It has been stated more than once, in several occasions that the planet in Prometheus is identified as LV-223 and that it is not the planet we see in Alien. Apart from that, saying that two planets are similar because they both have mountains is a bit too vague. In addition, they have different atmospheres: earth like in Prometheus, unbreathable (and defined "primordial") in Alien.
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born. Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.

Not going into all the other reason its isnt, we clearly see when it zooms into the planet on the map thing that one it has only 2 moons(3 in alien) and secondly it's called LV-223.

Alien Warrior is furiously trying to make Prometheus take place on LV-223 in all of his threads. Brother...it just ain't gonna happen! I understand how that is disappointing in some ways, but if you just relax and take it in, I'm pretty sure this movie is going to blow all our minds...regardless of what planet it takes place on.

Well they are listed as not the same, i would assume so. I guess Prometheus 2 would answer it 100%

Let's all pretend it's LV-426, so that I can sleep better at night. :-)

Because nothing gives chronic insomnia than a Lindelof script.

... LV-426 is an undeveloped hostile planetoid with no breathable air, constant winds, and just all around not a nice place... where as the planetoid Prometheus lands is wonderful place where everyone and get infected, scream all they want, and meet really nice "Big Blue People." smiles

Personally i think it is LV-426. The weather could have changed in the 30 years later when alien is set. Maybe the Engineers do something to it. If they can create old acid blood(as many believe) then changing the eco-system is feasible
