Ridley Scott’s Prometheus is proving an eye-popping draw for the BFI Imax theater in central London as pre-sales for the movie break records.
Scott’s movie, starring a galaxy of stars including Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Noomi Rapace, Idris Elba and Logan Marshall-Green, has booked 18,287 tickets in hits first full week of presales at the theater.
It translates into £293,312 ($474,687) in gross pre-sale tickets, the highest grossing week ever.
The standalone flagship IMAX theater also reported its highest grossing first day of pre-sales ever, taking £137,000 ($221,717).
The take has beaten other high-profile IMAX rollouts in the U.K. including Harry Potter And the Deathly Hallows Part 2, Avatarand The Dark Knight

MemberDeaconMay-04-2012 6:38 AMI thought this would be big, but boy it could be huge....
I have never been that excited about a movie since..... well Star Wars EP1 Prequel and that was a disapointment to a degree. After that it was the first Transformers and The Thing remake (which could have been great with bigger budget, better director and some changes in the plot).
I feel with the Thing they may have had that Kate survive so they could maybe had made a sequel based around her body or something to do with the last scene she did..... and not have to go back and cover the what happened to Childs and McCready. Unless they do remake/reboot.
I think Ridley is thinking same thing, that he can do a sequel that does not cover the Xeno at all.
The Thing was a bit of a box office disapointment and i guess no real scope to follow it on. But looking at how well Prometheus is doing without it even being seen and the kind of twists and plot that Ridley and Co will give i think its safe to assure a sequel.

MemberOvomorphMay-04-2012 8:18 AMYou are demanding big studio exec and big time multinational company to make changes to their multi-million dollar investment by using the word "fuck"?
It will be a hundred times more effective if you ask nicely. And even if you did, why should they concede to your demand? Ridley Scott, scfi, aliens go bats hit on humans for $10 - take it or leave it.

MemberOvomorphMay-04-2012 8:26 AMSo that is a report from just 1 flagship theatre? Interesting.
I havent checked in a few days, but there will still no advance sales online yet here for Prometheus. I think its because we are still more than 30 days out.
When does AVENGERS release in the UK?... It seems to be getting raves here in North America....even from critics that dont usually go for that type of flick, so it looks like right now, that is going to be a giant blockbuster here. I would be interested to know how Avengers makes out in the UK.

MemberOvomorphMay-04-2012 8:42 AMCanadaPhil - Hi mate,
watched Avengers last week here in the UK quite enjoyable. Thor was a bit Crap in it to be honest, but the film is quite entertaining, didnt watch it in 3d and wasnt released in IMAX which is just daft! seeing as though we have a HUGE IMax here in manchester.
cant wait for Prometheus though and then Dark knight.
