That and the original "Thing" from the 1950's also was apart of the inspiration....also a great and classic movie...

god, I remember watching that on TV as a little kid. The scene with the alien stuck in the port hole sucking air really stuck with me for some reason. later on, I realized it inspired one of my favorite all time movies
