Ridley Scott Ends 33+ year debate over Derelict & Eggs !

I believe that the alien that got the SJ died not long after. The queen in the movie Aliens originated from the infestation caused by Newt's dad (well Burke's irresponsible request to have it checked without giving any warning of potential bio-organism danger).

Very cool!!So of course,the next question/mystery is what happened to the initial creature that came out of the SJ? Also,is it the Queen in Aliens?

Good. Because i never liked the Idea that the egg chamber would Not be part of the derelict. somehow the SJ was unaware and got infected by one facehugger And died through the chest bursting. I can only imagine that that alien must have been bigger than the Ones using human to breed.

I watched the interview but it was "NightRiderLoveProvider" that gave us all the link I just watched the interview thoroughly and noticed what everyone else apparently did not in that thread. It's about halfway through! And he clearly ended the debate forever!!! KUDOS "LOVEPROVIDER" !!!

This has been my stance ever since I first saw it. I'm glad I was on the right side of the debate. The only thing I didn't know for sure was whether it was "crash" or "forced-landing" not knowing how much abuse the derelict could take in said situation.

FINALLY.. Goddamn that man took his sweet freaken' time to fix some loose ends... Also, good to know the SJ sent the distress signal. *(Oh and look at the red suit in the background! :P)

I’m glad this is the case because it syncs with the reality of the the way the space was designed and the "moisture barrier"/"warning system" in which the laser light is a factor in 1979. Someone had said earlier that Ridley referred to the eggs as "cargo" in a making-of video. I'm very pleased that this is the backstory. It also points to the Engineers as "fallible," which I find very refreshing. It seems possible to me that the SJ might have know that s/he had been impregnated and was rushing somewhere to seek a remedy as well. Does anyone recall if Kane completely remembered what had happened to him in terms of his having been used by the face hugger? Is it possible (or even canonical) that the hugger secreted something that affected his short term memory so that he may simply be disoriented after the hugger crawled off and unaware that there was a xeno embryo inside him? Certainly Ash knew. But, did Ash ask Kane outright if he remembered anything? I've ordered that blu-ray, but it won't be here until 01 May.

Yeah, I figured the huge space was [i]supposed[/i] to be part of the ship, because it had repeating structural elements....... but where they entered at the center of the "croissant," also never seemed to jive with the directon in which the space curves around to the right, [i]then back to the left[/i] in background. It always seemed to me, it should only have curved back and to the right........but then again, all that empty hollow space also doesn't jive with the apparent configuration of the "croissant" in "Prometheus."

Nice to see Ridley talking one on one, opening up somewhat, although I still have reservations about facts after the fact. I'm more inclined to take the film as it was when I saw it, but I can understand reasons why he has brought this out now.

Spartacus, I'd been wondering why you seemed so bummed out by the "2 ships" eventuality, and now I finally get it. You wanted it to be a one-off......probably because the original design [i]is[/i] so original, and well,........[i]alien[/i]. I can understand why that bothered you. Revisiting what were once intriguing unknowns, runs the risk of eliminating them......but I imagine that for every mystery explained, at least a couple of new questions will be raised. There's no need to dot every i or cross every last t of expositional plausibility, when you're dealing with what could easily appear to us, just like magic. Actually, we've already seen an example of that in the scene where the SJ ship slams into the ground, but doesn't essentially disintegrate into bits and pieces. There's absolutely no way we could build anything that large capable of surviving such an impact and remaining intact.

so very well said Artyoh, I could not agree any more than I do, the obsession has allowed my Ego and my love of this franchise and Scott & Giger and the late great Dan O'Bannon to run rampant with innuendo and speculation and hopes of these little details panning out exactly the way My Ego and I want them to be and because you guys are all so smart and call everyone on everything speculative and therefore am learning to keep myself in better check and just appreciate that is happening at all, because it truly is Their Gift, to us all, for our love and appreciation of the Franchise and the Film that started all of this. And it is Their Baby, not mime, best thing for me, Is to strap myself in and just enjoy the ride!!!

i have 3 answers for this that no one can ever argue with, choose one or all. 1. a wizard did it. 2. star trek time space fluctuation, no more explanation necessary. 3. the space ship has a portal to the creepy ghetto south side of Narnia.

I´m with artyoh and Kane77 on this. Scott´s talk now is an adjustment to the needs of the new story he wants to tell. There is no way the huge egg´s chamber could be part of the derelict (I proved that in an early post using the measurements someone calculated about the Derelict and egg´s chamber sizes), and we know that it was there only because the Fox´s suits redlighted the "pyramid" scenario from O´Bannon script.

correction there is no natural way the chamber is part of the Derelict, unnaturally on the other hand its very possible... just like the TARDIS in Doctor Who.

Snorkelbottom, I do agree, but observe that nothing in "Alien" mithology give hints of this kind of technology happening. This would be a huge departure of the "canon", since the "Alien" franchise happens to be very "naturalistic" in style.

of course BD, Ridley says - its a bomber carrying a cargo of eggs, one of which hatches and hugs the SJ pilot, forcing him to land and send out a distress call - therefore it is. We have our official confirmation of events, end of story.

Naturalistic in style, dont think so... Bio-mechanic, host eliminating aliens. FTL travel with no time dilation. Synthetics mistaken for humans. acid for blood. No heat effect upon entering a planets atmosphere. ...the list goes on. Ridley has given us the facts, just like he did with the suit (eliminating arguments about fossilization, though they still continue), for those that have trouble with those facts just fill in the gaps with whatever theory you want.
