I just found this on Wikipedia:

The premiere of Prometheus is scheduled to take place on May 31, 2012, in London, England. The film will be released on June 1, 2012, in the United Kingdom, and June 8, 2012, in North America. It will be simultaneously released in IMAX theaters, and in 3D, and it is encoded for D-Box motion seats that provide physical feedback to the viewer during the film. In the United Kingdom, 18,827 tickets were pre-sold for the London IMAX, the largest IMAX screen in the country, breaking the theater records for the highest grossing week of pre-sales with £293,312 ($474,687), and the highest grossing first day of pre-sales with £137,000 ($221,717), exceeding the performance of other high-profile IMAX releases including The Dark Knight and Avatar.

Although this is all taking place in the UK, I'd say some progress is being made. Do pre-sales count toward a movie's total gross? I don't know; I'm just curious. To be honest, I have a feeling The Dark Knight Rises is going to gross more than Prometheus....however, we all know there's a difference between a movie's box office success and its enjoyability. I'm not saying TDKR is going to be terrible....but then again, Prometheus will be thee movie of the summer for me. I'll wait for TDKR to come out on DVD for all I care.

This doesn't surprise me against either of these films. Avatar was a complete unknown until people saw it in theaters and the word of mouth took over. TDKR will be huge, but it's also a relatively new franchise. There are not decades of pent-up demand. And those films are MADE to be PG-13 (in the US), so Prometheus with it's VERY DISTURBING CONTENT is never going to have as broad an appeal in the long run (unless TDKR sux, which is somewhat unlikely). I will be utterly *stunned* if Prometheus surpasses Avatar in gross receipts at the box-office. But, I expect it to do very very well, and hopefully prove to FOX that there ARE films that can appeal to young males ~ 40- and 50-somethings too. It is possible to make them, and the older folks have more disposable income. Helllloooo!!! This is an underserved market.

PS: If John Carter OF MARS had been made as an adult-targeted (R-rated) film featuring the bare flesh of the original pulp and for a sensible number of millions, it would have done much better too. Disney just doesn't have it in their DNA to make that kind of picture.

I've been becoming less and less excited for The Dark Knight Rises, the only thing The Dark Knight had going for it was Heath Ledger, and in his place we will have quite one dimensional villain who will be significantly less scary than intended due to the rating and the fact his speech will be giggled at by teenagers all over the world. When Prometheus came along it blew everything else out of the water, and I honestly think the main reason people won't see it will be that it "looks too scary" Prometheus will break records with it's home releases.

Judging from the teaser, Skyfall will be the one to provide me with my dour hero needs. The last TDKR trailer made it look like the most boring superhero film ever made.

I think the new TDKR trailer was trying to play on the emotion of the scenario the story will focus on rather than give a smack of visuals. Lets not forget Nolan is being very careful not to unveil too much as that is his style. As for the pre-box office sales for prometheus, it signifies that the film is really highly anticpiated and rightly so. Im glad the film will get the financial intake it deserves, as this means a bonus for RS and is almost like a thankyou for not having the film become an edited pg-13 (12A)

Its ambitious IMO to think Prometheus will beat TDKR in boxoffice sales mainly due to a huge Batman following as well as the PG-13 rating But i don't care... I just want Ridley Scott to deliver an epic journey to the screen on par with his high standards. I just want a great movie. thats all :D

Thing is, I didn't feel any of that emotion. I wasn't looking for visual pizazz, just some compelling acting, dialog, or story hints. I didn't get any of that. The previous trailer was much better, imo. We'll see. But after the Avengers, SPOILER there is no excuse not to embrace superheroes in 'full color.' Fucking Thanos, people. I want to see Clayface, Killer Croc, Freeze, and Man-Bat in the next round of Batman films.

I've always felt Nolan's trailers 'lacked' something whether to hide the plot or decieve us in how we think the film will pan out. But i agree that the new trailer was just missing something. Maybe the music was just (although pretty okay) just didnt have the kick that it could of to emphasise the 'epic conclusion'.

@Engineer=Chris---I don't know...I think it's just gonna be a freakin' boring movie. The early reports are suggestive that this is the case. The postproduction has been overdone and overdone to try and make the movie just "passable"....I don't have any expectations for it, and think it will be the worst of the 3 by far..

Batman will be good. But, I wonder what new exciting ground can be covered. Batman rises could be a reference to him "rising from the dead.". I think the movie will play largely on the emotional batman is dead angle. Prometheus and Batman are two different movies. Both will be enjoyable, but I haven't seen a good sic-fi in a long time. I saw the last Batman, so the next one isn't anything new and I don't anticipate it like Prometheus. Sure, you will have rabid batman fans. By the way, doesn't the engineers outfits look like a batman suit?
