. This means that what you see in the movie is basically ALL Nostromo. There are some scale discontinuities because it's hard to see where the Narcissus is located under the Nostromo because the ship seems to get downsized in scale when it is on LV-246 based on the height of people you see on the bridge, but later on when the Narcissus takes off, it seems like a mile of ship going overhead. I would love to take a look at the Nostromo model in L.A. and see if I can find the Narcissus bay.

MemberOvomorphApr-23-2012 1:04 AMI'll check out the retracted landing feet, I also thought that the area was kind of an entrance/outlet to the ship's cooling system, that is why so much moisture. The other thing I have always wondered is that when he takes off his cap and lets the rain touch his face, it seems like daylight, kind of weird being inside a space ship
Nevertheless is one of my favorite scenes and backgrounds, in terms of lighting, sound and ambience.

MemberOvomorphApr-23-2012 1:11 AMI would have had no clue that he was in a landing foot bay if I hadn't heard Ridley's commentary saying so matter-of-fact-ly "Yes, here we are in the bay of one of the landing feet and I wanted it raining in there and everyone asked me why it would be raining and I said "Condensation, whatever...""<--paraphrasing

I found an excerpt here solidating my understanding of the Narciccus in Relation to the Nostromo. I had no clue that it was one of two lifeboats (the second out of order) with the Narcissus being position under the port nacell.
NARCISSUS
Measurements based around the hatch being 6 feet tall.
Shuttlecraft Narcissus
Modified Lockmart Starcub Light Intrasystem Shuttle

The Narcissus docks with a Deep Salvage ship - 2179
LENGTH – 16.3 m (53.5’)
WIDTH – 19.7 m (64.5’)
HEIGHT – 7.5 m (24.5’)
An exterior shot of Ripley in the cockpit while powering up the shuttle reveals her upper half (about 3 feet). This measured against the rest of the visible shuttle supports the above calculations.
The Narcissus is one of two shuttles attached to the Nostromo and is located under the port engine nacelle support. The Narcissus was the only operational shuttle in 2122, as the other one was out of order and in need of repairs. The Narcissus can support 2 people in hypersleep for extended periods.
