Ridley: Has he still Got it

I was thinking to myself yesterday "has Ridley still got it in him to play with our minds? play on our fears and emotions like he once did?" and i have to admit i doubted him, i thought he cant, just like an aging rocker loses his edge a 74 year old will lose his vision and imagination depth. And then i remembered "Hannibal" and my faith was restored, i remembered how Ridley took that film and dragged out of that script a seriously mind altering film, classic eery haunting moments (Gary oldmans charecter and how he became like that are classic Ridley scott haunting Cinamatography) I remember the way Scott ended the film, how he ended Gary oldman, what he did to Ray liotta, I remember so much of the darkness of that film and i can honestly say if Scott has made Prometheus a little bit more like Hannibal and a little less like Robin Hood, we are all in for a serious mind altering showdown, bring on the new monster, bring it on.

As good as Alien was, Prometheus looks to be light years beyond it in some ways.....far better production value, more people to kill, a really quirky Android, new monsters, a far bigger story and some really disturbing imagery!!

I agree with Dave_b and Forever War. Age is not a limitation, and Sir Ridley has all the experience he needs to visually stun the audience and give them some food for thought.

well i am an artist and many people i associate with. i dont feel we lose our touch, actually i always liked to draw nude female aliens and as a kid i thought i would get in trouble so i removed all of the genitals, didnt even draw nipples, not even on males that i tried to draw occasionally. the older i got i didnt feel like i had restrictions so i felt much more free to draw whatever the hell i wanted. i think in some ways AGE actually helps. plus i escaped my families over-protective religious wrath and started looking at more erotic art and that helped me with drawing anatomy much much better :) i think the older u get the less u give a damn about everyone elses opinion so your art gets better, or at least better in you own eye.

I'm expecting to be fully inspired upon exiting the theatre for the first time! As an artist, it is very thrilling to receive new inspiration from cinema, especially since this is a new sci-fi from Ridley!

I think the decision to do sci-fi again after so long was probably very difficult for him. One would hope that he spent a lot of time considering whether or not he could pull it off. Hopefully he shopped the plot around to a few folks first and asked. "Does this suck?" Given the level of secrecy and the sort of fanboys he has let in on the project there is always the danger of a phantom menace style scenario. That was why the Star Wars prequels sucked - Lucas surrounded himself with adoring yes-men who never checked him on his bullshit. So I really, really hope that he had at least one person on staff whose job it was to whack him upside the head and say, "Remember you are mortal" from time to time.

Ridley most certainly still "has it". I truly have not been more excited for a new movie release.

i found random pictures i doodled as a child all crumpled up... and my first thought was a jealous " shit thats good... i was just a kid tho, im a woman now i can do better then that !!" i just moved to a new place and i did just find a lot of my old drawings and many of them are great but rushed, i feel all pissed and jealous like someone else did them. a couple of them i did instead of studying for SATs and my ASVAB. oy, this forum has really helped me bring back old memories to give me a huge kick in the ass to continue my comics.

Just by watching Prometheus interviews you can see how confident and clear minded he is. I feel inspired just by hearing him speak about his new project. I feel he is as excited directing this epic as we fans are awaiting its theatrical release. Hannibal a very underrated film in my opinion. Took Thomas Harris' trilogy to a whole new level of darkness. Yea... Hes still got it :P

Are we questioning the contrivance of Ridley Scott. The visionary stylist that brought us Matchstick Men, A Good Year and Robin Hood. We may have to change June 8th to Black Friday. Take care everyone.

@ Sundar...Matchstick men is one of the best action comedies of all time, IMHO... Probably the most "out of character" film RS has done, in a way, but it is really a fine movie!

@ Otto, just playing the devils advocate. I consider the entire film archive of Sir Scott to be ''regal'' although in my humble opinion I consider his first three excursions into cinema to be the best. My opinion only suggest or eludes to the inclination he has ''fathered'' substandard movie fare. As already discussed extensively in other threads and responses I worry about Mr. Scott's writing and ''support'' group and possible vacancy of H.R. GIGER. Like many other members I have waited 33 years to revel in this opportunity to peek behind the curtain at the mysteries of Alien. Sorry to have offended any members. Godspeed.
