That could be a tail but I really thought( maybe ) it's a bit of misdirection. We see this short bit in a trailer and we all are like what is that thing, then in the movie it's just going to be a hose or some other junk then BAM behind Shaw is the actual monster/alien whatever. It would be a tried and true classic scare tactic

i think it is some kind of tail or tentacle, but couldn't it also be blue guys arm? it is like the same color.

How about creatures until the point we actually get a name for them? Do we really NEED names for the creatures in this? Besides the Engineers, that is. Xenomorph is the technical term for a type of rock. I know the cause is lost, however I will not give up my fight! :-P
