Space Jockey

What are you basing your size comparison against though? It's the same species, that much is definite. It may not lead into the original, but c'mon, it's not the same size? I really doubt that. Have you seen the screencaps of the room they built that set on? It's enormous. I can swallow it if it isn't THE Space Jockey from Alien, but why would Ridley go to the trouble of doing this if not to give the fans a few answers while introducing a few more questions at the same time?

its not the same ship but another ship, lindelof has already given the answers, its in the same universe but its another story the ship in prometheus is a totally different ship that the one in alien. Thje ship in alien is carrying eggs the ship in prometheus isnt the ship in alien is parked (Ridleys own words) the ship in promethues gets crashed out of the sky. DNA means similiar, the dna in the film is weyland, space jockies and thats it and nothing else.

First i think we will see the Alien DNA and we will see the Derelict on LV426 as Ridley has already said that there is 8 mins of footage that will explain the events of the Derelict on LV426 and he said we will see Alien DNA and the Alien Fanboys will get there wish. But this does not mean its going to be in same timeline as the goings on in Prometheus. Shaws Dad is in the movie but he is not on Prometheus or LV223 and Young Weyland apears as a Hologram so he is in the movie but again that dont mean the same age Guy Pierce is going to be walking around with the crew. There seems to be a dawn of time scene, where we see the saucer and waterfall etc.... but again these things are shown in the movie but they will make no apearence in the same timeframe as the crew vistit LV223. Only has a dream, a flash back etc. Thats how i think the Derelict from Alien will be shown, so i dont think the one in this movie takes off and lands on LV426 and i dont think another leaves from LV223 and gets there. I think the Derelict on LV426 would have been there a long long time before the Prometheus crew lands on LV223 just as the events that killed off the Jockeys and what caused them in the Holograms to be running is going to have happened a long long time before Prometheus Mission. Could it had been via events hundreds of years prior or thousands or maybe events of a earlier mission to the system, as potentially Prometheus may not had been Earths first mission to LV223.

Yes the Derelicts look a little different, but i also think if Ridley goes to make a exact prequel or if in this movie we see another Derelict on LV426 i would bet that it would be made to look the same. Alien was made in late1970's released in 1979, i am pretty sure if they had the special effects and budget that he has now back then, then some things would have been different. The depiction of the new Derelict is ment to be the same as the old one, what i am saying is look at the difference in BSG Vipers from the 80's and the new ones, they are slightly different but are suposed to be the same they just got a upgrade in the style department. Thus the Derelicts are not meant to be different like say how the Cylons look different or more so the Cyclon Fighters. Ridley did say he wanted to tone down the elements of the Bio Mechanical look to make it have more Mechanical Feel as in Alien the set had a more Organic Look. These are although same kind of ship, the Derelict in Prometheus does not land on LV426 because i recon their is one massive difference one thats not taken into acount be creature and ship redesign. The Derelict in Alien does not have Sarcophagus, if Ridley is going for them being the same ship well how is he going to explain the disapearence of such,

Finally regarding the Jockeys size. I did a rough estimate of the Alien Chair and it apears to be about 15 to 16 foot long. Used average dimentions based on the Humans near it. This would put the Space Jockey at about 12ft tall. Considering the Chair in Prometheus is same size, the Jockey in that seat is about 9 foot tall. But we have to remember if you take a photo of someone from the chest/waist up that is slumped on a reclining chair or deck chair etc, if you take one when they are lying with the head right upagainst the head rest and then another when they are more slumped down. Go and compare the images and the one shot will apear to be a smaller person. With the Arms, the Humerus in the Prometheus Jockey is not straight to the camera or in a straight position. If you take a photo of yourself from a certain distance with arms facing the camera but you have your arms bent slightly like your placing hand on hips and then take another with your arms straight by your side, you will see a big difference in what it apears like. This is why the Engineer in Prometheus in that scenes arms look so small, look at his proportions when he walks upto the Chair, look at the proportions of any human crew when they have arms by side, the Engineer shot in the chair makes it look like he has short Humerus like a Dwarf. Now the Alien Jockey does apear to have a longer proportion Radius Bone and Hands. Another thing to look at in those images is certain parts of the chair, compare the sizes of those parts to the Jockeys heads and the difference in size in % are about the same in both Movies. Thus unlike what some say the Alien Jockey is not 15ft and the Prometheus one is not 7ft (well he is but then again the actors playing hobits are not really under 4ft are they). Yes the Blue Guy/Jockey is smaller than the one in Alien but then again look at this image. Nice pic for comparison :-D Ridley said recently that the ship in Alien suffered a forced landing. It looks to me as if the Prometheus forces this one to land violently too. Co-inky-dink? I dunno............ I wish it were June 8 already!!

And don't forget, film-makers take creative licence when they go and re-visit old ideas. If Ridley and Giger had the time and budget for the original, I'm sure it would have been more like this movie in the first place.

Indeed there was a lot of stuff from the Alien Script or Star Beast Movie as it was then, that Ridley could never had used in Alien due to restrictions. Many things from that Script seem to make a apearence in this movie, well simular. I think the whole Xeno being around before this movie would explain some of the stuff, but then what confuses me is Ridley says this movie is how Mommy meets Daddy. So we still dont have a clue whats going on, Ridley is sending us in circles and on Wild Goose Chaces lol

I have new ideas of how this movie goes. 1. There are numerous small tombs you see in line with each other as the prometheus lands. Perhaps each kings reign was left as a small temple. Their are 4 of them and there were at one time 4 space jockeys that we have seen. 2. The pods are various dead buried space jockeys. Their living organs were preserved in the organic material for later inhabitation of whoever came by. 3. The elephantine heads are just a mask that represent their god. Incas and Egyptians did this with all their gods as a form of tribute. 4. Technolgy has advanced and it's noticable looking at the old gun and new gun. Not to mention the cryo beds are missing in the older shuttle compared to this one. The SJ's are obviously smaller now. I think Ridley didn't want to have them that big in new movie as it would have thrown everything off. 5. Their is something special about the massive temple and many have died trying to see what it is or what it offers.

Just look at where the top of the shoulder of the original Space Jockey touches the chair vs the new space jockey. The New space jockey's shoulder is significantly lower and subsequently the arms shorter (by comparison). I'm guessing this is our shorter Engineer (from the scene where we see him standing over Shaw), flying away in the juggernaut.

i dont think there is any real question, that the ship and space jockey we see in the trailers is NOT the same one that they discover in Alien. Just look at the pictures Jchmtz showed us.... the space jockey from Alien is MUCH bigger than the one we see in the Prometheus trailer. My god look how long his arm is, and how high he's sitting. Dallas mentions that the jockey has fossilized and "grown out of the chair", but thats really 'stretching' it. and parts of the chair look different, like the part just behind his head, it has a slightly different design. clearly its the same race, but they arent necessarily (and im certain its not) the same ship. i expect a very subtle, yet clear suggestion at the end of prometheus, where we see a space jockey still on the planet, and know by circumstances that he'll be the one that ends up on LV426...why we will know it when we see it will be discovered during the film.

That's small children in spacesuits in the Alien screen-caps at the top. An effective piece of artistic license that led to the myth that the SJ was ginormous. The SJ appears (relatively) smaller in the close-ups as they gather around him. I don't know if the SJs from the two films are the same size but they are similar.

Ridley used his two young sons along with another child as Kane, Dallas and Lambert during filming of the Alien SJ scene.
