"Its not like this movie ends with the derelict space craft full of eggs crash landing on LV-426, which is the derelict space craft that the Nostromo happens upon in the beginning of ALIEN. That's inevitability and its not interesting."
Glad that's confirmed!

Yeah, I'm glad they realized this. I'm going to refer back to this post when people say that they're expecting this domino effect that culminates in a xenomorph, facehugger, chestburster or whatever at the end of the movie.
If you want inevitability watch the Matrix sequels and see how interesting that is.

I've always thought they'd connect that dot in another 'prometheus sequel' but never just tie the not with the ending of any of the Prometheus films.... supposedly, whatever's going on in Prometheus is much bigger than Alien... I actually hope they dwarf it by comparison....
May 21, 2012
Yes, I'm glad that's cleared up. I'm most excited that he pretty much validated my(and others) view of questions and mystery being better than answers. I've had converstaions about Inception in which I said damn near word for word exactly what he said. The fact that he confirms that we will be able to walk away, ponder and discuss what WE think and believe about the film is the best news of all imo.

I wouldn't get your hopes up, Nate. I have a feeling Alien and Prometheus will be as related as Blade Runner and Soldier (Blade Runner and Soldier take place in the same universe).
May 21, 2012
Notice how he said that the film would not end with a shot of the derelict landing on LV 426. He did not say anything about the time frame of the universe when the film ends. I wthink the time frame when Shaw is woken up from Hypersleep by the compnay, may be a lot closer to the same date the suloco is landing on LV 426.

Also love the fact that he said the mysteries of Alien will still remain mysteries. So it seems we probably wont know why he had the egg cargo, what infected/impregnated the SJ and what exactly burst out of him. Well, the latter I'm sure most of us assume was the queen so...
May 21, 2012
I think people are forgetting that Scott said that he was interested in knowing more about the specific SJ in the derelict, and that Prometheus was originally supposed to be an Alien prequel that would explain just that. Now, suddenly, that's a bad idea.
May 21, 2012
This is the best news that I have heard. I hated the thought that the whole film was just about getting the SJs in the chair on LV-426. This gives me hope the story is more important than just pleasing fanboys.
If George Lucas had been writing this, the film would no doubt introduce us to a young Ridley meeting a young dallas and the camera panning back as the SJs yells Noooooooooo with xeno emerging from it's chest.

It's not the same ship! there is more than one mystery Scooby Doo crew. Odd that they become aware of the signal 2042, but don't go to LV 223 until 40 years later you would think that they should have checked LV 426 first? But that happens another 40 years after Prometheus. That's a lot of Scooby Snacks.

I loved how the interviewer told him how crappy the end of lost was. You can't just build up intrigue and not have it go anywhere. I hope there is at least a tiny amount of closure at the end of this movie. not sure how much i like "to be continued"

He did say the movie will be more about Weyland and the Organisms..
So i guess the Engineer and Derelict are not the main focus here...
I guess it would be what would Weyland want and do with the Engineers tech, and the events that lead to Shaw giving Birth via C-Section to a new (or maybe not) creature and what changes happens to that creature and then maybe some hints and clues as to what potentially could arise from such a creature.
Oh another note is he made refences to mankind and hints that it is mankinds messing about with stuff they should not had been doing that causes their down fall.
So i guess they royally pee the Engineer off...

Well he made a few references that worried me....
He can live with the fact, if this movie bombs at least he can say he had a role in Ridleys first Sci Fi after 33 years... he also joked Cowboys vs Aliens being a bit naff was down to him....
Also i get the impression that he managed to persaude Ridley to make a number of changes and basically dictated to Ridley how the movie should go....
He looked not very comfortable with some questions over the Alien Lifeforms in this movie....
He aknowledged that he is a fan of having movies that dont answer questions but leave unanswered ones and Mystrey.
So i expect a lot of the stuff that made no sence or gave answers from his kind of work on Lost to apear in this movie...
All he has said is we will not see Eggs, Xenos, Face Huggers, etc and the event of what happened to the Derelict on LV426.....
But we will have more clues that we can use ourselves to answer those questions....
I dont know whats going to become of this movie, it could be great or $h!t!
I doubt the latter but i think its not going to please some, and not because it wont explain the Xeno etc, but because i think its going to be a complete twist...
Like him making Predator 3 and we find out the Predator is a Suit and that there is a little blue smurf inside it like the Aliens in Independance day.
we just dont know whats going on, well one person who claimed to had seen it, who i cant get any more replies from... said some scenes will give us clues but only that some may interpret as clues to answers.
The movie ends open and a lot of events are not answered and he means a fair share and we will have more questions than even Alien left, and in regards to not only Alien but Prometheus aswell.....
I dont know what he meant, but i would not be suprised if the following..
We wont be able to rule out, if the Derelict is done for and cant take off again.
We wont know or see who is flying the Saucer at the Water Fall scene.
We wont know why the Murals are there or their purpose...
We wont know what the Engineers was running from, why the sarcophagus had holes in, why only one is left and the dead boddies...
We may not find out what happens to the Engineer (so we could be left thinking, oh wonder if he survived... wonder if he does manage after this movie to get to the Derelict.
I think there would be so much stuff like above that we will have no answers for... only we would be expected to speculate upon them....
And assume..... like we have done with the Derelict, Xeno creation and Jockeys a long time before this movie..

ok chillax I will tell ya what he won't...lol...
Vickers is going to find out from David8 who went all impulsive and lost his head...lol...and read everyone's dreams and minds and he told Shaw and Holloway that Vickers is a PLant/Spy there for Ms. Yutanni and to acquire a sample if possible the species/creature for their own BIo-Weapons program and she is pissed {Yutani that is} from the law suit her company LOST in the Prometheus Timeline's very recent past. She {Vickers} gets close but SHAW murders her to stop her from doing it ! Thus becoming the last known survivor of The Prometheus!
She arrives home Shaw does and her message is for the world to head her warning, we were created not by any Jesus Or Moses but rather Aliens, and warns Mankind that they are out to destroy us now!!!

I think the whole purpose is like with Lost, that we all speculate and assume and make our own judgements on the clues, we would all maybe have different views on what they could be and there would be no way to prove one or the other...
One example....
I dont think the Mural, the Ghost Jockeys and Hollogram scenes will be explained, we would see them. But i dont think that David will figure out much from them... which means we wont.
All that would be known to a degree is... that something went bad for the Engineers and maybe related to some of the experiements and creations they may have made.....
If we link that to the Mural, then we could make the assumption that i wonder if the Xeno was the cause of all that trouble..... but that could be wrong and we just wont know.
Just as after Alien, we would not know if the Eggs was on the Ship before it landed and Cargo... or if something had layed them... Ridley cleared it up a little after Aliens.
But with this movie again it will have simular questions that may be answered with Prometheus 2.

Wow, this chucklehead interviewer also didn't understand the ending of Lost. I'm starting to think an awful lot of people who hate on the show so bad are people who only tuned in for the ending and thought "oh, so they were dead during the entire series and it was all a shared fantasy" (which isn't correct).
However, I believe Lindelof when he says the movie DOESN'T end with the derelict crashing on LV-426 or any of that jazz. And I'm fine with that.
May 21, 2012
I think Lindeloff is throwing a curve ball here. In the big interview with him and RS a couple months ago, he was asked directly how the film tied into Alien. While he danced around the question somewhat, he did say "after all, SOMETHING had to lay all those eggs on the derelict"...
Sometimes, I think all the snippets of information we are given can be just as insignificant as they are spoilers.
