This is good stuff, but Tim NEVER looks the kid in the eye the whole time...
I don't trust those corporate suits (some low-budget, hardly heard about, sci fi horror movie taught me that back around 1979 or so ;) ), but I want to believe him, so I will!

I think the stance of letting the movie's rating be what it will be is good. The movie is getting soooo much hype that it really doesn't matter. Arguments might be made that it might make more money not being an 'R', but there are equally good arguments that it might not make more money being "PG-13". I don't think the rating will matter for this genre. It's epic sci-fi/horror in space and on an alien planet. I will be taking my oldest to youngest sons to see this (14,12, 10 & 9). Of all them, the 9 year-old is the most excited and "into it" as he loves playing AvP on the Xbox360, loves Alien movies, Predator movies not to mention the AvPs. Trust me, there are going to be A LOT of 10-18 years olds seeing this movie with either their parents or older siblings. Unless they make it an NC-17 (No children under 17.PERIOD), the rating will not make a single bit of difference with this movie's popularity and box-office success (which I hope will be great for the studio because in 2-3 years time, I want to see MORE of Ridley's "new vision")

This changes nothing. I guarantee that there will be, in a year's time, either a "Director's Cut" or an "Unrated" version of this movie. Fox wants Prometheus fans to see this in the theater at least twice (2D/3D) and buy the movie at least four times.

I think a fresh new trailer with a couple weeks to go, ending with an official rating of R, would set this website on fire and kick publicity in general into overdrive.

Didn't RS say that he kinda filmed 2 versions, one hard and one with the "less is more" approach of Alien and that he would go with what he thought worked best? If that's the case they could just go with the "less is more" approach which will probably get a pg-13. Personally, I think the film could work either way and I dont think this reveals as much as everyone thinks.
I dont see why studios cant release 2 versions of a film in theatres. I mean, are there rules against it or something? I dont think it would be a good idea with all films but in cases like this where there's a lot of money involved and a hard core fan base that obviously would like to see a film not hindered by the ratings board and the fact that pg-13 makes more money. Just release both. Let the younger audience see what's suitable for them and the of age audience see what they want.
Either way I just truly want to see what's intended and what works best. I could care less about what the film is rated going in. If it is pg-13 I really doubt I can see myself coming out of the film saying "Man, it wasn't gory enough" or "There should have been more tits" or "They didn't cuss enough." Now I know it could happen. I've seen a few films that I thought held back to get a rating. I have also seen films that I know didn't hold back and just went balls out and it totally helped and stood out and was noticable. A great example being Cabin in the Woods. But with Prometheus I believe that if the film works it will work regardless of the damn rating.
RS did say that he has an obligation to the studio to make their money back. I really doubt the studio told him to just do whatever the fuck and not to worry about the rating or return. In fact, I KNOW they didnt. If they did the studio would be shut down for being crazy. They're not in it to let RS do what he wants. They're in it to make money.
Basically I say fuck the rating. The film will be what it is and we will probably get a Special Edition(not a Directors Cut) later on down the line if only to see the other version of stuff they shot which, with what the studio just revealed, will not be what they took out for the ratings board but what was taken out because RS thought it worked better without it. At that point I think we'll have a better idea as to if they cut stuff for a rating or cut stuff because it worked better.

Nothing is going to be cut, that's fine - still some stuff might be digitally altered post production (black blood on Shaw after the c-section?) but as long as the ideas aren't changed who cares what the rating is?
April 27, 2012
Why do I keep hearing about Shaw's C-section?? Where is this in the trailers or any "unofficial" story boards?

@microsis In one shot you can see she has been stitched up on her stomach. The right side I believe. It's after she's gotten out of the med pod. She's in her underwear. I'll see if I can find the pic with the section of her stomach enlarged so you can see it.
