are you referring to the pyramid? if so, its because both Prometheus and avp spawned that same idea from the unused pyramid idea from alien.

B1-66ERApril 29, 2012
I think he's referring to the fact that in AvP the Predators are essentially the Lords of the Aliens who manipulate them to their own ends. Beyond that, I don't see any connection.

RedleaderApril 29, 2012
There are somewhat similar
- exploring team
- wayland interests
- pyramid
- statues (SJ suits, totem head, etc)
- the escape
- everyone dies except maybe one?
- the breifing (big similarity)
- maybe more???

@snorkel
that still doesn't mean avp is canon. For once it doesn't say who weyland's father is. weyland-yutani exists since alien, and peter weyland's birthdate has nothing to do with avp, im watching it right now

How dare you say such blasphemous things! Repent and you may be forgiven, but continue with such defiance merging Alien and Predator, then you risk eternal punishment in the afterlife in the belly of the Derelict on LV-426 with a chestburster!
Or, you can " The Engineers' Prayer"
[i]Our Space Jockey,
Who Art in the Cosmos,
Thy Kingdom Come,
Thy Terraforming will be done,
On LV-426 as it is on Earth
Give us this day our daily Weyland-Yutani cornbread,
And forgive us our trespassing,
As we forgive those who use us for g**dman percentages.
And lead us not to Predator 0r Jean Claude Van-Dam,
But deliver us to Sir Ridley
For thine is the power and the leadership and the courage of Ellen Ripley,
The Last Survivor of the Nostromo,
Signing Off.

Its quite simple really, I'll explain...
If AVP was not to be considered canon, the three points I previously posted...
1. www.weylandindustries.com
2. Peter Weyland born 1990
3. Yutani Corporation
Would have instead become...
1. www.weylandcorp.com
2. Peter Weyland born after August 2005.
3. Yutani Corporation being the name of the Japanese branch of Weyland, instead of a competitor and rival company.
...Doing this would not really have affected Prometheus in any way, and would have made the AVP's non-canon. But instead they did not, therefore AVP and AVPR are canon.

Nice work Snork, makes sense story-wise and fan-base-wise. Subtle... yet canon just the same. Why purposely alienate (npi) a branch of the franchise? Scott doesn't have to like where they went with the story but he's smart enough to deal with the suits at Fox and not piss on other parts of the franchise. I'm fine with that.

dbApril 29, 2012
I spoke with Dean Devlin (ID4) once about a sequel and attaining rights to his characters, ...they weren't his anymore. The studio owned everything. Same with Alien. Ridley didn't have a say in where the story was going. Fox owns it and could turn it into a kid's show tomorrow if they want.
But thank god he (RS) has a say in what came before!
XenophobiaApril 29, 2012
As much as I like my AvP in the morning with a side of toast even I must admit that it's not cannon. The AvP movies to put it lithely were a huge steamy pile of crap that if done right it could had been awesome. So to any staff or moderators please lock this thread we're done beating on the same dead horse.

GavinApril 29, 2012
AVP is canon, as I have just proved. Doesn't mean you have to like them, but refuting their position is futile because of Prometheus.

B1-66ERApril 29, 2012
Die Horse Die!!! Oh whoops we killed him already. Get the synapse re establisher so we can do it again. There we go... Die you miserable excuse for a horse. This is great, now we can just kill this horse as many times as we want. Thank you Weyland Industries.

SpartacusApril 29, 2012
Just FYI
Sigourney Weaver wants one more Ripley film now !!!
I have loved her all my life and hate her guts now for this, why couldn't she have done more to begin with? Before this was written?
I do not need to hear this from her now and to have to start wondering now if it is ever going to happen, quite frankly i just finished going through this with the derelict and I am not in the mood for any crap like this right now from her, you want back in Weaver then get in and stay in otherwise please SHUT UP...I am so sick up and fed up of you raising my expectations for it only to have you quash them with some BS about how tough the studio is on you every single time...forget about the money... and just do it already or just SHUT UP !!!

GavinApril 29, 2012
despite the fact that I once posted a synopsis for an Alien 5 a while back on this very site, IMO there is absolutely no need to do another installment of Alien with Ripley 8 involved.

SpartacusApril 29, 2012
ask her
guess she got the taste back in her mouth after filming that new movie she was in...lol...
Beware spolier below...
...WITH "PINHEAD" MAN !!!

GavinApril 29, 2012
Ripley's story was complete as of Alien 3.
Alien Resurrection is about a whole other character, and a shell of one at that.

craigamoreApril 29, 2012
Snorky's going get pissy with me :) but I can't help my self.....there's this, direct from the weylandindustries.com timeline:
"October 11, 2012 - Weyland Corporation is recognized as a legal entity and corporation under United States law and receives their Certificate of Incorporation from the Companies House in the United Kingdom. Due to the combined value of Sir Peter Weyland’s various patents and patent-pendings, the company incorporates with a higher fair market valuation than any other company in history."
I do believe that's after AVP takes place in 2004......

GavinApril 29, 2012
@ Craigamore...
Yes AVP takes place in 2004, and was a Weyland Industries expedition, not a Weyland Corporation one. Two separate companies, two separate CEO's. As I've tried to explain before.

craigamoreApril 29, 2012
"Two separate companies, two separate CEO's" with the same name, with the same pioneering hand and influence in the same fields (particularly AI and artificial biotech), mirroring each other in encounters with a biomechanoid alien species..........I'm sorry my friend, but that is such a ridiculous, illogical supposition to make.......it goes beyond one's reasonable stretch of the imagination and would be, if it were true, INCREDIBLY INSULTING to the intelligence of 'Alien' fans the world over........
That one entry in the weylandindustires.com timeline, coupled with the notable absence of Charles Bishop Weyland, is a logical statement of intent to remove AVP from the alien franchise chronology....

Alien DNAApril 29, 2012
I'm a businessman, I own two businesses. They have similar names and I do the same work under both. Legally they are two separate entities, with two different EIN's ( SSN for a business), similar to two separate persons.
Also, did anybody see the Predator mask on the wall behind Guy Pearce in the recent iTunes featurette? He must've tracked down that mask in Antarctica after his daddy died and has it displayed in his collection. LOL
(BTW, yes I realize that it's some other type of mask from an ancient civilization or something, looks very similar though, coincidence?)
tuteloApril 29, 2012
and it still doesnt explain how that makes avp canon. So you can try to tie them in, but doesnt mean they tie in. So make me understand even if you have to write a giant post cause I dont see it. Where is the proof that Peter Weyland and Charles B. Weyland are related?

thefaceheadApril 29, 2012
Also if Charles Bishop Weyland was in the Alien universe who's the guy in Alien3 with blood coming off his head after 85 wacks him?
And why did the company suddenly decide to make a model of Bishop?

GavinApril 29, 2012
Weyland Industries has nothing to do with Weyland Corp. WI had interests in communications, robotics and archeology. WC has interests in AI, terraforming and space travel. Two separate companies. It happens all the time in the real world, why not in a fictional one.
As I have said before, if they wanted to eliminate AVP as canon, then they should not have referenced weyland industries.

GavinApril 29, 2012
@ tutelo - If AVP is not canon then Peter Weyland should have been born after CB Weylands death, and the site should be called anything but www.weylandindustries.com. The only reason to use that name is to include AVP as canon.
@ TFH - Bishop II is a synthetic sent to coerce Ripley into giving up the Queen Chestburster. watch how he reacts to the red blood.
