The planet cannot be the homeworld of the engineer

Fair enough, so I have to assume the engineers are servile employees of an alien race that hail from a big massive planet somewhere. I've read too many synopsis's and plot lines to ascertain this idea.
I would dearly love to see a planet that would dwarf earth and be awash with the alien/giger stuff we've all been craving since 1979.

I think we've all assumed that this is probably not the Engineer's home planet at this point...

well, it seems to be held as a "fact" that the planet where the action is going on is a sort of outpost.

the moon surrounding this planet is LV-426
it does look like this is a main station planet though and home to the xeno dna
hence the temples and not some pictograms with star maps
I hope prometheus 2 visits the home world though

I belive one of the planets close to LV-223 is the world of the engineers, since this is the system they pointed to on the cave paintings... I believe that LV-223 is some kind of outpost as well.

The star maps on Earth are very interesting. Why were they made, if they were not some primitive invite, then why display them at all?
I really like these puzzles.

some of the shots of the ampules look like they are leaking that black goo...almost like it's a toxic waste site..

i never read anything about the size of the planet being smaller than earth?
and maby it looks so barren becuase its a fallen world, remember "the crew encounters a survivor of a civilisation en charge of some dangerous elements"
ALIENS THINK HUMANS ARE ALIENS

i for one would LOVE too see a
planet that is completely / utterly Gigerfied
so far, the images i have seen in PROMETHEUS have further sparked
my interest in all things Giger. i have a few of Giger's hard bound art
books, and a good deal of HQ images i have been lucky enough to find
online / magazines
seeing a 100% Giger designed planet / landscape
on the big screen, would be such an awesome site
perhaps if PROMETHEUS has a sequel, i might get my wish

I, too, "would dearly love to see a planet that would dwarf earth and be awash with the alien/giger stuff we've all been craving since 1979" -- it would be phenomenal, at least in our imaginations. Ridley & Co. have the artistic expertise to do it. Was Giger consulted on Prometheus?
So, if this planet is LV-223, how close/far is the engineer homeworld? How far is LV-426 from LV-223?

Well if the Engineers are taken in same context as the Gods as in many Ancient Civilisations, then that means there are not like thousands of them.
But maybe logic would sugest that there is more than 10 of them.
So indeed logic would sugest that this is a outpost this is like a Warehouse for Lifeforms and Technology to Bio/Terra Form this sector of the Galaxy.
But who knows.... i do think a Research/Outpost makes sence.
But then looking at the Star Map why put this system if its only a outpost?

warehouse for weapons. no one would want to keep the shit they can unleash on their homeworld. That disaster is death and mutation for everything.

BigDaveMay 08, 2012
@Shane
Thats what i think will explain Alien.... years before Prometheus one of their creations would have been taken off that planet so as to Quarantine it.

well a sequel to this movie has been brought up many times.
i personally was wondering if ridley was testing the waters to see how many fans would give a crap about what happened before "alien" and if there is enough of us fanatics who have wondered for all these years,
perhaps he may go deeper into the spacejockey race's back story in that sequel.

the planet they are on is they planet being prepared for life to exist on, they find planets full of life, send in xenos to clear the entire planet, then build a temple and leave urns with the dna for that planets begginings to overflow from. That planet has already been bio-cleansed with xenos and its now being prepared for the urns th overflow its creations from. Its a cycle the engineers use to start worlds that they control and own - they arrive - they bio-clean then they start new life and dissapear.
