The ship name 'Magellan' has been batted around on this forum (and others) for a long, long time. Apparently originating in an image that was titled 'Magellan mess hall/deck' or something similar. Lots of people have theorised that it was second ship and/or part of the mission in the film. Well...here's your answer: In Spaiht's original script and Lindeloff's notes, the ship Prometheus was originally called the Magellan. Here is the source, simply scroll down the page and click the 'spoiler' box on the 6th post.

That´s intriguing me for a while. Spaith said that Lindeloff "respected" his ideas. But the original script was called "Paradise". Then, we now have "Prometheus". It´s a big tour de force to contort the "Adam and Eve in Paradise" story to conform to "Prometheus" myth. I hope this incoherence don´t shows at the final product.

Man (in our case women) seeks the answer to man's most pressing question; "where do we come from." I believe this movie answers this and then some. I remember someone saying "the act of creation is a brutal and dangerous thing."

@Frantz "we have no indication that the Prometheus movie follow the Prometheus myth story ...its just a general idea ....at a precise question Fassbender did answer that basically the ties are very weak ." Maybe, but to me this makes no sense. It would be like "Alien" had no alien in it...
