MemberOvomorphApr-26-2012 2:16 AMI'm buzzed about Prometheus! ... I'm buzzed that Ridley Scott is returning us to that place - I wonder if we will be going back to the same planetoid of the original Alien movie --the sequel 'Aliens' was set on a planet and not a planetoid (LV426) ...they can be forgiven for getting it wrong...the original theatrical version of Alien didnt mention this but the directors cut did.
Im happy that the Alien Xeno is gone..that creature was marginalised and turned into a joke by every sequel apart from Alien3 which felt more like the spiritual successor. I want to know about the space jockey.
Im not a fan of the George Lucas 'Lets go back and computer animate everything approach, but theres one little thing that modern technology could do to make the original Alien perfect....im happy with Alien the way it is (almost). I watch it almost every day..its art for me..i rate it above blade runner in that respect (didnt like the cast of blade runner...visually its stunning but, Harrison Ford and Sean Young? No thanks)
There's only one scene that could be improved by modern technology in Alien..i wouldnt want them to change a thing...except...I think everyone will agree that with just a little CGI tweaking you could make the Ash decapitation scene more realistic...hell Alien was made in 1978 mostly...they were working with finite budget and limited technology and they made it damn near perfect visually....but....maybe someone could twist Ridley Scott's arm and get him to fix the Ash scene with modern CGI...dont change anything about the scene just make that effect work...now that Prometheus is comming out maybe taking the time and showing 'Alien' a little love might be a good idea?

MemberOvomorphApr-26-2012 5:14 AMgl3, to show Alien a little love would be to leave it as it is - it
ain't broke, don't fix it, lol.

MemberTrilobiteApr-26-2012 5:16 AMActually Alien could do with a little fine tuning here and there, nothing major.

MemberOvomorphApr-26-2012 5:21 AMWhat really could be tweaked is some of the bad editing, even in the extended version.
The final scene with the creature "floating" into the engine was badly edited as an example.

MemberTrilobiteApr-26-2012 5:28 AMAgain this goes back to my idea of Final Editions, with cuts, additions and amendments for...
1. Narrative
2. Continuity
3. Effects
4. Pacing
All the films could benefit from this, no more so than Alien 3, although IMO David Fincher should be brought back to finish what he started.

Leave it be, no, really am serious... they are classics and should not be meddled with at all !
I love them just how they are, I dont want any remakes, I want them left as they are.
They have remade other classics like Total Recall, I really wish they wouldnt...

MemberOvomorphApr-26-2012 4:29 PMI like that people have such strong opinions about this...some of you have said "don't change a thing' and I don't disagree with you...as much as I think some areas could benefit from a little tweaking another part of me doesnt want to see them mess with it too much...maybe not touching it at all is the right approach..I don't know..im honestly in two minds on it...its a bit like saying 'lets change the nose on the Mona Lisa' sure she might look better but would it still be the same painting.
There is a really rough edit in the ash scene when they cut from the fake Ash head to the real actor which is really out of sync with the rest of the movie but im being picky. I guess it's that the movie is so close to perfect for me that the fake Ash head you see when they are putting him back together really stands out for me. it doesnt mean they did a bad job..it was 1978...its still the best Alien, then Alien3, Aliens, AVP, Alien Res,AVP2 (yes i put AVP before Alien Res...not much of a compliment..more a case of picking the movie that stank the least)

MemberOvomorphApr-26-2012 4:36 PMI would not buy/go-see any retouched Alien release. The movie, minor warts and all, is perfect! A masterpiece up there with 2001.

MemberOvomorphApr-26-2012 7:13 PMAgree with the 2001 comparison. In fact Alien is a better movie...the 5 solid minutes of cheap and meaningless special effects near the end of 2001 destroyed that movie.
Alright...you guys have convinced me...don't change a thing. :-)

MemberOvomorphMay-02-2012 6:56 PM@gl3nnium: You watch 'Alien' almost every day?!?
I appreciate your taste but is that really healthy?
Well, you're obviously made of much stronger stuff than I... if I did the same I'd consider myself masochistic.
PS: If Ridley Scott ever did some "super-ultimate-last-one-honest" Director's Cut of Alien and did tweak the Ash head-to-Ash actor editing I certainly wouldn't cry blasphemy. So I agree with you there on just that one scene.

MemberOvomorphMay-02-2012 6:59 PMI stopped halfway through, don't see how that creature is gone or why anyone would be happy about it if it was, just my 2 cents, I love your dedication man.
