Why call it Prometheus II if, by all accounts, the "Prometheus"myth effectively ends in this film by it colliding with the alien Juggernaught. Then what purpose would it serve calling a film anything further with the name Prometheus involved unless there is more mythology to unfold and to pursue that was not given enough screen time on this one............
Not sure.

They haven't named the sequel yet buddy. They won't name it Prometheus II that's for sure
May 19, 2012
Yes but people here talk of Prometheus II like its some sort of foregone conclusion or something.

Maybe, assuming this one will be successful enough to merit a sequel, they'll call it Heracles. Ahem. (sigh)...fail.

Hopefully it wont be called Space Jockeys. It might be named after something like a mythological place or diety. Valhalla? Maybe. Perhaps... Tartarus? Meropis? or Atlantis perhaps.

RS has stated that this will be a two-parter, but with each movie being able to stand on its own. That is why, on this site, there is an appearance that a sequel to Prometheus is a foregone conclusion. Just listening to the MAN.

All we know is that if they make a sequel, it will probably establish what was already laid down in Prometheus. In fact it may deviate so far from the Alien franchise that it will be reasonably denied as a prequel to the franchise, but maybe I'm just exaggerating there.

Some were speculating that the sequel would have a plural name, akin to Alien -> Aliens. I don't know about naming it "Valhalla", though; I know it's another name for Heaven according to the Swedes, but it's more like a realm where warriors fight and feast for all eternity in the Afterlife.
"Meropis" is a new one on me. I just Googled it and clicked the Wikipedia link, caught that it's a parody of Atlantis, and above all else, it's Greek just like the name "Prometheus". It ought to do. But we'll just have to take this one step at a time, even if a Prometheus sequel takes a decade or so. :P

Everyone knows that the sequel will be called F E T U S.
A L I E N F A N is writing it right now.

it makes sense that RS made a clear decision to do a standalone movie that also can be extended IMO..

No, no, I'm certain that a sequel will be made - perhaps is being made or planned to be made now. What I meant by my comment thread was that people think it is a foregone conclusion that the sequel if any will specifically be called "Prometheus II"? And what I am wondering is was there any reason to call it that when by all accounts the Prometheus ship collides with the Juggernaught and other things happen I'm sure as well? So are there going to be stuff that perhaps didn't get used in the first film that may end up in the second? Does the myth idea of Prometheus have anywhere to go in the sequell or should they concentrait on say another myth or something like that?

@ Abordoli - Originally Ridley said this was to be a two parter, but months back stated that he has instead taken the ideas from the two parts and condensed them into Prometheus.
If Prometheus is a critical and commercial success there will no doubt be a sequel, Ridley has stated as much, and has suggested that such a sequel may delve deeper into the story of the SJ's.

Actually I think the Prometheus Myth has not much to do with whats going on in the movie, and looking for parallels rather is misleading from what we will see.
I just read one or two days ago they RS wanted to call the ship (and the movie) "Paradise", then changed the names again, and finally chose "Prometheus".

Imagine if this film was being promoted as Paradise? I'm not sure if I could get my head around that! On the other hand, seeing the Prometheus flying into the atmoshpere of that world and the words Paradise came up with the stark background of space in the distance? Well, who knows it may have worked. I am very happy with the choice of "Prometheus" though, although does the name "Paradise" hint at what may be explored in the sequel?
Call it HyperNova after me!!!!!!!

Just watched:
Ridley Scott and Damon Lindelof Talks PROMETHEUS With AMC
Said that he was Amazed to be working opposite Ridley Scott and would do it again and again and again!
And Ridley Scott says in doing any new projects for the future he said with regards to science fiction he wants to: "go one more step up the avenue."
Hints at a Prometheus trilogy or quadrilogy?
