Trailers Sucking the Life?

Article claims we have seen too much: http://adage.com/article/adages/prometheus-trailer-alien-prequel/234473/ I personally still think the marketing campaign has been dashingly great. I read the forums every day and honestly they are still just theories. The only thing that they gave away that sucks is we know Prometheus rams the alien vessel and a few other plot points. That ramming kind of sucks but it makes you think as we have talked, is there another ship? Is Wayland there?...etc. I feel the trailers have shown just enough. We've seen confirmation of the SJ's, and enough of an alien connection to make any fan boy happy. Besides that, I have seen very little 100% conclusive theories in the forums. The virals of TED, and David8 were awesome btw. Well done Fox (thus far)! Discuss!!

I totally agree, the marketing, trailers, starmap app etc, etc is stunning. In the past I have completely avoided anything that may give away any micro-detail concerning a movie I intend to see at the cinema. For some unknown reason my personal restraint, self-discipline and pure common sense have all gone AWOL for the "Star Wars" moment of the new millenia. I simply just cannot get enough of Prometheus, my tickets are booked (June 1st 3D natch) yet I still can't quench my thirst for the smallest drop of trivia......Latest credit information...."creature operators" ....WOW !!!!!!!!!!!! I honestly believe that none of this will detract from our first viewing, Ridley is far too smart for that......if you are too young to know, please sit back and enjoy the "Star Wars" moment

@Jim100a100, I agree with your statement. I know a lot of people that have heard of Prometheus or have seen the trailer but they don't understand the concept. The Alien series hasn't been touched on for 15 years since Alien Resurrection and now we have a whole new generation of audience members who are like "Who's this Ridley Scott and H.R. Giger fellow?", "Whats Alien?". I know of many folks out there who know of Alien and know of Ridley Scott but don't know much more than their titles and a few pictures they've made in the past. Prometheus is really bringing the term "ALIEN" & "RIDLEY SCOTT" into the 21st Century. Who have a lot of these mainstream superhero and horror films that hit theaters all the time but its been a while since Ridley has hit the bigscreen with a science-fiction film and the "ALIEN" movies recently before Prometheus that have been made are the God Awful AVP movies. Forgive your fellow friends and aquaintances who have never heard of Alien or Ridley Scott and take them into the theater on June 8th and have them expierience Prometheus. Than you can take them on a journey with the following 4 films.

The only part of that I don't agree with, Ripley Clone 8, is the last two sentences....I would say someone seeing 'Prometheus' must see 'Alien' first at the very least....if we can aid them anyway, already did it with one friend, about to do it with another.....

I am under the impression that the trailers give away a lot indeed, but I still hope the remaining 110 unseen minutes have something more in store for us. Scott said that surprise is in the story, while the trailers depict a very linear plot. I really hope we are just being led astray by the trailers in order to be smacked in the face by the movie, or I would be as disappointed as much as I am excited right now.
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born. Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.

well said.. not having read the article you linked to yet, I would say my only concern at this point is burn-out, with 30 some odd days left. They probably have more up their sleeve to present between now and then...the general public out there is probably not soaking it up as quickly and voraciously as us fans. I could ask any random people I work with, and they have no idea of this movie yet.

For those who feel the trailers are sucking all the life out of the film, then the obvious thing would be not to watch them. Granted, Fox is running a strong marketing campaign for this film, and it seems so tempting to find out what else is going to be in the movie, but that's why they call it self-restraint. And since as someone said on here the general public doesn't really understand the concepts in this film, one wouldn't be in the dark because they don't look at every bit of information regarding this film.

I don't think the trailers themselves are the issue, the danger starts when you start to analyses each frame and see something that 99% of normal people wouldn't notice (ie thats us on these boards) Don't look at the thread showing the new TV spots as a particular case in point - totally unnecessary
