Intentions???

Interesting theories. . . I think that the pictograms left on Earth by them were engraved as such, when humans are able to achieve space travel etc, they can search out their creators but these creators (Space Jockey's) definitly have an insidious nature, not caring for "lower" species like humans. But this arrogance will be their downfall I think. I.e possibly the accidental creation of the Xeno's. . .

Maybe...I just like the spine tingling nature of having our whole purpose and destiny being uncovered and proven to be that all we ever were intended to be was Raw Material for an advanced species' experiments.

If you saw the lates yahoo video on Prometheus you can see two very interesting things. One, it's a full shot of the flaying saucer thing over the waterfall and two David showing interest over Hollaway's thesis on the 'invitation' deal. For me the second shot or scene it's more important than the full shot of the saucer, cause it makes it now clear to me that such an expensive well fonded and well equiped journey half way across the galaxy could not be made possible because of a thesis or some archeological find, the company knows something otherwise Peter Weyland himself would not be there.

What if some alien 'Derilict' piece of technology is found on Earth which sets the scen for the Weyland speech then we jump to the scientists around the world finding artifacts/hidden clues/heiroglyphs/engravings then we jump to events of the Prometheus ship leaving earth bound for the Zeta-II Reticuli 'Star System' or if not star then certainly planetary system.

To be honest its maybe all guess work as there are still some unanswered Questions, a major one is what is that Flying Saucer and whos is it? But after seeing the Hologram Engineer Scene the Running Engineer Scene, the dead Jockeys all over the place. Then looking at the Sarcophagus and the holes, and how it seem we only see one Engineer. Looking then at the Cast List, and what some production effects team had said to a French Magazine. Combine that with the difference between the Bibles/Korans ONE GOD and other Ancient Religons etc GODS. And hints of no Xeno in movie, not direct prequel and Derelict parked and could be Millions of years old. Looking at the Giger Alien Cycle and how it shows one Engineer, restraining another to start the Xeno Cycle (unless that Engineer to be used as Host is a Sacrefice and knows that he will be used as such). When i combine all of those, while its hard to figure the Engineers intentions i have come to a theory that we may know or will find out what the last surving Engineers Intentions are. The Engineers created Mankind, one of them may had created the Xeno, and is jelious of his brothers creation and also wants to be the King, and the only God. I think he unleashes the Xeno on the other Engineers and then he may want to then after taking them out, want to then destroy their creation = Mankind. Yep i think that the One Engineer has lost the plot, killed off his brothers in a bid to become the only God. Its either that or they suffered a outbreak of a Organism and Experiment that went wrong. But i think the one Engineer had a lot to do with that.

The feeling I get is that whoever came in the ship saucer and is the subject of those pictograms are long gone before we ever get there. Could very well be that the original aliens were benevolent beings who wanted to nurture their creation to the point where we could join them for a big graduation party once we mastered interstellar travel. Looks like the party is over by the time we arrive. Just ruins and the leftovers from a pretty nasty genocidal war.My bet is that one of their other sentient project species went to the graduation party, met their benefactors and decided they didn't like the idea of a bunch of goodie-two-shoes seeding the universe with intelligent life that could become competition. So they made nice with their creators, played at helping them with their projects and meanwhile learned their peaceful technology and began secretly weaponizing it to use against their creators and their other creations. Then they waged all out war against the creator race and drove them to the brink of extinction. Knowing the "graduation party" locations for the various upstart species, they laid up a nasty surprise in the form of a mechanism by which anyone coming to meet the creators would wake up a sole sentinel. This sentinel's job is two-fold: determine if the upstart species discovered anything interesting technology-wise on their way to graduation and go sterilize their homeworld. That explains why they didn't just wipe out all the nascent civilizations before they ripened - there's always the possibility that said civilization might create something worth stealing. This film is not a literal interpretation of the Prometheus myth. The only real link thematically is that our search for new technologies has negative consequences.

I like Takka's take on this (alliteration unintended - sorry :P) I would imagine the 'temple' and hangar discovered by the Prometheus crew is part of the testing lab (dispersal airfield?) for the bio-weapons which were developed.

I think we would see a direct link with Prometheus Myth or near enough with Weyland... As for the Two races and the SJ/Engineer/Blue Guys being a sub race created by a more superior one who we have yet to see, or may never see. Then yes thats a good potential plot.
